Tinker Coffee is in the process of building out their cafe. My husband and I showed up thinking that they were a fully functioning cafe, when they are solely a roaster right now. The staff was AWESOME! They made us pour overs and talked is through some of the great spots in Indy. They seriously were so hospitable and welcoming, taking time out of their work day. We were blown away by their openness to still make us a cup of coffee when we had made the mistake of thinking the space was a cafe. Seriously so great! Can't wait to come back and visit the cafe.

Update: Tinker Coffee continues to be a lifesaver in my household. My husband and I go through five bags of beans every month through their subscription service. Few things make me happier than that box of high-quality coffees at our doorstep the first week of every month. Also, in pandemic times Tinker Coffee been a lifesaver in our community by leading the way in caring for the hospitality and healthcare workers. Their efforts are deeply admirable, which is why Tinker Coffee has locked in my loyalty for life.

Having tried Tinker Coffee at quite a few local coffee shops, I decided to finally head downtown to the source of those fine brews to get some for home. The location does not have a "fresh pot brewing" for you, so if you are thinking it's a coffee shop, you would be mistaken. What it does have is the source beans and a large roaster and the end product sold (as whole beans or ground) in 12 oz. bags. When I entered, I was greeted and the man asked what kind of coffee I liked, what I used to make it, and then made recommendations for the coffees that best fit that description. I picked up a couple of the resealable bags: One was Muheres Cafeteras (Coffee Women) which is medium coffee from Colombia that is from a collective of over 300 female coffee producers. It has hints of Granny Smith apples, cinnamon, and jam. I don't have the best equipment at home, and may not have made it quite strong enough, but the flavors were very subtle, but nice. I also picked up a Finca La Aurora (Villa Aurora) from Nicaragua which is another medium blend with hints of chocolate, shortbread, and red apple. This one was my preferred flavor as the accents came through a little better on my equipment and balanced out quite well. Neither of the choices had the bitterness I've found in store bought coffee. Yeah! As I wrote earlier, there was a balance in the flavor so that though there is probably some bitterness, it didn't dominate the flavor. For those who are interested, there are occasional "cupping" events on site that cost $15 for a class (90 to 120 minutes) held on select Saturdays. You do have to reserve a spot on their website to attend since they limit the class size to make it manageable for the staff and enjoyable for the visitors. I hope to make one of the upcoming classes soon so I can learn all about the finer points of appreciating coffee nuances. Until then, I will simply enjoy what I have just purchased. Review #2133

A cup of Tinker Coffee isn't just a cup of coffee. It's a cup of knowledge, passion and dedication, and responsibly sourced ingredients. I've met a few of the staff members at Tinker through random events around the city and they've all been nothing but helpful, friendly people. They're all extremely passionate and knowledgeable. I had the experience of doing a cupping session. I knew little-to-nothing about "craft" coffee, but I feel like I had a better understanding after this educational session. They also have great partnerships throughout the state, so be sure to check the roasters of local coffee shops and restaurants - they might be using Tinker's roasts! Although I don't know a ton about coffee, Tinker helps me understand and appreciate the craft coffee scene better. Great product, keep up the great work !

Why can't we have more Tinkers in the world? I love how coffee culture is all about sharing ideas, giving back to the community, community not competition, and good vibes all over. Tinker meets every one of these cultural tendencies. I work for another roaster in Portland OR and I had brought by a couple of bags to trade with these guys. We ended up spending a half hour making coffee and sharing our passion. Jeff was really nice and helped my buddy get his youth room set up with an awesome grinder and drip machine. If you are in Indy and need some good equipment this is the place to go. Their product is top notch and could compete with the best in Portland. I am making my bags I took home with me last as long as I can. I highly recommend Tinker if you have the option at a local coffee shop.

Our HAPPY Sunday spot! So happy to see them EVERYTIME! Great prices, FABULOUS options for everyone…read moreand wonderful staff! The ultimate trifecta! There aren't enough adjectives to say that fully express how much I appreciate Founders Coffee/Speedway Garage! Getting to work remote from here throughout the week has also been an amazing option that I very much love having. They have a great amount of space and the environment is so accommodating for having remote meetings too. Thank you to the entire staff for always being so welcoming and inviting! Everything is very much appreciated!

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. They were very busy on a Saturday morning (around 10:45am)…read more They have a decent amount of seating for the size of the space, but it wasn't enough for the amount of people coming in with various group sizes. I snagged a bar stool at a three top. I'd planned to write for a while, and it wasn't a very comfortable seat, but I made do. And I did enjoy all the natural light. Ordered a large matcha with coconut milk. They do have oat milk and almond milk as well--plus one for having dairy free options! I don't think I was charged extra for it either. (Thank you for that!) Their drink prices overall seemed very reasonable, and more affordable than several local coffee shops I've been to recently. I appreciated that! Other non-coffee options I noticed: hot teas, iced tea, chai. The matcha was good, but I kept getting this weird chemical-y smell from my drink? At first I thought it was the lid. Took that off, but still caught the smell whenever I took a sip. I think it was coming from the cup itself, like the inside white part. So when there was a lull, I took it back up to the register and explained because I couldn't drink it. They didn't offer to remake the drink, which I found kind of odd, but they gave me an iced coffee cup and I drank the rest of my thankfully not-too-hot-anymore matcha from it. I don't know what that was about, but it was unfortunate. Ended up moving to a round table in the side room to plug my laptop in after the battery died. It wasn't as "vibey" over there, but it was quieter/easier to focus, I had access to an outlet, and noticed no strange smells on that side, though my drink was gone by then. If you're coming here to talk or hang out, I think it's a good spot! If you're coming to work, I'd recommend having a fully charged laptop, beeline to the side room, and/or watch carefully for the tables near the limited outlets to free up in the main room. Street parking was pretty easy and free. I parked maybe halfway down Main St and walked. There were signs saying 3 hr parking on weekends, so planned my stay accordingly. I'm not usually in this area, so may or may not make it back. But it's definitely a popular spot with a good sized menu.

It is a bit challenging to find parking but there are a few spots in front. I parked down the street and walked which is always an option. There are a few stairs to get in but also a ramp, and the set up has a nice aisle like space for the line and plenty of tables and chairs. It can be quite loud so keep that in mind if you want a quieter reflection time, and maybe take it to go or sit outside. They have various food items but I absolutely LOVE their peanut butter energy balls! In fact that is why I came to this location as this is where the magic happens. They make them here and send them to other Tinker locations! They are the perfect blend of savory and a tad sweet and go super well with their coffee and/or London Fog tea. Yum! I will freely admit to buying all they had on hand, and now can enjoy them at home. Yay! It is a very busy spot so not the friendliest of staff, but assumed they were already hassled from the morning. It was a great spot to meet a friend and enjoy the patio and some tea/coffee. I would for sure go back and even bring a friend! In fact I've already mentioned it to several people as a potential meet up spot! Definitely something to enjoy!
