Best advice for any DMV visit: MAKE AN APPOINTMENT. Seriously--make an appointment!…read more Last month, I went with my husband to get his West Virginia driver's license (transferring from California). The DMV opens at 8:00 AM, but a line had already formed by the time we arrived at 7:55. We were about 20th in line--no appointment, just a walk-in. The whole process took close to TWO HOURS. Some employees were efficient and kept things moving, while others seemed to just wander around or take their time. Overall, service was slow, and honestly, most of the staff didn't seem too thrilled to be there. Now--fast forward to this morning when I went back to get my West Virginia Real ID. This time, I had made an appointment (booked two weeks in advance) for 9:00 AM. We got there at 8:16 AM and saw a long line again--probably 15+ people. But with an appointment, I just walked up, scanned the QR code at the entrance, and received a text with my ticket number almost immediately. I waited maybe 5 minutes before getting another text directing me to a specific station. The employee verified my documents, scanned and copied everything, took my photo, entered everything into the system, I paid the $45, and I was done. The entire process took less than 15 MINUTES! The difference an appointment makes is night and day. My only ongoing complaint is the same: the customer service could use some warmth. A few more smiles or a friendly tone would go a long way toward improving the experience--especially for those stuck in long lines without appointments.

This DMV is so wishy-washy I can't stand it. Made an appointment today, weeks ago too, to update my…read moreID now that I turned 21, and they're not open. I got a message saying they're closed and i understand that because of the weather, but it still says they're open on the map. Again, that could be an error happening on the map but I'm still disappointed that I couldn't even call them to talk to someone. It's a robot the whole time and they don't even offer customer service, and when you do click an option they just give you a summary about it and don't help with what you actually need. I'm tired of this office it's always the same, and clearly even with an appointment set or not.
