I've been going to this location for many years, and the service used to be excellent. However, since mid-2023, it has significantly declined--from the nurses to the nurse practitioners to the doctors. They now recommend too many unnecessary tests and biopsies that cost thousands of dollars and go straight to the deductible. This has left me feeling frustrated, untrusting, and disappointed. I no longer have a reliable OB-GYN I can turn to, someone who knows my history and offers thoughtful care before jumping to procedures. Being in my mid-60s, I know I need good care, but sadly, I won't find it at this practice. To make matters worse, most women's health practices in Tidewater have merged into one physician group. Their approach seems clear: more tests, more procedures, and less personalized care. Trust your gut feeling - take care and be aware of what I shared. read more

Be sure to familiarize yourself with current pap screening standards. It is no longer annual for most patients. They don't care to tailor the procedures for each patient and don't ask enough questions about what your needs are for the visit. No private area with no door is where they ask " how many sexual partners do you have". Unreal. I should have got up and demanded a room with a door for this intake. Who designed this office? Providers aren't horrible but the staff is under educated and cannot discuss basic questions without help. Do not recommend. read more

HORRIBLE office. Every time I have come here despite having different doctors each time I have waited in the waiting room at least 20 mins past my appt time and then waited a minimum of 1 hour in the room to see the doctor every single time. Not to mention I have been here during my pregnancy so I am severely uncomfortable and the rooms that they put you in are always on the warmer side. I will not be coming back here for my next pregnancy or checkups. Every time I had an appointment here I am hot, exhausted, thirsty and irritated because of the experience here. read more

CVD19 Review: It has been a struggle since patients have to come in alone. This policy is why they only have 4 stars. Their are some problems that need support and considering this is an OBGYN office I would expect them to understand this. The incident I am referring to is when a women came in and with her husband. They ushered her back and he tried to explain why he needed to go with her but was rudely brushed off "as their policy." Well his wife didn't speak good English and the eventually relented. I walked back when called and she was sobbing. In times like these we need our significant other with us during times of pain or sadness. They quote this as the safety for patients and staff. I do not think that is accurate. Moral support during pregnancy is crucial. Counseling staff absolutely amazing! I couldn't give her enough five star reviews. She has bee. I think I'm done. My first visit, in times of Covid, front desk staff was super rude. Curt, unsmiling, barely answering questions. Hey, I don't want to be here either, but maybe be nice? I gave my thorough, and I mean thorough, medical history sitting in a hallway, with other staff members walking by. There were open exam rooms, so I don't understand that. It felt very uncomfortable. Afterward, I logged into the patient portal to find test results. I had a question, so I responded back. The response I got was essentially, "AS STATED..." Wow. Just stellar patient care, thanks. I had to move my second appointment. When I called to reschedule, the coordinator told me they don't do any appointments later than 345 (during my work hours). When we reached an impasse, she basically hung up on me. Again, thanks. I finally rescheduled my second appointment. When I called, I said I need to see X for X. The coordinator said oh, I think you'll need a general office visit first. So I scheduled that, got 600 reminders, confirmed 200 times, and booked a sitter. One hour before my sitter was to show up, they call to say I actually need the kind of appointment I TRIED TO BOOK, and can I come in two weeks later on a weekday morning? This is for a pressing health need. Their error. The nurse was nice, but I cannot believe the attitude and incompetence. Time to find a new office read more

I left this office in tears from frustration and will not be back. Finding a good female physician is tough enough and this place was a terrible experience. No one in the building knows where the office is. I had a 10:15am appointment and showed up 10 minutes early and spent 20 minutes trying to find the office. Other employees were no help, and when I called the office number no one answered, it's all electronic and then you're put on hold. I finally find the office and fill out my information. I'm the only one in the waiting room, only to be told the physician won't see me. I've been trying to get an appointment with a female physician for over a year at this point. Wasted gas getting there to be turned away. I don't recommend this experience to anybody. So incredibly rude and unnecessary. read more

The doctors are great at the facility but I can't say the same for the rest of the staff. A single appointment should not take two hours to perform. Many of the nurses are inattentive, don't have a good attitude, and I don't know if they treat you according to what insurance you have, but I feel the two facilities have not been very helpful this past pregnancy. I'm no longer a patient here because I moved back to Florida but I am writing the review now because I've gained a greater appreciation for the doctors who at this practice since visiting doctors here in Orlando. Dr. Morgan is absolutely wonderful! He's full of personality, knowledgeable, patient and funny to boot. He makes you feel comfortable and passes not judgement. The other doctors in the practice are also very nice and professional. I had both my daughter and son delivered by doctors at this practice and would recommend them to anyone. The staff is friendly and helpful. I recently called to have my records transferred to the doctor's here in Florida and Lenis was very helpful and very kind. I definitely recommend them if your need a great team of doctors, nurses and office staff! read more

I cannot speak for all of the physicians and assistants, the personality of mine were wonderful, but the overall care was lacking. I tried to come in with an emergency and was told I had to wait 7 days, even though the website said same day appts, and still does, I also had to wait 7 days for a follow up. I went two times total, same diagnosis even though negative tests both times, took medication for each. Finally, given a prescription at a compounding pharmacy, I was told they took insurance and they did not. I got the medication anyway and started taking it, realized it has an ingredient I am allergic too. The compounding pharmacy would have easily put the medication in a different capsule, but weren't told to. I feel I made it very clear about my allergy and it should have been flagged. I need an office/doctor that is on my side and helping to look out for me, not one I have to go behind and check or that makes things worse. read more

Most of the nursing staff is amazing, so this does not apply to them necessarily. My last appointment was apparently supposed to be my gestational diabetes screening, I was completely unaware of that fact due to missing the appointment beforehand due to sickness in my household. When I called to reschedule said appointment a week before it was originally supposed to be, I wasn't informed that it was going to be my gestational diabetes test appointment. Apparently I spoke to a newer nurse who wasn't aware that she had to inform me of that, and I totally get that, but when I walked in to said appointment I was treated as if I was stupid for not knowing that it was supposed to be my GD test day. My mother in law accompanied me to said appointment, and while I was doing my pre-appointment weigh in and information with one of the nurses, she heard two other nurses speaking very badly of me, like calling me stupid and careless for bringing in a Starbucks drink on the day my GD test was supposed to be done on. Dr Morgan was also not very understanding either, even though he was the one who looked up the information regarding when I called to re-schedule the appointment, who I talked to (the newer nurse at the front desk), and the fact that I was not informed that it was supposed to be my GD test day. He was also incredibly condescending about me gaining 25-30 pounds over a 2 month time frame (I'm 29 weeks pregnant by the way), even though I had lost 20 pounds during the first 4 months of my pregnancy due to extremely violent and consistent morning sickness. Considering that information, I've only gained 10 pounds throughout my entire pregnancy. He kept repeating that it was "insanely unhealthy" and assumed I am just stuffing my face with junk food 24/7. read more

OK, so as time has gone on, I have been forced to re-evaluate my experience here at Tidewater Physicians for Women over and over again. It's inconsistent, mostly. I started coming here in October 2016 because we found out were pregnant with our third child and I had not yet established OBGYN care in the area. We are a Military family, but I had heard Norfolk Naval's OB care was not great, so we decided to switch to Tricare Standard and pay the additional cost so that we could choose our own provider and delivery hospital. We chose Sentara Leigh and got a list of OB providers that deliver there... it was very limited. We chose TPW based on reviews and I was assigned to Dr Kelsey Arborgast. The biggest issues were not because of my Doctor, but due to the way the office handles scheduling. During my 8 months seeing them for my pregnancy, I had my appointments cancelled 7 times. To an extent, working with a doctor that handles delivery of babies, it's expected that something will come up from time to time. Twice, they were canceled and rescheduled without notifying me and when I arrived at the office for my originally scheduled time, I was told I had the date wrong. I have screen shots of the original appointment confirmations from my email, so there was no confusion on my part. I did end up speaking with an office manager and it got better after that, but it doesn't eliminate the frustrations I experienced. Overall, my Doctor was great and the nursing staff is awesome, though the front office staff's organization is lacking. We have a healthy baby girl and TPW helped us along to get her here - we are grateful. I had a scheduled c-section at Sentara Leigh and it went incredibly well, recovery has been smooth (baby is 3 weeks old now). read more

As someone who had an absolutely terrible experience at my last doctor, this place has been amazing thus far. I usually do a lot of research and even read some of the negative comments on here but decided to take a chance with this doctor. This was the best experience. My first visit I had to get done some tests and my doctor (Paige Shabro) came in and talked with me for about 20 minutes trying to get to know me and all of my medical history. She was kind and supportive and explained everything that was going to happen. I am so glad I chose this doctor! Oh, and they DO accept tricare select! Which was a HUGE plus! read more

Definitely a disappointment. Have been going to them for over 20 years because they had great doctors. My doctors have all left and was seeing someone that I had no emotional connection. One time in 20 years that I'm late, and they wouldn't see me. I even called to tell them there was an accident. They had no one scheduled after me but they just said this is their procedure. Wow, how many times I have sat in the room waiting for the doctor who was over 15 minutes late and never said anything. If the nurse can't even take the time to talk to me, I will find another place that is considerate of their customers. read more

Really appreciate the service they give, the referrals for specialists are done in a timely manner as well and I never feel like I'm waisting my time. Doctors are all great and are always available if I ever have any questions. I am originally from Colorado so finding them when I was already scared and alone really helped me transition. He is professional, genuinely cares about his patients, and loves what he does - the best kind of doctor! His nurses are also very personable and make you feel welcomed. Personally, I have always been thrilled with services received at TPW... My gyn, Charles Wilkes, is very thorough, prompt, and listens well to concerns and issues. By far, he has the best bedside manner of any gyn I've ever been to. Staff is helpful and involved in your visit, and concerned with meeting a patient's needs. Since I am from Connecticut and going to school here in Virginia, I am not really sure which doctors office is a good place to go down here. However, I knew I needed to see one so I looked up various places. I came across this one and it did not have many reviews but I went ahead and booked an appointment anyway. Once I arrived there, the lady at the desk had me fill out papers and sign some documents. She was very friendly and made me feel very comfortable. After this, I only sat down for less than a minute and was called in to see a nurse. This was the fastest I have ever been seen at any doctors office. Once in there the lady sat me down and went through a variety of questions. After questions I was then put in a room where the doctor came to meet me to ask what's going on and how can she help. Immediately, she was very cheerful, had a burst of energy, and really made me feel comfortable. Her name is Dr. Salamon. She is great and I can tell she truly cares about her patients. I definitely would recommend this place to others, I was very satisfied with my first appointment here and will be going back for future appointments. read more

TPW was amazing during my pregnancy. Everyone from the front desk staff to the ultrasound techs to the nurses and doctors put me at ease. We struggled to get pregnant and my anxiety was extremely high throughout my entire pregnancy. The clinicians at TPW were compassionate and didn't make me feel embarrassed about my anxiety and fear. Gretchen Jones is amazing! She has been very caring and cautious throughout my pregnancy. The staff is great and always very friendly. Both of the ladies that performed my ultrasounds were awesome and made sure they didn't miss anything-found 2 concerns on my ultrasound and let my doctor know right away. I chose this practice based on the positive reviews I read. My 18 year old daughter needed to see a gynecologist & by her not knowing how to find a good one, that's where my help came in. I was relieved (and so was she) to get a female doctor because I knew she would be more at ease with a female. Gretchen (sorry I can't remember her last name) was AWESOME!!! She was VERY patient, reassuring & calming with my daughter (my daughter was already nervous by this being her first exam). Gretchen & the entire staff were great!!! Another huge plus was that from the time we first entered the office until we left, we weren't kept waiting long. Dr Bertolino is a fantastic doctor. Provided the best care a woman could ask for, start to finish of my wife's pregnancy. She performed the C Section, everything went well. Only issue is Dr Gretchen Jones. Prescribed a controversial medication to my wife, after a negative culture for UTI, just to "get her started on something" adding the quantifier, "that's safe for breastfeeding". My 7 day old daughter was put at risk for anemia by this doctor, prescribing a controversial medication without discussing any of the risks with my wife when she prescribed this medication. read more
