Bernie's is the hidden gem of daycares in Richfield/S Mpls. We've been taking our daughter here…read moresince she was an infant and have never been disappointed. Don't even bother shopping around, the cost is more competitive than anything comparable and you don't have to sacrifice activities, personal care or safety. We love the staff and the extra effort they make to create a meaningful relationship with our child. Ever since upgrading their platform to the Brightwheel app; we get photos, videos, calendar of events, messages and payment options right in our phone. They do tie-dye, reptile visits, outdoor adventures, book fairs, special holiday programs and more! Unlike big centers, Bernie is caring and flexible with parents on individual situations. Can't say enough great things about this place!

If I could give 0 stars, I would. The staff is unknowledgeble with what the rules are of the school - we were told we could cloth diaper, but when we complained about his bottom not being completely wiped clean after a #2 diaper, causing diaper rash, we were told we shouldn't have ever been allowed to bring cloth. The infant staff is lazy and neglectful. On multiple occasions, I picked up my son only to find him crying and sitting in a bumbo, covered in his own puke. Staff was sitting around doing nothing. He was always confined to a seat, saucer, or infant bouncer - so much so that the skin on his left love handle was rubbed raw. When he had a cold, I had to soak him in a warm bath every day when we got home to get all the dried snot from off his face, arms, and hair because they never kept his nose clean during the day, despite me providing boogie wipes. Communication is nil. My son needed medication and we were told we had the correct form on file for them to administer his doses, but we didn't. Instead of calling me to get it taken care of, they just didn't give him the meds! It seems nice and rosey when you take the tour, but please please PLEASE keep your infant out of Bernie's!!

The staff cares so much about the kids, they do so many fun activities like weekly music lessons, fitness boomers, seasonal concerts, and field trips, and they learn so much. The staff became like family to us and we were so sad to leave. Ms. Theresa is an incredible Director! Always great at communicating with families, very organized and easy to talk to. All of the teachers are so sweet and friendly, and loved our kids so much. Rainbow does an amazing job of creating an engaging and fun curriculum for the kids. Each week has a theme of what the kids are learning about, and the staff does a great job of teaching about the topics at hand. My kids were always bringing home amazing art projects and even teaching me a thing or two. Rainbow also has an amazing music program. They put on two adorable concerts per year, and we absolutely loved them! The summer program is a blast with field trips and lots of special events and guests that visit the kids. Our daughter went into Kindergarten extremely prepared in her writing and reading skills, and I give all of the credit to Rainbow. Overall, just an incredible school that has made a huge impact on our family. Thank you for everything!

(e.g., "We really need you to discuss the importance of naps with your child.") Ed, the head of the place, has caused high staff turnover and is unreasonable. He also subjected our kid to pseudo-interrogations. This is the place where the Valley of the Dolls Stepford children go to not learn anything. No thanks. It's less work to watch your child at home than to deal with these folks.

When I was pregnant a year and a half ago, we toured all the Montessori schools near our home and work. We decided to enroll our son in the fall of 2015, once he was over his stranger danger/sensitive period. We hired a wonderful nanny in the meantime. She and her husband planned the birth of their own firstborn around our son's 2015 fall enrollment. Mayflower was our top pick and their toddler teacher came highly recommended by an old friend, another Montessori teacher and Children's House owner in the community. We signed up when our son was a newborn, 14 months ago, and waited. We were excited for visiting day this past month, but shocked to learn we were not actually enrolled. I'm a first time mom, but based on my own research and tours of other toddler programs, this was highly irregular, so I reached out for confirmation. The response from their director Nanci was very canned and left me stunned, "Thanks for coming to Visiting Day. Our application process is continuing and we will be making final decisions for enrollment in the next few weeks. There are many factors we take into account to make our decisions and we balance the classrooms by age and gender. You will hear from us by Friday, March 27. Thanks, Nanci Olesen Director Mayflower Early Childhood Center" Rumor has it there were only 4-7 openings for fall 2015. The visiting day we attended last week was an absolute carnival with 40 families and toddlers! I feel the number of attendees was very misleading for so few openings. I hope that this was an isolated incident. We may have fallen through the cracks since we signed up on recommendation from a Montessori teacher before the toddler program even began at Mayflower. We are still really disappointed and terribly inconvenienced by our experience. We are now scrambling to find an acceptable daycare for our happy, healthy 15 month-old boy. Every place has a year wait. Any insights or advice are most welcome! Our amazing nanny will be on maternity leave and we are really stuck!
