Tania, our wonderful waitress, helped us select the perfect wine and mocktails to go with our excellent food. I had the best Scampi I've ever tasted. The Chef Colin-made pasta was coated with a delectable sauce and perfectly sauteed shrimp. The Door Country Cherry BBQ ribs were tender and meaty. The Walleye was pan seared to perfection. Be sure to save room for dessert and order the New York Cheesecake. It was so creamy and covered in caramel and chopped cashews. We loved the atmosphere of the historic restaurant which is beautifully maintained. We will make this place a family celebration tradition. read more

We are there last night and we were disappointed. We both had the the Walley and it was as good as before the takeover. We also had the calamari and again not even close to what was offered before. While I realize the new manager has just taken over and he wants to mix it up a little, my advice is to stick to some of the great things they offered in the past. Our service was great so problem there. My star rating is strictly based on the food. read more

Disappointing Anniversary Dinner We went out for our wedding anniversary to a restaurant that's received high marks in the past, only to leave very disappointed. Last night's dinner was such a letdown. When the hostess went to seat us, I asked not to be placed against the wall. I also mentioned that we were celebrating our anniversary, and she replied, rather snottily, "Yeah, a lot of people are celebrating their anniversary tonight," making it feel like no big deal. Not exactly the warm welcome we were expecting. When our food finally arrived, my $58 8oz filet was dry and not cooked as I requested. I wasn't going to say anything, but for that price, I felt I should. When I mentioned it to the server, her response was, "Well, you already took a bite of it." I had taken two small bites to see if it had any flavor, it didn't. I had also ordered it with a crusted blue cheese topping, but instead, it came with a few blue cheese crumbles sprinkled on top. Everything about the dish was wrong. We decided to move on to dessert and share a slice of cheesecake. The waitress came back to tell us it was still frozen but that we could take it home if we wanted. They offered us two free desserts, but we only took the one, and later noticed a $10 discount on the bill. For an upscale restaurant, the experience was extremely disappointing from the attitude of the hostess to the poor quality of the food. Definitely not the special evening we hoped for. read more

After the previous owners had it and now it has been sold - the place just isn't the same. Prices are higher and the quality of their food just does not rate as high. Now I heard they are redoing all the beautiful wood that had all been restored to its natural state. Was very much looking forward to this birthday meal. The place itself is wonderful. We sat outside and the weather was awesome. Inside looked like a good vibe. Outside was a good vibe until the band started. They were loud. Food--we started with the onion strings, which was just ok but a bit greasy. The artichoke dip had no taste and had cheddar cheese on top. Not our thing. Main courses--I had the steak sandwhich, baked potato and a side of asparagus. No taste. Meat chewy and sandwhich fell apart. Baked potato was ok. Asparagus was eh. One of my kids had the watermelon salad (four small pieces of watermelon). It had a good taste though. Her Mac and cheese was good. My other daughter had a burger. They did not ask what temp, and it was dry and very well done. Wife had the walleye and she said it was good. The sides of green beans and rice were not edible. Again, the positives are the vibe outside on a beautiful day. Negatives are that the food was just not up to par, and service was very slow. Timmers is always a great experience. We typically go here a few times during the winter and once a month in the summer. The appetizers and service is always outstanding and the food has been revamped and is outstanding. The calamari steak appetizer is great, the wine specials are an amazing deal and Friday fish fry can't be beat. It was our first time visiting Timmer's, we came in on a Friday night. We were able to call ahead and was seated right away. Our server was excellent, she was so attentive. She gave us some recommendations on the menu and was quick with bringing us our drinks. The calamari appetizer is a must try! Everything came out at a good pace and the manger even stopped by to check on us since we were first timers. Food was excellent, our table all had different dishes and we all loved them. We've had some decent meals at Timmer's but were sorely disappointed on August 7 when three of us ate for $150 before tipping. One weak cocktail and a soda. Our food commenced with baked spinach and artichoke dip. The pita chips ended up being the highlight of the meal. The dip itself tasted okay but there was more cheddar cheese on top of the dish than dip below. After the first bite, the cheese hardened so fast that we needed a knife to get more on a chip. It's hardly a dip when you have to use a knife! The salads were just okay. Long wait for our entrees. My wife wanted the BBQ chicken but was told that they had been out of chicken since the day before. Hard to believe there's a supply issue for chicken, but okay. She ordered a half rack of ribs. The ribs came with a baked potato, which I could tell from my seat next to her was flawed from the slice down the middle of the potato. Indeed, when my wife opened the potato further, there was a blemish the size of a quarter on both halves of the potato. We didn't complain because we were unlikely to eat the potato anyway, but it's hard to believe a potato that bad left the kitchen in the first place. No pride in presentation here. The ribs themselves were not good. The "sweet BBQ glaze" was more "peppery and bitter." Two of us had the short ribs, which were another big disappointment. Two brown, dried, rectangles of meat that looked like they had been prepared days before. They came with a "black cherry and red wine demi glacé," which was more like a weak gravy. The meat was tough and had to be cut with a steak knife. The "gravy" could soften a few bites, but that's all. Most short ribs, in my experience, are so tender and juicy you can peel them off a bone with a fork. No bone here. More like mystery meat. The green beans were chewy as well. Chewy seemed to be the hallmark of our meal. A pretty setting for a sub-par meal that will not be enough to get us back to Timmer's again. read more

Ambiance we very nice. Very nice bar, several stone fireplaces. Nice snacks at the bar and friends bartenders. Our bartender gave us some nice history of the place. Our group had 2 old fashions and 2 wines. Old fashions were very average. 3 of us had salmon, roasted veggies, and salad. I had the scallops and risotto. Salmon was good and portion was decent. Roasted veggies were scarce. My scallops were pretty good, but I bet I got 2 tablespoons of risotto. I also got 4 soggy sprigs of asparagus. For the price we were pretty disappointed. How can a restaurant be out of a few basic menu items on a Saturday night? It was a lengthy wait for service, no water, no butter, and poor quality food. Timmer's has been a staple in our family for years. This was our first visit since the transition of ownership - the drinks were on point and a perfect pour. We had a larger group and the wait service although so wonderfully nice seemed a bit taxed. The food itself was delicious but some of the food on the plates was cold. It was just the little things that were off though. For instance, the Walleye- is absolutely phenomenal. Truly. One of the best preps in the region but the rice was cold and the veggies were room temp. We were all willing to overlook that because we were a larger group and we have been lovers of Timmer's. Grilled chicken BLT and burgers were all on point in terms or flavor and temp but would have been even better if they had only received a little love like a lightly buttered and grilled bun. Without that touch the bread can be a tad dry but the meats were cooked perfectly. Honestly, though, that Walleye - is outstanding, the drinks were a great pour and the staff was lovely. It was just a few small things that could have made it even better. There's no question we'll be back - we just may keep the size of our group to no more than than 6. read more

Well I wish I could say this rating was for a spectacular dinner that I had at Timmer's, but alas, it is only for the bar, for on the night we wanted to go, we couldn't get a reservation so it was no table for us. But that didn't matter to our group as we just boated over from across the lake, walked across the beautiful grounds to the main restaurant and there, to our amazement, given it was a holiday weekend, was a bar with few people at it. Yay! said my drink taste buds. And a well poured martini was in front of me in no time at all. We were able to also order a few appetizers with our drinks like calamari, shrimp cocktail and french fries. These all came up quickly and were devoured even faster than the drinks were downed. Speaking of drinks- this place pours some really good drinks, so table or not I would go back just to sit at the bar and talk with the friendly bartenders. And if our group hadn't been so large, we probably would have just sat at the bar and ate our dinner. As we were leaving to head to a dinner reservation elsewhere on the lake, you couldn't help but notice the live entertainment outside as well as the firepit and people on the spacious lawn just enjoying themselves. So note to self: make a reservation early the next time, dummy. Maybe you'll be one of those who actually gets to sit at a table outside enjoying the lake life at Timmer's versus just envying those who planned ahead. read more

Our party of 3 had dinner here last night. The ambiance was beautiful, the Christmas decorations divine and service was great! Our server, Grace, kept an eye on our needs and did it with great skill and in a friendly manner. We all ordered filets and I MISTAKENLY ordered my steak medium well and meant to order it medium rare. Grace to the rescue ordered a replacement filet the way I wanted it to be. Out came the Manager, Mark, who was most gracious and wanted to make sure everyone was happy with their order. We WERE. We are going back Friday for a fish fry. Try it. You'll love it. read more

Food was good. Typical supper club although pricier than others in the region. Had reservations for 7 and were told to wait in the bar. Others arriving later than us also told to wait but then, one by one, everyone else in the bar was seated before us. After waiting almost an hour, and the bar was empty by this time, we were seated at a tiny table in a lousy location. My impression was the service was good, only for those who are known regulars. Timmer's Resort is a beautiful place to have a good meal. The staff is welcoming and accomplished. Unfortunately, the kitchen not so much. There were three of us for dinner on a Tuesday. Instead of the usual menu, there were Tuesday specials. It is my understanding that each evening of the week has a special menu. My dining companions ordered baked salmon dressed in a sweet, citrusy sauce. I ordered the grilled pork chop, medium. Timmer's is not shy about charging for their entrees. Our salads were very good. The bread was average. My pork chop was very well done and dry. My friends complained that the sauce on the salmon tasted slightly bitter and there was too much of it. The salmon itself was remarkably tasteless leaving us to presume it was farmed. I returned my meal. While the staff offered to provide me another entree, I dislike having to encourage others to start eating while their meal is warm, and then having them wait while I hurry to try and finish mine. They did comp me my meal. This certainly is not the Timmer's I remember or was expecting! Just not a good dining experience coupled with what the restaurant was charging. read more

For dinner, we were seated right in front of the fireplace, making for a toasty backdrop to a gorgeous dining room. We enjoyed an appetizer of crab cakes, filet mignon and the Chef's special Ribeye. Located on the southeastern shore of Big Cedar Lake, you will enjoy a picturesque drive through the Kettle Moraine before arriving at Timmer's. Dining on a Friday evening was no problem for a 2 top table, however, seems most patrons were tables of 5 or more and there was a substantial wait for these larger groups. There is a large bar area and a large cozy dining room with a huge stone fireplace. Al fresco dining is available during the brief Wisconsin summer with a nice but limited view of the lake. Think the patio area could be a little more spruced up! Seeing as this was Friday night in Wisconsin, fish fry was king. I was personally happy to see that other options of fresh fish were available and not prepared in the fryer. The scallops were seared to absolute perfection! A perfect golden brown crust with a meltingly soft inside. My Mr had the sautéed walleye which was light and flaky and the taste took me back to when I was a kid and my Grandpa would catch and cook it. Sides were standard and nothing all that special but the seafood was really fresh and expertly prepared! While having a pre dinner glass of wine at the bar, noticed a 10 gallon bucket of ice cream soon to be followed by endless orders for a variety of frozen creamy concoctions. I personally have never indulged in one of these decadent delights but if I were to try one I would be inclined to do it here where the patrons obviously like what the bartender is doing! We had not been to Timmers in like 12 plus years. Went tonight not realizing it was Slinger High School Homecoming so the place was quite busy. There was room at high top table in the bar so we chose to eat in there. Ordered drinks from the bar and they cAme quickly. We shared the eggplant appetizer - very good and with an artisan flare. I had the pan seared Walleye and husband had the ribeye. Both meals were excellent! Vegetable was roasted cauliflower and Brussels sprouts. Food was hot and well presented. We arrived for our reservation promptly and were seated 30 minutes later. I had reviewed the menu online earlier, and it was much more interesting than what we had at the restaurant. I ordered the salmon dinner, which was burned and well over cooked. The entire meal was unsatisfactory and the desert topped it all. We ordered the bread pudding, which was virtually inedible. Fortunately, we ordered it a la mode so we could eat the ice cream to offset the bitter and burnt taste of the bread pudding. We reported to the waiter that the bread pudding didn't taste right. He went back to the kitchen, returned, and told us that the reason was that the chocolate on the bread pudding had been burned. Evidently they knew that before they sent it out to our table, but chose to serve it to us anyway. All of that for around $100 for two. We won't return. read more

came with my family early on a Friday evening excited for some cocktails & a fish fry. by 5pm, the supper club vibe restaurant was already getting busy! we started at the bar for a round of old fashioned -- very well made. for appetizers we had mussels and calamari (best I've ever had!). both had a delicious light cream sauce on them, and the calamari was hunks/little pieces instead of the tentacles I normally see -- so good, and a very generous portion size. for dinner we all had some assortment of the Friday fish fry. I really enjoyed the beer battered cod -- four pieces was probably overkill as I only had two. the fries had a nice seasoning, and I absolutely LOVED the tartar sauce (I normally don't like tartar but this one was more like a dill dip). only con is that we realized after we ate that they forgot the bread bowl, and also the rye bread & coleslaw with our entree! we felt a bit slighted missing these options, but by time we remembered it was too late to bring up. read more

The head hostess has been there for years and unfortunately, she is consistently the worst part of the experience. While the outdoor patio is wonderful, the hostess is very unbending and unfriendly. If you ask for a seat in the shade but only have 2 people, you will be told no because the shaded 4 top tables can only have parties of 4 at them. Grrrr. This annoys me every time. Isn't the customer always right? At any rate - we sat in the sun this week but with temps in the high 60's, it was really quite comfortable. Our service was good. The young waitress was friendly and efficient. The Old Fashioned was not homemade. They use a mix but it was strong and tasty, Timmer's offers two types of fried cod and both are delicious. The beer battered cod (top in the attached picture) was slightly soggy but the batter was seasoned well. My husband and I both agreed that the corn flake crusted (bottom in the above picture) was the tastier option. The crust gives the cod a wonderful crunch without being too heavy. Now for the potato options. I LOVE their fries! They are perfectly golden and crisp and dusted with ranch seasoning. Yum! The potato pancakes are homemade. They are cooked well but were a tad too "oniony" for my liking. Summers in Wisconsin are so short! Take advantage of the outdoor seating here. read more

I cannot believe the experience we had last night at Timmer's. We have been going to this restaurant for YEARS. When our kids graduate from High School, we come here to celebrate. When it's our Anniversary or Birthday, we come here to celebrate. The bartender, Jeff, has the same birthday as me and I have enjoyed coming to the bar and having a birthday drink here for years. So last night, my husband and I stopped in to have a cocktail and meet a friend of his who lives on the lake. The bartenders were busy, as someone had just ordered 8 grasshoppers. You could tell they were pretty stressed about it. There were 4 people behind the bar- and you couldn't really tell who was bartending and who wasn't. We got our drinks and that was it. We were never waited on again. We were never asked if we wanted another- even when it was painfully obvious that our glasses were empty. The bar was NOT busy, and there were 4 people behind the bar cleaning furiously. It was close to 9:00 pm and there were 5 tables in the dining room, as well as a party in the front room. The signs all around the restaurant and in the entrance and in the bathroom say the hours are 4 to close. No specific time, just 4-close. Well, they were cleaning, pulling the pour tops out of the bottles, wiping them off and wiping down the rails at 9:15 even though there were 8 people at the bar and lots of people left in the restaurant. It was as if they couldn't get out of there fast enough. It was obvious they weren't serving any more drinks, so we decided to go elsewhere. At that point (and again- there were 4 people behind the bar)- we couldn't even get anyone's attention to get our bill. We had started a tab and it was next to impossible to close out. The service was unbelievably horrible. I've been a bartender for over 20 years and it was actually shocking to me. I'd also like to mention that when I ordered a Tito's press, the young woman who was bartending had to ask another bartender how to make it- and when I asked her for a lemon, she put a USED lemon in my drink! A lemon that had already been squeezed and who knows where she got it from?! I think she picked it out of the sink to be honest. It was unacceptable. But honestly, nobody seemed to care. It was time for them to clean and end their shift and it didn't matter if there were customers there or not. I'm so unbelievably disappointed by this whole experience- I don't know if we will ever go there again. What happened here? I know that it's hard to get help, but there were 4 people behind the bar all looking for something to do-and their priority was to get out of there as fast as possible. Unbelievable. If your staff wants to leave at 9:00 pm promptly, maybe post a sign that you close at 9:00 pm and not at "close" so people know they need to get out ASAP. read more

Wow, my experience and the reviews are polar opposite. Originally, we set out to celebrate my birthday with a steak dinner. Unfortunately $78 for a ribeye dinner changed my bday plan.. We settled for chicken sandwiches and a hamburger. All three were salted so heavily it was barely edible. The baked potatoes were the size of a child's fist. The waiter seemed pleasant enough but once the plates were dropped at the table, he was gone. The two star rating is for ambiance. The restaurant is pretty. The food.....pretty horrible.
