Looking back at our son's experience at CHMS, it is hard to put into words how much this community…read moremeans to our family! We moved back to the area from overseas when our son was two years old, and the search for childcare from overseas was daunting. That being said, we valued the communication from the administration starting with our initial inquiry and appreciated all the effort they put into getting to know us as parents as well as our son before he ever set foot on their campus. The staff at CHMS is truly incredible! Our son's transition into his new environment (in a new country, no less) was as seamless as possible, and the Montessori guides in the toddler program even set him up for success with potty training earlier than we anticipated. He then transitioned into the preschool program, which provided him with the structure and support he needed to truly thrive. It has been an absolute joy to witness how proud he is to share what he is learning and the work he brings home every week. He has also loved the music lessons from Dr. Louise, and the spring concert is one of the highlights of the year for all of us! We were so impressed with the plays that all three classes performed at the graduation ceremony as well - it was the perfect culmination to celebrate how much they had all grown during their time at CHMS! The summer camps have also been something our son has enjoyed every year, and we are extra grateful for the rising kindergarten class they put together this summer to prepare the graduates for their next adventure. Our son is not only prepared, but excited to go to kindergarten because of the foundation the entire CHMS community has built for him. Speaking of which, the community at CHMS has been priceless. Our son has formed lifelong friendships, and we have enjoyed getting to know the other families as well. Our daughter is 22 months old and just started summer camp in the toddler program, and we can already see these bonds forming for her, too. We cannot overstate how much the community at CHMS means to our family and look forward to watching our daughter continue on her very own journey at this special place.

Our more reserved child blossomed into a social butterfly, and it was so special to watch her build friendships with a number of kids in her class. I think the mixed-age Montessori classroom and the nurturing teachers helped her come out of her shell. The school is incredibly well run, communication is excellent, and in the rare event a challenge came up, the staff was thoughtful, responsive, and genuinely cared. My kids may have teared up on their first days at CHMS, but I was the one tearing up on their last. We are going to miss CHMS and highly recommend!

Staff is like family and they really have genuine concern for your child. Warm and friendly people. The school is cozy, safe and not too big, which creates a homelike environment for kids. She has no respect or education for parents. Last time, she kept questioning a parent and I saw him yelled at him. My child has been bullied and nothing has been done. It is still the same thing. I am glad my child is not coming to this school anymore after it ends in June 2024. I will transfer or move my child to another elementary school. I hope FCPS can do something because its unfair for parents and kids.

The Young Children's Classroom (YCC) will always have a special place in my heart as such a loving and caring environment for our child's first school experience. The primary classroom has also been an amazing experience to watch our child grow in knowledge, curiosity and independence. DRMS is the real deal when it comes to having AMI certified lead guides (teachers) in all classrooms. We've appreciated the parent nights that help us transfer Montessori principles and positive discipline into home life. An added bonus of this school is the local community you build with other families and parents. We are so grateful to the friendships we have built and to the other parents who equally support this school and invest in building up the teachers and administration.

It's the usual relentless and carefully parsed blah-blah-blah, intended to lure you in. We were made to believe that my child would be treated with empathy, kindness, fairness and integrity. That wasn't our experience. Perhaps we misunderstood what we experienced, but that wasn't our impression. Make careful evaluations, and trust your nose.

Not what you'd expect from a private school…read more Most teachers at the school are public school teachers in Germany that come here to teach form a few years. This doesn't mean that they're bad teachers, but not what you expect from a private school. They will only do what is required and nothing more. During Covid my daughter's teachers would sometimes not show up to zoom classes. The cafeteria food is bad. One example is a baked potato with sour cream, that's it! Upon questioning the menu myself the reply was we'll look into it but never heard back. The air conditioner is always full blast having my kids wear a jacket in class during the warm months. When asked about it they said it's the way it is. The computers are old and outdated. Administration seemed helpful and friendly until you need help with a serious situation. Some children had a hard time with online classes and weren't doing as well as they were prior to covid, some teachers did not care and graded them as they always had even though the principal assured the parents that they wouldn't. When questioning the teachers they told us they weren't told or others said they were, but clearly not. The seniors (2021) had a problem with the travel agency with the money a teacher paid ahead of time before Covid for a trip to San Francisco. Instead of helping them get the money back they were told to let the money go. Even when parents got involved! They did end up going on a trip to West Virginia for 2 nights on a bus and paid almost the same amount that the 5 days in San Francisco would have costs!!!This is including airfare. The kids worked hard to save money for the trip and were shamelessly robbed by the agency. Several staff members literally told the parents to let the money go and one staff member was even rude and yelled when asked for support in the matter. I cloud go on and on but the idea of the non-supporting staff is clear. I do want to mention that one teacher did go above and beyond his responsibilities, Herr Tack. Sadly he left to Germany this Summer. My daughter and the other children will surely miss him. Had we had more choices than just this school we would have sent out kids elsewhere.
