Well, here was an unexpected find in Lisbon's oldest neighborhood Alfama. Jamie W and I had made an 8PM reservation for a fado dinner show at O Corrido just up the street. We were an hour early and discovered this compact cocktail bar as a parking spot for our derrières. It definitely had tiki vibes between the palm tree wallpaper and menu offerings like Pina Colada and Sex on the Beach.
The place is run by an enterprising Indian immigrant named Ronny. We decided to order a pair of 8€ Espresso Martinis, which provided a suitably smooth start to our evening (Photo 9). As we were chatting with Ronny, he convinced me to try the 8€ Alfama Elixir, a signature cocktail of aged rum, lime juice, passionfruit, pineapple, and ginhinha, the locally renowned sour cherry liqueur (Photo 7).
It was a refreshing mix over ice and probably time to go but not before a complimentary Pastel de Nata shot (Photo 10). Yes, it was a liquid form of the legendary tart with cinnamon sprinkled on top. Good thing we were about to eat before the fado starts. Otherwise I might've warbled along only to be booed. Ronny was a good guy, and we were impressed that he moved from India and opened this unique bar.
