This is a review of the food only…read more The main floor of the ornate inn is largely used as the dining area for their restaurant. Where you can enjoy a 3-course meal ($62.50). Or add an extra $2.50 to receive a small salad course between the main and dessert. For those want a smaller dinner, dishes are also available a la carte (prices reflected in this post). Their tomato bruschetta ($14) uses a decadent whipped ricotta as the base, building upon the classic ingredients of cherry tomatoes, herbs, and a balsamic reduction. With tons of flavours and not as messy to eat, this was a wonderful starting bite. Arriving as a big chunk, the maple smoked salmon ($14) could benefit from a bit of preparation to present it in a crostini form. The candy sweet salmon was powerful on its own but balances out with the maple yogurt sauce and baguette. A bit of pickled red onion and/or arugula would add some freshness the dish needs. Save some of that bread for the steamed mussels ($14), classically prepared in a white wine and garlic broth. I rather enjoyed the bell pepper used throughout for colour and added flavour. The mussels just needed to be soaked longer as they were still several gritty crustaceans. You can't go wrong with seafood in Nova Scotia. The pan seared halibut ($37) was perfectly cooked to a flaky and moist consistency. The thick meaty piece could use more seasoning but if you get enough of the 'hodge podge', a medley of vegetables cooked in a cream sauce, onto the fish it helps to add flavour. The scallops in the scallops picatta ($37) were beautifully seared and just cooked through. The natural sweetness of the seafood was also prominent since the lemon caper sauce used with the pappardelle wasn't too strong. With a touch more salt, this dish would have been perfect. While the lobster linguine ($44; $7 supplement with the prix fixe) smelled good, the dish was majorly lacking on taste. The spaghetti was overcooked, and everything screamed for more seasoning, butter, and acid. My nose was more impressed than the tongue. This is a long review, for the rest go to Gastro World.

The staff at the Inn were very welcoming, and helpful in providing recommendations regarding places to go in the area. And the breakfast hit the spot. Dinner was amaaaaaaziiiiiing. I wasn't overly hungry so I only had an entree, but OMG so good, as were my husband's dishes. We had attentive and friendly service too. Everything was perfect! My grandchildren are Vegan, and Paul, the owner, went out of his way to make the most wonderful vegan breakfasts we have ever had! He was so caring and thoughtful. The rooms were very nicely appointed and very comfortable. we would highly recommend the Maple Inn! We look forward to returning there next summer.

This is an old hotel with some squeaky floors and sticky doors - but it continues to be well maintained. The flowers and grounds are beautiful. Most noticeable for this establishment are the luxuries: thick bath towels, real glass drinking glasses and wine glassess, corkscrew and fridge. Very nice! The grounds with the pool, tennis court, basketball net and lots of comfortable Adirondack chairs makes it a great place for families and groups to hang out together.

Checking in and out was quick and easy, even though they do not have a computerized system. The staff was friendly and informative. The cottages come equipped with a kitchen (with plates, cutlery, oven, fridge etc), full bath and a nice sized living room (living room size depends on which cottage you booked). A great place to stay for people traveling solo, couples, and families.

In addition, the breakfast that was included was a prepared breakfast with choices that included oatmeal, french toast, pancakes, eggs prepared anyway, and toast with homemade jam ect. There was always hot coffee in the office. And there was a walking path behind the motel that led to a small glacial lake where you could canoe and swim, paddles and life jackets included for free. There was also a fire pit out front and a giant chess board.The owners were also very friendly and along with the unexpected added touches, it was clear they loved what they do and are great at it. We regret only booking for one night. We will definitely be back. This was the best run motel I have ever been at. If you find yourself in the area, I would definitely recommend this place.

Accommodating our need for use of their freezer to hold frozen food we needed for the trip. Very dog friendly, not surprising when you meet their own dogs: one very large the other tiny, yet very amicable together. We stayed at the carriage house suite ("the Annapolis" ) which was very convenient and comfortable: one bedroom and a large adjacent sitting area. Immaculate and nicely decorated. The bed was very comfortable, not what you usually get on the road: "Bed" - checked!! As for the "Breakfast" portion of the Inn - way more exquisite than ordinary B&B would be: Each day started with a unique 3 course breakfast, and the most accurate description is quoted from their website: "The first two courses often include one of the following: Yogurt Parfait, with homemade granola, Nova Scotia local berries and vanilla yogurt. Homemade muffins or scones, made with Nova Scotia local berries and served warm. Fresh fruit platter (in season) The final course, often referred to as "Oh, my gosh, more food!" often includes one of the following: Nova Scotia Apple Delight - light and fluffy eggs combined with local apples, baked to perfection and lightly sprinkled with sugar and served with Nova Scotia maple syrup and blueberry sauce. Not Your Average Scrambled Eggs - farm fresh free range eggs scrambled with Gruyere cheese and fresh chives, local sausage or bacon with Rod's famous homemade Nova Scotia brown bread. OMG - homemade Belgian Waffles or buttermilk pancakes topped with local berries served with Nova Scotia maple syrup, and local sausages." We can attest to the veracity of all statement, and their delicious taste - baked/cooked/fried to perfection by Chef Rod, graciously served by a very friendly Lynn. To top it all up - although we had our own plans for touring the Annapolis Vally, we consulted with Rod and Lynn, and got an excellent response - meaning not only did they have a suggestion, but they "happened" to also have a local map to serve us while exploring this gorgeous region. Amherst, NS is weird to me. The only town in NS that doesn't have seafood. But it's where I picked…read moreto spend the night, and after a wrong turn (basically one exit off) I found the Travelodge. What a relief to stay in a nice name-brand hotel. Layout was a little interesting - my room was up the stairs and then down a couple of stairs. Sort of like they took an old motel and added newer hotel onto it. My room was nice and quiet and dark once I shooed the kids out of the hallway and I had a good sleep out of it. The in-hotel restaurant offered a very nice breakfast before I left. Friendly front staff, just had to direct me not to park in the one space I parked in! My bad. (They were renovating some of the first-floor outer door rooms, except for that one. Second floor was all inside rooms.) All in all, made the right choice to stay here. (:
