Friendly warning about this company: If we could give them negative stars, we would. Called several excavation companies and this one was the first available. First red flag, but we were desperate to get work done on our newly purchased land. So we hired Trevor Gough, the owner of TNG Excavation. We requested a pad be excavated for our pole barn and a road be put in up to the property. We sprayed a line into the hill for him to follow so that our pole barn could be offset and SE facing. When we saw the work, we discovered he hadn't followed the line we sprayed. It wasn't off that much so we let it go. Our pole barn faces almost directly south instead of SE. We're flexible, so we dealt with it.
Then, came the road. He gave us a verbal estimate of $1100 to put "the road" in. We had scheduled pit run and road mix to be delivered per the instructions of the recommended quarry in Emmett. After one full day of work, Trevor came back to us and said that he 'way underestimated the cost because it's a long road.' He wanted an additional $700 to complete. We okayed that and the next day he said he was done with the road. When we drove up to check it out, all that was put in was the pit run and it wasn't compacted. It looked like he dragged his blade over it, but did not compact it. He never used the road mix and, when we complained, he said that all we asked him to do was put in road mix. We have email proof that we wanted both pit run and road mix; we sent that proof to Trevor, but it was ignored. Instead, two days after sending us an invoice for unsatisfactory and incomplete work, he threatened to put a mechanic's lien on our property if we didn't pay immediately.
It appears this company doesn't care about the job they're doing; they just want money. We consulted with several contractors that saw the road; they all said, 'this guy didn't know what he was doing.' If he's such an expert, he would've known that roads need pit run AND road mix and each needs to be compacted to make a road. We had to spend a few thousand more dollars and many hours to get it to where anyone can even drive up the driveway.
This owner never tried to work anything out with us, nor did he try to fix his mistakes. He merely threatened us with a lien.
Do yourself a favor and get recommendations from friends, neighbors, anyone and patiently wait until those more knowledgeable and professional excavation companies are available. Lesson painfully learned for us! read more
