One thing that most places that I go to lack in is properly trained or polite staff, in this place staff would say to enjoy your meal, we had a guy come to check on us several occasions. Food was a 5/5 I couldn't fault these guys, our only issue was that we ordered desserts to go and was given the wrong ones, if it wasn't for that they would have got a 5/5 rating.

I would definitely recommend it, but it was a big eat. The chips were also very nice, crisp on the outside fluffy on the inside and tasty throughout. Also as I always say in Wetherspoons reviews, get the onions rings they never let you down. In general the place was busy but not mobbed and we got pleasant efficient service which couldn't be faulted. Cheap drinks and cheap food which punches above its weight in terms of flavour. If you fancy something simlpe or something a wee bit cheaper that the other places within x-scape this is a great alternative to TGI etc.

It wasn't until I read the reviews on Yelp that I realised what I'd been missing, so we booked a table and made a special trip down there for lunch today. First impressions - we were the only people there and the chef came out of the kitchen to meet us, which didn't bode well I thought. The decor is unassuming and definitely a 'work in progress', but it is clear that they have already put a great deal of effort into getting the place functioning. The bar is near the entrance and there's a line of tables along the window wall, with a larger central area that looks like it could double as a dance floor, and finally there's a stage area at the far end. It all looks delightfully 'hand-knitted' and I loved it immediately. Once the owner returned from upstairs and realised that we were his booking, things picked up. In short order some music was played, menus appeared, and soon we were tucking in to the first of our tapas. As neither of us are carnivores, we picked fishy choices, olives, tortilla, and some papas arrugadas. The boquerones (anchovies) and olives were the first to arrive, and we both wolfed them down like the ravenous dogs we were. Delicious. Then came the tortilla and papas arrugadas. The tortilla is definitely something special, and I wished I'd ordered two portions, it was so tasty. The papas arrugadas turned out to be baby new potatoes with a separate dish of pepper sauce and another of coriander sauce. A fantastic combination of tastes, and the pepper sauce was just right - not too hot at all. Finally, the boquerones frito (whitebait) and the calamares a la romana appeared. The menu jokingly describes the whitebait as 'fishchips', but actually that's a great description of them. They're crispy and full of flavour - yum! I'm not generally a great fan of tapas as a primary meal choice, as I always feel that they're more of an appetizer option whilst sitting at the bar with a drink; but I might be won over by this place. The portions aren't huge, but with the 3 for £9 special offer, it's pretty good value. I will definitely return when the place is a bit more lively and they have some entertainment on. They may not be in a prime location, but it's definitely worth making the pilgrimage to this place. But let's not tell everyone about it - we don't want it to become too popular. Let's just keep it between ourselves, OK?

What can I say bar the fact that this was a real fun night , great staff , food and music . Linda Jaxson is a real character and was on stage with a new band . She entertained us the whole evening and the crowd really appreciated it . Staff were not flustered by the influx of clients and managed to keep everyone fed and watered throughout the night . There is a good entertainment programme here including salsa and tango classes so get your glad rags on and come down and dance.

Cons: Very limited selection of beer on tap: tennents or heinneken were about the best on offer. The gents loo was pretty big - but now looking quite tired and in need of a refurb. The person serving was of the disinterested, don't care, don't want to be there variety. Not exactly friendly, but not particularly nasty either. Broadly speaking, it's not somewhere I'd frequent very often, but I'd be cool with going to another function here.

I did not read the Menu but saw a few dishes coming out of the Kitchen that looked very nice. My Friends and I decided that we would make a visit here a regular occurance and next time we would have food. There is no shortage of restaurants in this area looking for business, but this place should not be overlooked! It's actually become one of my favourites when I'm in this neck of the woods. Dinky, intimate and cosy, it keeps its decor simple but elegant, with wine coloured walls and deep, rich colours for the furniture. There are some local artists displayed on the walls, much like it was in its JJ days - representing local people trying to earn a buck through their paintings. The staff in here are so friendly, I feel like I've got to know them. Funny, open and up for a banter, but also really caring and attentive when taking your order! I love the chat when I'm in here, even if I'm just stopping by for a cuppa. The food though, which most of you are wanting to find out about....is absolutely delicious. For a small-ish cafe they know how to serve up a classy platter. I've had delicious pate, salads and amazing chorizo pasta in here. My friend got a burger and said it was incredible. Food is homemade and prepared to perfection. For a petite and new(ish) business it punches way above its weight and the food here is absolutely glorious. I'm always surprised it's fairly quiet when I'm in there, which is obviously to my advantage because it's serene and scran is served up promptly, but it's one of the best places for dinner in the area and should begin to get more of the acclaim and merit it deserves. Bar Varia is a German/ski-lodge themed pub up in Soar at Intu Braehead. They have a range of tables, so whether you're just with one friend or you've got a bigger group together, they have plenty of space for you. It's just generally quite a big bar and, possibly because it's at Braehead, I don't think I've ever seen it totally packed. Perhaps that changes when they have events on, and they certainly do cater for parties. The food is what you'd expect from a German Bier Halle: Sausages. Also pretzles. The portion sizes are pretty hearty and, to be fair, they do have a few other options on the menu, but where would the fun be in that? The WiFi is free, the staff are friendly and won't smirk at you if you order a coffee (I hate that, but here they seem to take some pride in it). The theme perfectly compliments the location. It feels like being in a cross between a Wetherspoons and a Beefeater, a bit wipe-clean and soulless but efficient, practical and comfortable. A plethora of menus of up to A3 size are on every table, you choose your food and then you pay for it whilst quoting your table number. It's pretty much your standard steakhouse/grill kind of menu, but I went for the 20oz Megasaurus steak - real dinosaur don't ya know - that comes with chips, peas and onion rings. It was a bit of a wait at the till to get served, but luckily she was paying and I relaxed, slumped on my chair like a giant slug awaiting an enormous lettuce leaf! 20oz, ah yes, I was drooling. It came, it was huge, but I conquered all. The peas were tiny (tres petits-pois?) and the onion rings were not bad at all. The chips were as good as any that aren't double, triple or quadruple-fried, crisp on the outside, soft on the in, and of a nice chipping potato. Surprisingly the steak was cooked exactly to order. Medium-rare, juicy and frankly as tender as I could possibly expect for the money. The only slight downside for me was the taint of liver-like taste in the meat. It was only marginal and not enough to put me off my lunch, but it was there. There can be many reasons for this so I won't bang on about it, but for me I would still give it 4 stars as a great value meal.
