Steph and I stopped into Tinker Tavern to try out some reminiscent "hometown" grub, and it really hit the spot! As one of only two bars in Portland fully decked out as Buffalo Bills bars, the ambiance is spot-on for fans, and the menu perfectly matches that Western New York vibe. I tried the 'Weck Royale, which was a delicious twist on the classic Beef on Weck I've been craving. We also ordered the cheese curds, and they were great, especially with that Buffalo dry spice kick. Even though it was a Saturday afternoon and the place was really busy, we managed to snag seats at the bar, and the service was good throughout our visit. Stopped in to Tinker Tavern with my husband today after delivering keys to my client in SE Portland. We decided to try out some of Paul's reminiscent hometown grub that he has been missing. This being one of two bars in Portland dedicated to Buffalo Bills(his team, not mine), he's been hinting that he wanted to come and try to catch a game here but it's quite a hike from home in Beaverton. Well today was our day since we were so close. Walking in his face lit up as he took in all the Buffalo Bills decor around the restaurant. It was pretty busy on a Saturday afternoon holiday weekend; we found a couple seats up at the bar. So many things in the menu screamed out at us to try but "Weck Royale" was his choice, a delicious twist on the sandwich he's been craving since we last visited his hometown in 2018. The "Royale" version was served with bone marrow. The cheese curds were good with a Buffalo spice dry rub. I committed one of the cardinal East coast sins and asked for Ranch dressing!! I opted for the crab roll and a cup of clam chowder that were featured as their anniversary special. I have hit the Tinker for 3 different sandos in the last couple of weeks, Cheddar Weck, Italian and the Meatball, all have been really tasty, my fave was the Italian, but all are solid. I keep an eye out for an Italian Hoagie like I grew up with Pittsburgh, so had to try the one here at Tinker. Yeah, the Pittsburgh version was fully baked, cheese melted and all. At least Tinker toasted the roll for me. This sandiwch very meat, and quality Italian meats. The mama lil's pepper mayonnaise was a great flavorful touch. Place was pretty empty, so seemed lke the sandiwches took a little long to get to us. There are several Buffalo sports banners here, as well as several Mr. Spock things. Very friendly bar tender. Went on a social media recommendation. Lots of regulars, good vibe. Looks like a watering hole where Buffalo Bills' fans congregate. The Negroni special was tasty, but a touch too expensive. I ordered their most popular item, the Cheddah 'Weck: a generous serving of beef on top of a au jus soaked roll. The yummy cheese is a thick sauce rather than a melted slice. And on Wednesday it's on special and includes better than average potato chips. The bartender and another guy who worked there were cool. As a former Buffalonian and Bills fan, I am happy to have Tinker Tavern. A place where I can order Labatt and a beef on weck? With snow outside I feel like I'm back in WNY. That beef on weck is great by the way, and I never get tired explaining to people what 'weck' is... I also love getting to sing our fight song with a room full of fans. It's not uncommon to see the opposing teams fans braving a room full of crazy Bills fans, but hey, it's not called the City of good neighbors for nothing - we are a generally welcoming crowd, as long as you aren't being a dick about it. And who can be a jerk to Bills fans? We suffer enough without your help thank you very much. Maybe one day we will be celebrating a Super Bowl win. Until then I will drown my anxiety and sorrow with a bucket of blues and a room full of people that just get it. I love this place. A place that has both a rotating wing sauce and rotating Negroni is definitely worth a visit, and Tinker knocks it out of the park on both. Excellent, comfortable bar with a genuinely impressive selection of liquor, beer, and amaros. The waffle fries really tie it all together. Having some kind of Trek playing all the time is also a great selling point for me as well. Last week I had the chance (finally!) to stop by Tinker Tavern to check it out with a couple of friends. The service was next level. We were never left wanting/waiting for anything and, rather, our drinks couldn't get below 1/2 level without a quick pop by/check in from our server (who was great...didn't get her name). She could always seem to anticipate what we needed before we even knew it. Beyond that, the waffle fries are REALLY good and drinks are great and reasonably priced. Bubbles for $8 a glass? YES please, particularly when many other places are charging an average of $12 a glass. The outdoor setup is great and everyone is equipped with heaters for a bonus! Check it out! I came here twice in just a few days because I enjoyed it so much. The Rose City Spritzer is the perfect mix of crisp refreshment and boozy goodness. My partner and I also ordered the pizza logs (pepperoni + mozzarella in an egg roll wrapper) and delicious heirloom tomato salad aka The Summer Salad. Both items were simple yet outstanding in their own way. The menu does consist of mostly sandwiches, so if that's not your thing, come here for the drinks. I must say the service is also top notch. I didn't think Montavilla needed another bar but I was wrong. It needed this place. As I live just a few blocks away I spend a lot of time in Montavilla. I agree with the other reviews that this place has an especially friendly, warm, casual vibe that is so great. It is perfectly placed in between the dive bar and the high-end expensive fancy places. The food is higher quality than the menu would suggest. My kids got addicted to the salt and pepper rub chicken wings, so I'm in here regularly to pick those up. I got a roasted root vegetable salad that was out of this world. It is so refreshing to see high quality healthy items on a classic bar menu. Brought some food from them to a movie down the street and the staff at tinker tavern got the food out super quickly for me to be on time to the movie, they are so accommodating. I vê been going to this bar for a year now and I always tip between 30-50 %and I never have more than 2 drinks then I leave.I wish I knew the woman's name but I don't. Typically I don't tip her as well bc she gives me the worst service I've ever experienced in my life(. So I tipped her 5 bucks on my 1st order which was light for me and then I ordered and went outside... I was complaining about the service to the people I was with and then I decided to go kill her with kindness. So my next round was 18 dollars and I tipped her $22 then she proceeded to come outside and tell me that she heard I didn't like her and was yelling at me. I replied with"Girl I just gave you a 22 tip on an 18 bill what's the problem and she said some things to me I can't repeat in public and said You can have your f.... Money F U and don't come back.
