Couldn't fault the place. On a cold, rainy, miserable post Christmas day, my friend and I had…read morewalked around the sales and couldn't find anywhere to eat without waiting a year to eat. Fed up and hungry, I'd heard good things about this place, so we decided to check it!!! Oh my.. Best decision EVER!! They had a three course lunch offer on, but being just after Christmas, we couldn't manage a feast, so opted for a course each! In hindsight, great decision, because we both left nursing a food baby! I went for the salmon with vegetables.. Oh my WORD!! A massive fillet of pink salmon.. Mmmm hmm! Heaven on a plate. It was served with a couple of roast potatoes and then a side plate of vegetables, cooked to perfection. For £10.95.. Ok it's not cheap for Stoke standards, but damn was it good! My friend went for the sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce! She was speechless with excitement the steak was enormous and a full 10oz.. Cooked just the way she asked for.. It came with onion rings, chips and salad.. It was man vs food.. Lol! It came to £19, which for Stoke is obviously expensive but when you consider what she got, if it was in London, it would be seriously double the price! Insane!! Decor wise it's a converted church which is super cool and downstairs in the bar, they have super comfy sofas and seating. I'd say if you live in Stoke, it's gotta be on your list for your next special occasion!

The restaurant is on street entry level and then the bar and toilets are in the basement. It's an impressive building and the bar is cosy but cool. Access would be an issue with anyone who couldn't negotiate a steep narrow staircase to get the loo! In the main the food is just ok, nothing special, just ok. However, the desserts trolley is well impressive! Unfortunately the staff are all young girls without much of a clue (or they were when we went). They weren't very helpful and didn't seem that bright.

Once inside and seated, the waitress took our orders and told us to help ourselves to the salad bar. It was a decent salad bar, not overly large but large enough to get a varied salad. The side bar had a selection of dressings, butter, croutons and rolls. No Ranch dressing, but they did have bleu cheese. The Scot had ordered a hamburger topped with a fancy french cheese and chutney, I'd ordered their chicken and rib platter, just to see how they did on barbecue. It didn't appear to be that busy, but the food seemed to take a while to come out. When it came out it was good. The Scot said his burger was rich, especially the cheese, which was super ooey-gooey. My chicken was juicy and the ribs were good, but not fantastic. But the fries.. OMW the fries were perhaps the best I've ever had. They were triple cooked I think with a sage seasoning on them. Absolutely to die for.

The decor features natural earth tones with lots greenery and candlelight and the aroma ( a proprietary scent crafted specifically for them) is so lush. Don't worry though, it's not overpowering at all. Their sharing plates feature tantalizing yet not unfamiliar ingredient combos. You can order two or three to enjoy with wine. Pro tip for white wine drinkers: their pinot grigio is crisp and looovely! Portions are "just enough" so if you're starving and it's lunch time, a main course plus a sharing plate will do the trick. Service is amazing. Attentive and friendly but not obsequious (gahhh I cringe when waitstaff are cheesy). Definitely going to visit them again. Well-deserved five stars!

Service can be a bit lacking at busy times as bar staff seem to double up as waiters/waitresses but on the whole it's worth a try as the food is all home cooked and of a high standard. Having been here for a meal before, I had been quite impressed with the carvery, which offered a good value meal with a choice of meats and vegetables. Its position in Festival Park made it a good place to eat I was visiting the nearby cinema or Waterworld. On my last visit, I brought a friend, which was unfortunate, given what was to come. We walked into a restaurant full of happy diners chomping away. The carvery was all laid out and looking appetizing. We decided to go for the carvery and were told that due to staff shortage, the carvery was closed. I offered to carve the meat myself and was told I wasn't allowed to do so. Then, when we said we would order from the main menu, we were told there would be no food from there either. It was 1.15pm. On the way out, we were passed by diners on the way in. We watched them get seated and then served from the carvery. Hmm. Not sure what it all means. Except for a one star review from me.

I went Sunday with my lady and visiting friends. We were told it was a 30 min wait which was fine as there was seating outside to while away the minutes. We didn't end up having to wait that long though which was a nice surprise. We were seated in a booth close to the carvery and everything smelled wonderful, we ordered some drinks but had to ask again 10 minutes later but I will let them off as it was busy. The meal itself was lovely, would have been nice to see more of a variety of veg (mainly mash, cauliflower and carrots) some peas, sweetcorn or similar to color the plate would have been great. My major complaint was the crackling which I think I chipped a tooth on. It was so hard it was dangerous! I pointed it out to the waitress but it was laughed of a little. I would hope that was just a one off though Overall a good value experience with just a few niggles, just don't go hoping for anything unique as food wise I have had better for a similar price. Very nice location though.
