I was really excited to try Toast 101 with some friends for breakfast on Saturday morning (we got there around 9), and overall it was a good experience with a few minor hiccups. I originally wanted to order the donut flight, but they were out of donuts, which was a bit of a bummer especially on an early Saturday morning. I pivoted to the cinnamon roll board instead. The cinnamon rolls were amazing! The orange zest garnish instantly took me back to being a kid and loving those orange cinnamon rolls from the can, except these were next level and beautifully presented. The ooey gooey frosting topping was generously applies and so yummy! I also ordered the French Toast Flight and it was awesomely delish! I chose the New Yorker, the Nutella Overload, and the Banana Foster. The cheesecake on the New Yorker was chef's kiss. The Nutella Overload had the best granola garnish that added such a great texture. The Banana Foster with the maple rum butter spread and caramel drizzle was top tier. Everything came out on a really cool board that made it perfect for sharing so everyone at the table could try a little of each. I was especially impressed with the quality of the fruit. The strawberries were plump, juicy, and sweet, and the bananas were perfectly ripe and not mushy at all. The kitchen timing was a bit off, the rest of the table got their food but my board didn't come out until well after, so that could be improved on. Also a quick side note that I tried the biscuits off of a friends dish and they were really good. It was interesting because they're actually grilled or toasted on the grill and it made for a really tasty crunch. I was a little skeptical at first because of the size, but don't let that fool you and try them because they were tasty. The gravy was also pretty good not my absolute favorite, but it did the trick and the biscuits really made it shine. The interior has a cool vibe. I loved the faux green walls and the modern (and sometimes cheeky) decor. We were able to get a table right away because we went early, but the place filled up quickly and it's easy to see why. The food really is good. The exterior is a bit funky, peeling paint and faded signage and could use a bit of work. Service was so-so, our server was trying to be one of those funny/snarky personalities except it caused him to miss a lot of what we were saying...so lots of repeating and having to ask twice for things. He had accidentally entered and served an incorrect dish on one of the tickets at our table, and said he would remove it, but it was still on the bill when it came out. I appreciate personalities, but just a focus on the basics of service would have honestly made it a better experience. Overall, a decent experience with great food and just a couple issues. I would definitely go back, and next time I'm hoping to finally try that donut flight :) read more

This was a very disappointing experience. The food was mediocre at best and definitely not worth it. We ordered the avocado Mexican toast, and the bread was completely soggy. The California Eggs Benedict was no better--the bread was just as bad. The coffee was served cold. Service was just as frustrating. We felt rushed while eating, constantly being asked if we needed anything, yet when we actually needed a refill, it took about 15 minutes. The servers' attitude was not welcoming or attentive. On top of that, they charge an extra processing fee just for paying, which felt unreasonable given the poor experience. The food also took a long time to come out. We ordered the Corned Beef Hash, expecting something similar to the photo on the menu. Unfortunately, what we received looked and tasted exactly like canned corned beef hash. The presentation and texture were nothing like the restaurant's photo. When we mentioned this to our server, she initially said that maybe the recipe had changed. We explained that the dish didn't resemble the menu picture and seemed like canned food. She then said she would ask the chef, and later came back saying the chef told her it was "homemade." However, it really looked and tasted like the canned version. The most disappointing part was that we were not allowed to return the dish or have it removed from the bill, even though it clearly wasn't what we expected from a restaurant plate. On a positive note, the New Yorker French Toast we ordered was actually very good. However, the overall experience was frustrating. On top of everything, a processing fee was added to our bill, which made the situation even more disappointing. I came here last Saturday with some family and order the Carnitas skillet, which was amazing!! my husband got the country fried chicken and he liked that as well. Someone else at our table got the chorizo skillet which they did not prefer. I tasted it and it wasn't bad, but I felt they could have added some peppers, some egg, etc.... My skillet next to that one was so much more evolved and delicious. Our server had great energy and was fun, I can't remember his name though. The only disappointment came from the bacon Board trio, and which one of the bacon flavor seemed to be charred to oblivion. I almost didn't even seem like meat. I thought about sending it back but others at the table felt they could still eat it so I let it go. We decided to give Toast 101 a try last Sunday and were surprised how busy they were. We were after a simple breakfast but most of their items were their "specialty" dishes. We chose the 101 Stack which featured pancakes with whipped cream and strawberries. Our waitress, Da, accommodated my request for heated syrup (wish it was real maple) and provided an ample glass full. This dish really needed the syrup. We would taste rate the pancakes average for Tucson and filling given their ample size. Da was superlative in keeping our coffees full at all times and the coffee was a decent quality. I'd never been before. We arrived 30mins before closing and initially took a little bit more time than I'm used to waiting. Nonetheless our server came over and because we knew it was so close to closing we were ready with our drink and food orders. Our food was brought out within 10-15 mins of ordering. The plating as seen in my photos was amazing and added to the overall experience. The overall taste was even better! Great place for brunch. The restaurant itself is modern and open, they have lots of seating and booths (which I love). Their menu is huge, and they serve both breakfast and lunch options all day. Plus they have many brunch drinks, next time I want to try their pickle Bloody Mary and Cinnamon Toast Crunch shot. I had the veggie skillet with bacon, and my boyfriend got their cook try skillet. At first glance, the interior was cute and trendy. Once seated, you realize you're having to lean over the table because of how high the stools are with no place to put your feet. A hidden gem within Tucson, 'Toast 101' provides freshly made meals that will leave you with tears of joy. I learned about this place simply by driving past it one day, and thought, "Let's try that out!" The exterior didn't seem that fancy; in fact, it gave off an old, family-owned vibe, but this made me hopeful. Sometimes, the places that don't look fancy are the local's picks for best food. This location is by Mission Plaza, Sprouts Farmers Market, & Banfield Pet Hospital. The parking lot also has a lot of space, at least in the mornings, so you don't have to be concerned with fighting for a spot. I have visited twice so far to have breakfast, with both times having nobody at the front to greet me. However, I forgive this because I also arrived very early, so there wasn't a crowd that required a greeter. Besides, the people that would be my greeter noticed me shortly after I entered and brought me to my seat. They handed me my menu and were very attentive to my needs throughout my stay. The seating is nice & spacious, with lots of booths for large groups. The atmosphere feels bright and there's music that plays, mostly old tunes like "You Don't Own Me" by: Lesley Gore and "I Love You Baby" by: Frank Sinatra. Between the two visits, I tried four kinds of french toast, including their 'Oreo Bliss, Fruity Pebbles Delight, Nutella Overload, & New Yorker.' I also tried two of their skillets, and of course, some fresh orange juice on the side. Every single meal was Heaven! The french toasts are especially eye-grabbers, as when my French Toast Flight was brought to my table, the only other guests at the time asked my waitress what I ordered. Each dish is so colorful, and hefty with syrups & whipped cream. You will be leaving there with a to-go box. Also, to note, I shared the flight (which contains three different french toast) with one other person who can down a lot of food, but I would highly recommend that you only order the flight if you have four people minimum at your table. The sight of it is super intimidating. The skillets were great as well; I really fought between a bite of the sweet and savory during my visits because they're equally amazing. The potatoes are crispy, eggs fluffy, & if you get one with meat, it's well cooked. Seriously, I would come here as often as I can to try their whole menu! I recommend this to anybody: singles, couples, families, young, elder. Anyone is welcomed except for those who want to manage their calorie intact, because I hate to say it, but you wouldn't be able to resist their wonderful meals and keep your diet in control. Sunday brunch here was totally a hit with the family! Their dished are generous, super delicious, and served fresh and hot. Our food took a little while to be served but maybe because it was Sunday. Nevertheless, it was well worth the wait! They have a huge open window into the kitchen and that entertained the kids during the wait so it didn't feel too bad. I ordered bacon and eggs. Wanted the whites cooked and the yolk runny. What I got was runny whites and yolks. Whe the waitress came by I mentioned that I got the opposite of what I ordered. She offered another 2 eggs. This one came back with hard yolks and would have used a knife to cut through the whites but I don't eat hard cooked egg whites that are brown. I took my kids here on a whim to fuel up before an afternoon at Wild Katz just across the street. I knew they closed in about an hour, but we would be a quick in and out service. Right off the bat, loved the ambiance in the restaurant, it truly feels totally different than what you'd expect from the outside. It has a really fun vibe with great decor. We were seated quickly, though a couple that arrived after us was provided menus and served beverages before us. This always irks me...we were there first, we were ready to order, and were ignored. It seemed as though someone from the kitchen noticed us and came out to get our order, which I appreciated, they were very friendly and they got our order correct without writing it down (always makes me nervous when they don't write it down). The food came out rather quickly and was quite good. My iced coffee was so good I wish I could have taken it in a to-go cup! I had a classic breakfast of eggs, sausage, and potatos, and it hit the spot. Can't go wrong. We came into Toast 101 to kill some time while our truck was being serviced. The ambience was lovely with the interior dripping with beautiful leaves and flowers, natural light flowing throughout . It was our first time stumbling into this hidden gem. Da was our server and she was very sweet and provided an excellent dining experience. My Husband ordered the biscuits and gravy, which was a generous portion and did not disappoint. I ordered the seasonal pumpkin pancakes that were not only beautifully presented, but, deliciously balanced with roasted pumpkin, candied pecans, whipped cream, and pumpkin purée. What a treat. I am a Belgian waffle snob and I hate getting one at a restaurant that is subpar. This however was not the case when I DoorDashed a beautiful Belgian waffle from Toast 101. It is a bit far from my work, but it was still warm and toasty when it got to me-and man, was it delicious. It was really rich and had some good substance to it. I didn't even have to put too much syrup on it because the flavor was slightly sweet and good. I opted for blueberries on mine and they were nice and fresh and sweet. I got a side of bacon, and it was perfectly cooked and a nice Smokey flavor. I look forward to dining in sometime, as it's closer to my home than my work. As far as the food is concerned, it's everything done right. The kind of place where you wish nobody was looking so you can lick your plate clean. Nice and bright meets a cheerful comfort, food palette. I loved the decor and atmosphere of the restaurant. Though they were low on staff. the two servers did everything they possibly could to make sure that each table was taken care of. We had the hangover skillet and the banana fosters French toast. Neither my daughter, or I could decide which dish we loved more. We savored every bite and delighted in the flight of mimosas that we had; which were... Pineapple, orange, Tiffany blue, and my favorite, the prickly pear. I highly recommend this place if you're on the east side of town. My friend and I stopped at Toast 101 for a post-hike brunch, and -- while we felt a smidge grubby for the scene -- we enjoyed our meal! We went for a combination of sweet and savory items: we each started with a Matcha Latte (5 stars, absolutely recommend), then shared both the Country Fried Chicken and French Toast Flight. The Matcha Latte was deliciously sweet and creamy, but still retained the slightly earthy tea flavor that I enjoy. The Country Fried Chicken was a huge dish of fried chicken smothered in gravy, with biscuits, potatoes, and eggs. We attacked it with post-trail appetites, and even shared, it was super filling. The seasoning was very good on the chicken and potatoes, and the biscuits were nice and fluffy. Despite being super full from the fried chicken, we couldn't resist the French toasts we'd selected for our flight: Nutella Overload (strawberries, granola, and nutella), The New Yorker (cheesecake with graham crackers and strawberries), and Oreo Bliss (oreos on oreos on oreos). Friends, be prepared for a sugar coma after these French toasts, or better yet, share one order amongst the table as a dessert. They're delicious, but SO SO SO sweet. We enjoyed all three toasts, but the Nutella Overload was probably my favorite, in part because the fresh strawberries cut through some of that cloying sweetness. The food is four-star, but the service was pretty rough. We waited an extremely long time for our food. I went back and forth on 3 versus 4 stars for this one, and I'm going with 4 because our server worked so hard to make things better! She repeatedly came and checked in with us while we waited for our meal, and even brought us each a free second latte to apologize for the length of the wait. I appreciated that a lot! read more
