Going to Timothy O'Toole's is an annual tradition when attending Cubs Con. One of Chicago's best sports bars with TVs everywhere and over 40 beers on tap. Located on Fairbanks you walk downstairs and are greeted by the hostess. We went on a Friday night around 830pm and we were immediately seated . The place is huge! Started with some local beers and ordered their Chipotle bbq wings and Ruben egg rolls. You get 10 wings which are large,juicy and delicious. The egg rolls had a good amount of corned beef and just the right amount of sauerkraut. Comes with a thousand island dipping sauce. Service was excellent. Staffing did not seem to be an issue. Pretty good sports bar with more TV's than you could ask for. Watched my Mavs get blown out of the water here, but the food was decent and the drink selection is broad. Only improvement I'd suggest is investing in a few larger screens rather than 70+ smaller screens. There's more than a few seating spots where you can't catch a good viewing angle without cranking your neck. If the back wall screens were larger you could avoid this problem. Overall the atmosphere was great, the place was packed for the playoffs which made service a bit slower but that's to be expected. Will be coming back. read more

First thing I noticed is that this place is very clean and had a very welcoming atmosphere. We got the cheese curds to start, which were pretty good but nothing special to me. The onion garlic burger though...was out of this WORLD good. Forgot to take a pic because it looked so bomb that I forgot lol. HELP!!!! This place.... AVOID!!! Non Veteran Service Disabled Veterans please avoid this restaurant. I have an Ada certified service dog. I walked into the restaurant to have dinner. Management would not allow me to sit at the bar. They said you need to sit in the corner or leave because of my ADA certified service dog. They claimed allergies?!?!? I mean all well in good but at 1am who's reserving when basically u shutting down in an hour?? Anyways .. we were seated at a table. Drinks to start Tito's & seltzer , this was not bad Strawberry / banana margarita , nice taste light on the alcohol it was a bit too sweet for me then got a Johnny black & ginger ale crazy light , all u tasted was ginger ale. We were able to get an order of what I thought was Garlic parm wings ahh more like butter w Parmesan cheese on top! No garlic flavor to the wings they were just basically fried wings that tasted better when dipped in the ranch which says a lot. I really debated whether or not I should make this review because I've been coming to this bar for years and there are a few bartenders that are great; however, most of the barstaff here is usually verrry slow and you pretty much need to ask for service because they're not attentive otherwise, even if they're right in front of you. Im usually surrounded by other patrons that have empty or almost empty drinks and it takes a while for the majority of customers to get anyone's attention, even though they're just standing right there, oblivious. Despite this, I still come here after work because it's open late and they have food Tonight was another level of bad. I walked in and sat down. The bartender was standing right in front of me. She saw me, but she didn't greet me, she didn't say "hey be with you in a minute", no acknowledgement whatsoever. After about 8 minutes of just sitting patiently, trying to make eye contact and watching her do whatever (even watching her go on her phone), I finally asked her if I could please have a menu and if she could make me a drink. Luckily, a more friendly bartender walked up at the moment and assisted. The customer shouldn't have to initiate, I work and have worked in bars for over 15 years, even if youre in the middle of a task, ignoring the people that pay your bills (and aside from tonight, I always tip really well) is ridiculous. A simple acknowledgement goes a long way. Already off to a bad start. There was a very drunk man sitting beside me, he kept trying to talk to me, I was polite but not engaging and I explained that I was having a very important conversation on my phone. It was obvious to anyone with eyes, that he was bothering me and I wasn't interested. There were even men across the bar that were giving me a concerned look. The attentive bartender noticed as well and asked if everything was okay. Anyway, I got some food and as soon as it comes, this drunk spills his drink all over the bar and on the side of my plate. I honestly didn't even care but at this point he should've been cut off. Instead he gets another long island, and he becomes even more annoying, putting his hands way too close to me and hovering above and around my food to point at it for whatever reason, invading my space and trying to get me to talk to him. The bartenders saw this. I can stand up for myself so I didn't need help, but when this man whispered in the bartenders ear to make me a drink on his tab, she shouldn't have. Bartending 101- make your customers feel comfortable, don't allow drunk patrons to harass women that are OBVIOUSLY not interested. She shouldve picked up on the obvious social cues and the fact that this man was bothering me, and perhaps asked me if I wanted a drink from him. Instead, she made the drink he ordered for me (that wasn't even close to anything I ever drink there which is irrelevant but also funny) and then gives it to me and says it's from him. Because she did that, I was stuck there in this awkward situation either having to thank this man that I dont want anything to do with or having to be "rude" and refuse it which makes him angry. I politely thanked him but told him I don't drink gin and he should keep it. He was obviously bothered by this and continued to stare me down as I tried to eat my food. He sat there for another 10 minutes glaring at me before leaving all pissed off. This all should've been handled a lot differently. I had a horrible experience. As I was leaving, 2 guys sat down at the bar next to me and they got pretty fast service and an industry discount hahaha what a fun night read more

I don't know why but I thought a place with a name like O'Tooles would be a great Irish pub - it's not. There is a sign that says Harp on Tap - it's not. They have a cocktail menu but they don't really make them - to be fair, they tell you that they can make them but you won't like them. Look around the bar and see if you can spot the cocktail strainer or stir stick - you can't. I ordered a black and tan that was the most poorly made black and tan I have ever had. The one saving grace for this bar is that they have a great selection of craft beers on tap. read more

Honestly I'm a fan! My friend in our group mentioned that he had been here before and liked it. Considering we were right down the street at Murasaki and wanted to hop elsewhere, this place was perfect. It's underground, and the ceilings are kind of low but with string lights. It adds to the atmosphere, and makes it kind of a cozy place to grab food and drinks. While we never tried the food, our drinks were excellent (I liked my beer), and it's just a good place to catch up with friends or even go on a casual date. We came and put our name on the list and I got a text that my table was ready after about 30 minutes GREAT. Went to the hostess who walked us to the table that was given away, no biggie , that happens. She asked us to wait around the corner to figure something out and never came back. We waited 10 minutes and I finally walked back up and she said she thought someone else told me. Have come here on and off the last couple years for drinks and the occasional takeout nachos, but decided to order dinner from here recently. I understand it's a sports bar so not expecting high end gourmet cuisine but you'd imagine the classics (burgers fries sandwiches etc) would be good. Got the Speakeasy burger (subbed the blue cheese and egg bread with jalapeno jack and brioche bun) with a side of potato soup, and 1/2 lb Irish ghost sauce wings. First strike: the bun came with egg bread like originally on the menu but not the brioche bun I chose (it wasn't even a special request, it was part of the Grubhub dropdown options). The burger was fine, burger patty was a nice 1/2lb and cooked medium like expected, the bacon was crisp and cheese was melted. But the egg bread didn't have much texture or flavor to it and didn't hold up that well to all the fillings. It hit the spot in a pinch but I've had much better in Chicago. The potato soup was creamy, full of bacon bits and scallions, and honestly probably the best of the things I got. The wings had a nice kick to them but not as much as I'd hope from an "Irish ghost sauce" (felt more like a buffalo sauce level of spice), and could've been crispier. The portions were reasonable and the meal was satisfying. They also have daily specials that seem like great deals, but otherwise I don't think the food is particularly memorable. My son and I went on a long late morning walk while waiting for my wife and daughter to get ready. We were way over on the east side of Chicago, checking out some serious industrial sights right on the river. On our way back, we saw Timothy O'Tooles and decided to go in. This is one beautiful Irish pub. Beautiful bar area. Beautiful seating areas. Beautiful bartenders. Our bartender was a Chicago native and she was awesome. I had a couple of Crown and Cokes. That was my Chicago drink this go round. My son had a couple of Old Styles. Service was perfect! We sat at the bar. It wasn't very crowded, but got busier as we were leaving. 4 stars for the fact that the Crowns were a little weak. Great visit, and would definitely return again. I will order beers next time. We were hungry and wanted to get a quick bite to eat. Little did we know how fun our day (and evening) would turn out. We walked here from our nearby hotel (4 blocks). It was busy, but they were able to seat us immediately. Samantha, our server, was terrific. Despite it being St. Patty's Day weekend and the amount of guests at the restaurant, she was attentive and friendly. We ordered the Chicago Fire Burger with French fries and the Reuben with Tater Tots. The burger was delicious, but it was not as spicy as I hope. It was still great and I would order it again, but request a little more spice. My friend enjoyed the Reuben sandwich. We complimented our entrees with green beers, then Aperol spritz and then finally shared a pitcher of green beer. There was wonderful bagpipers, festive people, great music, games and overall a wonderful blissful atmosphere of celebration. We happened to get there during Happy Hour and decided to try the Fried Pretzel Trio - delicious! The Fried Shrimp was delicious, too! Timothy was closed for a while during the pandemic. I visited Chicago during March and the place was closed. Now I'm back here and I am so happy that this place has reopened its doors. This is one of the main spots to go to while visiting Chicago. Each time I am here I head over to Timothy's. I love the vibe here. Food and drinks are good and at a fair price. When entering you walk downstairs and there is usually someone to check ids at the booth. This relief the waitress, waiter, or bartender of checking IDs. I believe minors can come here when accompanied with an adult. So far this one of the top places to go when visiting the city. Highly recommended! read more

I have never been so disrespected in my life than when I went to Timothy pub. I don't even write reviews usually but the way the treated me really lit a fire to give me honest review. Here's the breakdown of the situation: I originally ordered chicken wings to go because I walked 15 minutes from the Sheraton reiverview to get to Timothy's. While waiting for my beer I ordered a corona because I get it, it takes time to make chickens wings. When the wings arrived I was told I was NOT allowed to stay and eat in the restaurant because "I did not order the beer at the same time as the chicken wings." Yet they wanted to charge me for the beer even though they would not let me stay there to drink it. I can honestly say I have never been so disrespected in my life it felt like discrimination and I hope whoever my waitress was gets fired because she is hurting your business. I will make sure anyone I know never comes back to your establishment, why the hell would we pay to be treated like shit. Worst experience of my life especially after walking through ice covered sidewalks to get to your restaurant. I'm going to leave another review when my credit card transaction goes through and post my receipt in yelp it needs to be told in my nearly 40 years on earth I've never been treated like this as a paying patron. I stopped in here before a concert and was amazed at the television setup. Timothy O'Toole's is the place to be for a game. We were seated at a table after striking out at finding a stop at the bar. It was a college football Saturday so it is understandable. Beers were poured, food was served (little timmy) quickly. We only had one drink before we had to get to the concert. No real complaints here as it is a typical dive bar with great service. Would love to come back for a game because I can see the atmosphere being electric. Timothy O'Tooles pub is not a lot different than many Pubs of its ilk. Its bigger than most, the food is as good as it needs to be, they carry all the big Irish brand s of whiskey and beer. Its got the usual walls covered in Irish stuff. It feels very Irish, if that tells you anything. It reminds me of many of the pubs I've visited in Dublin. The service was reasonable but not great. The bartenders dont watch the patrons very closley, so you could be standing at the bar being ignored for a couple of minutes until the barkeep notices you, as was my experience. read more
