Review #888 2025-060 Food Order: Americana (3 soft scrambled eggs, Nueskies bacon, American cheese, aioli, chives) $13.00 El Valiente (3 soft scrambled eggs, chorizo, cheddar, refritos, pico de gallo, chipotle aioli, cilantro, scallion) $13.00 Tots $5.00 Strawberry Hibiscus Lemonade $5.00 Parking: street only (watch out for time restrictions); if you're facing south on Hawthorne Blvd., there's plenty of island parking, but you have to cross the busy street Toast & Yolk operates as a ghost kitchen with 70+ other restaurants in the Picnic Digital Foods Court (refer to Review #889); there's 13 additional restaurants either temporarily closed or pending opening. To order for pick-up or delivery, you can either use their app: Picnic Foods or go online. This is the first that I've seen/experienced a large scale restaurant co-op, modernizing the traditional food hall experience. It's easy with no live person interaction... unless you need it like I did on my 1st order. I ordered for pick-up & was given a 10-min. ETD. There's no parking lot & found a space around the corner, & arrived on the dot. Upon entering, I see some kiosks, a bunch of lockers, & limited counter seating that I realize Toast & Yolk is not a standard sit-down restaurant. Luckily, there was a woman at the only window counter, & she explained that I can check-in to confirm my arrival on the kiosk, which will also notify the kitchen, provide status of your order, & indicate which locker contains your order (when ready). And mine was still pending. I've been here a few times & my initial order's timing was totally off by another 20-mins. whereas the others were closer to the ETD. It's pretty cool & unique! Go to the kiosk to either place your order, or scan/enter the order code & the door will automatically open if your order's ready... so efficient & hygienic! For my newbie visit, my order was unusually delayed for some reason, the server called me from the window when it was ready. The bag was sealed & pipin' hot, & my lunch was still hot after a 15-min. drive to the office. Everything was neatly packaged/arranged & no spills, including my drink; it also included a note to "spin the wheel & redeem your prize at Picnic (I won a free drink)." I rushed to snap pics & unwrapped this deliciousness! How could you not? With these tantalizing scents teasing my senses. The sandwich looked average in size & filling felt just right, yet it's soooooo satisfying to the palate & any hunger pangs! The Texas toast is thick & soft, nicely toasted & holds the filling in from start to finish. It's stuffed with perfectly soft scrambled eggs & perfectly melted cheese, thick cuts of crisp hickory smoked bacon. The aioli binds & marries the flavors together, adding umami & citrusy profiles to taunt your taste buds, with a sprinkling of chives to complement & add contrast to the spread. The tots are perfectly fried & salted just right, giving a nice crunch & fluffy tender inside with every bite. And lastly, I quenched my thirst with a strawberry hibiscus lemonade... a perfectly refreshing balance of sweet, fruity strawberry with floral, tart notes of hibiscus, & tangy zest of lemon citrus. Yes, I'm using 'perfect' way too much, but that's just what it was -- perfect. I also tried El Valiente on a subsequent visit because I'm all about heat, & while it's not high on the Scoville scale, the sandwich certainly packs a punch on flavor! Toast & Yolk hits another home run on execution & taste!! It's a compact menu with moderate prices that's executed well (at least my orders were), consisting of sandwiches, toasts, salads/bowls, extras (sides), & drinks. I haven't found anything in the South Bay quite like Toast & Yolk in terms of offerings (really, really fantabulously satisfying breakfast sandwiches!) & execution. Technically, there's no "live" service provided since you're basically interacting with the kiosk, then locker; if you consider the order timing, then it's pretty much on the mark except for the 1st visit. If you can't tell, I absolutely love, love, love Toast & Yolk... definitely worth repeating/revisiting again & again!!! It's eggs-actly what you crave! Highly Recommended: Americana & El Valiente Sandwiches, Tots, Strawberry Hibiscus Lemonade!!

Found this place on Yelp and wanted to try their loaded breakfast toast. I ordered to go, and got their El Valiente toast. I liked the packaging that the toast comes in, I think it was cute. It even had a hard plastic film that went over the toast to prevent particles from getting into the toast (I think). The toast itself was good (3/5), but it was hard to eat. I wasn't a fan of the minced chorizo on the toast and the egg was okay. The toast was honestly hard to eat since it was such a big toast with a lot going on. It took me a couple of bites of the toast before I got to the actual meat of it. The bottom half of the toast was really soggy unfortunately, which I didn't like. The toast also came with hot sauce and a chipotle aioli sauce which was good, but without the sauce, I thought the toast was mid. I think I would have had to eat this toast in person at the store as oppose to taking it to go to prevent that it got soggy because the top portion of the toast was actually good, crispy and fluffy. Maybe if the toast slice was a bit thinner, then it wouldn't have been so hard to get a perfect bite, but I was making a mess trying to eat this.

You pick up from a ghost kitchen. The pick up was easy. The packaging the sandwich came in was cute. I ordered the "El Valiente" and it was okay. I would rate it 3/5. Tbh the toast is thick and too buttery for me. I also ordered the Biscoff Iced Coffee. The coffee didn't even look like the photos on the website- no cold foam, didnt taste like biscoff. I would rate it 2/5. Both the sandwich and coffee came out to $23.21. I won't order again. *** UPDATE: According to the owner, substituting oat milk replaces the cold foam. However, this wasn't stated anywhere on the website when placing the order.

    Smothered chicken breast
    Andy L.

The food was amazing, so delicious! Definitely coming back for more. Got the lobster avocado, smothered chicken breast, tater tot, and churro waffles. I loved the smothered chicken breast the most, the gravy on the chicken breast was so good that I still think about it. Lobster avocado was delicious. Good portion of lobster. The tater tots and churro waffle was the cherry on the top for me to finish up the meal with wife. Amazing job chef! Everyone should come check out this restaurant for some great brunch to go. Take it home or get it delivered to enjoy some good brunch.

GHOST KITCHEN. We ordered 2 coffees from this "store" 17$ for 80% ice. It's small sized so not worth your buck. The flavor was there but it being done after 3 sips... not great... There's is no server/service as it's just an order pick up and go. It was confusing walking in as I didn't know you had to order ahead online or they have a single kiosk in the hottest corner of the "store". Inside was small they have lockers you pick your food up in inside was very HOT. No ac and no type of air flow.

    Americana
    Leani R.

Came here to try it out, it is a to go type of place so don't plan to eat there. It was a bit pricey but was very filling. I couldn't finish it at all, definitely shareable. Flavors were pretty good. I would try again, there's not much service inside as you order through a tablet and they just hand to you. But overall definitely an interesting place.

    The Americana and Tots

SO GOOD! I got the Americana. It's huge and the Tots were crispy! I'll be eating there again and again.

When ever I'm in the LA area I must hit my favorite spot Toast & Yolk and they never disappoint. Saturday I tried the new shaved Brussel Cesar salad I added bacon, cause why not? It was delicious and filling. Next time I get the salad, I plan on adding their homemade chicken tenders to my salad. I also had to get the New Peach cobbler toast before the season is over. Who can pass up peach cobbler? Omg... life changing! Of course I can't leave there without my strawberry hibiscus lemonade. I checked in shortly after noon and expected to wait a bit because it was lunch time, but to my surprise my food was out in 15 min. Which is really fast for made to order. I'll be back‼

Mung bean egg sandwich, and dirty chai
    J. W.

I Door Dashed the mung bean vegan egg sandwich and it blew my expectations. The sandwich was so huge I could only eat half. It was very rich (w/added avocado) and the mung bean egg was incredible and better than real eggs (industry is cruel to chickens) . Can't wait to try it in a bowl.

First time here! Definitely stopping by again! My order was on time and hot when I picked it up! The food had great flavor!

    Chicken & waffle sandwich
    Randi N.

I was definitely rooting for this chicken & waffle sandwich but I was really disappointed. Everything tasted microwaveable. The waffles seem to be Eggo waffles and the chicken seems to be frozen chicken strips. I'm not quite crossing this place off just yet, just wouldn't get this sandwich again. Also the place should have instruction on how to order because I was really confused walking in, one of the customers there had to show me how to order.

This place is a must-try! Every element of the toastie was exceptional and played together so well. The eggs are so fluffy-- definitely see how the Vietnamese egg-drop was the inspiration. Loved it, and excited to try the other very creative items on the menu.

Super laid back great spot to grab breakfast with friends and family or even impress that one foodie friend you haven't seen in a while! Now to the food! Fantastic so good prob the best avocado I've ever had ngl I've had some good ones but yeah wasn't overly sweet either had a great balance truly enjoyed this one! I also ordered a Breakfast croissant, well because I'm a foodie, which was absolutely delicious! Super flakey croissant with egg, cheese, lettuce, tomato, bacon, spicy mayo. Egg and bacon cooked just right all the flavors came together like a perfect bite every time. Even the tomato was red and brought a nice touch to the whole sandwich. The waitress was super busy as she was the only one running the front. She crushes it I've seen bigger restaurants struggle with more staff and less people. Thank you so much for letting change tables mid dinning to sit outside is the sun!!! This place was DEAD when my friend and I went here at around 5PM on a Sunday. It wasn't a big place…read moreat all and it looked like you could order at a kiosk and have your food ready to-go, so maybe eating in isn't their specialty? I don't know, but this place had a big menu and decent reviews so we chose to hit up this spot. The vibes in here were super laid back. There was only one woman who we saw working which was also the hostess and everyone else's server, which was just us and another woman to tables away from us. We had a difficult time choosing something to order since the menu was so diverse. Everything from croffle ice cream, to clam chowder, to a full Thai menu. I saw banh mi on the menu and instantly knew I had to order it since I've never tried it before. So, I ordered the chicken meatball banh mi sandwich with a side salad (removing the jalapeño and spicy mayo). My friend ordered a Thai iced coffee and the pineapple curry. The food came out relatively quickly. My friend enjoyed her Thai iced coffee, but she said she wished she'd ordered the Thai tea instead. She also really liked her pineapple curry, and it came out piping hot. I tried it and it was super spicy, so not for me, but she really enjoyed it. My banh mi sandwich was interesting. Right off the bat, it was 75% bread. The bread wasn't bad. In fact, it was chewy and not tough to tear into, but the sandwich itself was mostly bread. There were only like three meatballs in the sandwich, which were cut in half, and I feel like there wasn't anything special about the meatballs. If I was blindfolded, I would think they were the Great Value frozen meatballs in a bag from Walmart. The pickled cabbage was nice though, even if the mixture made the entire bottom of the sandwich soggy af (but I like soggy bread so it was fine with me). I tore most of the bread off and left it on the plate. The side salad dressing also spilled onto the sandwich and contributed to the soggy bread. Now that I'm looking at the photo I took of the sandwich, there wasn't much cilantro on there at all. The pickled cabbage was at the very bottom buried in between all the bread.

I stopped in on a Tuesday for lunch and knew I was going to get the curry puffs. The last time I ordered these I was with a friend and had to share but not this time. I was on a solo lunch and looking forward to the puffs! To say they are "perfect" seems insufficient. They were fried incredibly well, hot, crunchy, tasty, but never greasy. And these little puffs were filled with minced beef, potatoes, and seasoning! For my main dish, I chose the dragon noodles (pad thai) with chicken. All the veggies in the dish were cooked perfectly, nothing too mushy, just the right amount of crunch/bite to the cabbage, broccoli, and carrots. And the chicken was chunky! And while I loved everything about the dish, the sprinkling of the crushed peanuts was *chef's kiss*. There's no skimping on those peanuts here.
