We have toured other facilities from time to time as I have changed jobs and the location is no longer convenient for my commute, but we have always found that no other child care facility we've seen holds a candle to what our kids receive at Child Garden. We love the facility itself - the full gym is amazing, the meals are great, but it's the love, care, and practical Montessori-based instruction they provide that makes such a difference. J's demeanor is very passive aggressive and unpleasant, she is slow to respond to issues from parents. There is very little diversity among staff and children. I've seen kids exclude other children because of their skin color and staff refusing to address issues of racism among children. I don't recommend it.

It pains me to have to write an update on our experience at BCEC that ended up with my preschooler…read morebeing unceremoniously kicked out by the CEO, Leah, while, Tessa, the center director was on vacation. Things at BCEC started out strong and both our kids seemed to be doing really well there. We were happy with the infant and toddler teachers up until the day we left. After a few months at BCEC, my oldest daughter was regularly coming home from the preschool telling us how Ada yelled at her. Then we started getting notes sent home every single day outlining seemingly innocuous 4-year-old behavior. "Didn't want to nap." "Didn't want to sit still during story time." We weren't seeing any of the problem behaviors at home that BCEC was insisting were happening at the daycare. It got to the point where Tessa told us that she thought that our daughter needed to be evaluated for autism. We were shocked. We had no reason to believe that our daughter had autism, but we trusted BCEC because they were spending the whole day with her so we worked with the school district to have her evaluated. This whole time we were in regular communication with Tessa. We were coming in for regular meetings. We were bringing all sorts of tools to school to try to help our daughter follow the rules and schedule. Tessa ASSURED us that if they decided to "refer our daughter out" that they would give us plenty of time to find another daycare for her. When the school district came in to observe our daughter in her class the administrator told us that she spends time in A LOT of schools and she found the BCEC preschool class to be one of the most poorly managed classrooms she's observed. The curriculum was not age appropriate where Ada was expecting 3, 4, and 5 year olds to sit at tables and work on projects for over 30 minutes at a time. And when these poor kids couldn't sit still for that long she would yell at them. The administrator reported that our daughter was actually doing a good job of trying self regulate in a this very loud and chaotic environment, but even when she would try to go off by herself and sit quietly in a corner or under a table, the teaching staff would insist that she sit with the big loud group of kids. The administrator observed our daughter trying to play quietly by herself when a group of boys ran over and started hitting her with pillows which amped her up, but the teacher only yelled at our daughter for running with pillow not the boys who started the interaction. It was so bad that the school district administrator reached out to the executive team at BCEC to offer to provide some training on classroom management. The conclusion was that our daughter does not have autism, probably has ADHD, and the staff in the preschool classroom did not have the skills or desire to accomodate her. It was during this time that Tessa went on a two week vacation and I received an email at 5:30 PM on a Friday night from the CEO, Leah, who we had not interacted with AT ALL on this issue, that they were kicking my daughter out of the daycare and her last day would be the following Friday. Talk about a stressful time scrambling to find another daycare. The whole experience was so traumatic for my eldest daughter that she now refuses to speak Spanish.

Like any childcare center, it had its ups and downs during our time there. I'd like to walk through some of the experiences as neutrally as possible and hope others will find this review helpful. *Leadership You Can Feel Good About* Stacey Baker is a great and committed director. She truly cares about the children, the programs, and the families. I appreciated how personable and understanding she is, while still maintaining a strong commitment to safety and quality care. She does the best she can with the resources available to her and often steps in where needed. *Teachers Make the Difference* One of the strengths of Tutor Time is its few truly great teachers. When my son first started, he struggled with his initial teacher. At first, I assumed this was simply due to adjusting to a new environment, but we noticed that his behavioral challenges were specific to that classroom and did not occur with other teachers. Once he was moved to a different class, his experience and behavior improved dramatically--it was truly night and day. I hope Tutor Time considers having more teachers trained or mentored by their strongest educators. *How Our Child Was Supported and Engaged* For the most part, our son had a great time. I especially appreciated how his teachers embraced his love of drums and music, incorporating it into activities rather than labeling him as disruptive. He was able to develop new skills and broaden his food palate--it was wonderful seeing him enjoy foods beyond cereal. *Staffing Consistency (or Lack Thereof)* One consistent challenge during our time there was low staffing and high staff turnover. This sometimes caused confusion and disrupted teacher assignments and daily activities. As mentioned earlier, Stacey did her best under the circumstances, often filling in herself when needed. *Peer Behavior and Classroom Dynamics* Another concern we experienced involved our son picking up disruptive behaviors from older children. This was difficult to undo/ "correct" at home, as his behavior became more aggressive for a period of time. Eventually, the center addressed this by separating age groups more effectively, which we appreciated. *Billing, Payments, and Communication* We also encountered challenges with the payment system. The app and payment platforms are not well integrated, as they operate through separate systems. We experienced multiple issues with autopay and found it difficult to track an accurate balance. At one point, we were sent to collections for a payment we believed had already been made. Our statements did not clearly reflect a missed payment, and despite the issue allegedly occurring in March, we continued to make payments through June without any indication of a problem or interruption in services, which conflicted with stated policy. *Would We Choose Tutor Time Again?* Overall, every place has its ups and downs, many of which are situational. Despite the challenges we experienced, our son enjoyed the better moments there, and so did we. Tutor Time has strong potential, and I hope they receive the necessary resources to fully realize it.
