This Manila branch seems to emphasize their dedication to seeking out high quality and sustainable beans through direct trade and from all over the world. The coffee shop itself is setup to be study friendly however I noticed that they didn't have any Wifi. Data connection is also not reliable as the location in Salcedo Village, Makati is surrounded by towering skyscrapers and condos. The food seems to be of the Western/ Italian fare with some traditional baked goods in the display case. Their latte art was phenomenal; their coffee drinks were bold and velvety in texture. I did welcome the healthier choices present on the menu. The *Smoked Salmon & Greens* (php 340), while very white washed, was refreshing and protein rich. I found Toby's to be the perfect place to sit with a book, and thoroughly enjoyed the fantastic atmosphere in addition to the highly acclaimed coffee. As a telecommuter, most of my work days are spent in coffee shops. There is something about the activity inside a coffee shop that just wakes me up and gets me in the mood for productivity. Maybe it's the smell of coffee that perks me up Maybe its the infectious activity around me. Maybe it's the motivation to work that is actually brought about by actually getting up from my bed, dressing up and dragging my butt out to a local coffee shop. I can only get tired of the usual coffee shops that I frequent in Quezon City, that's why one time, I decided to go all the way to Makati so that I could finally visit Toby's Estate. I love this coffee shop. The interiors are great, the ambiance is just perfect for a day's work, the coffee is awesome, the service is okay, etc. etc... One major drawback, though, is that they don't have WiFi. What's worse is that their location in the middle of the tall buildings make it impossible to get a good 3G signal on your cellphone or mobile WiFi device, so if you intend to stay here and work, don't expect to get much done if you need an Internet connection. You are better off at The Widlflour next door, where they have good and reliable internet. read more

I'm fussy about coffee and I think this place has superb lattes! Today I noticed some new pastry items like carrot cake and Bruce Bogtrotter (chocolate cake, I suspect). I love how this place always seems to have seats and tables are placed far apart. Air conditioning is also good which is a big plus in a tropical climate. Ventilation is good, there's no cooked food smell that could stick to your clothes unlike the place next door. read more

If you appreciate the true Italian espresso and its different types, then Toby's is the right place for you. This classy café set in "Leviste Food Street, Salcedo Village, is the place where I had the best cup of espresso in town. I recommend the single espresso, served with the right volume in cup, following the Italian tradition. Toby's espresso is rich in taste and aroma, with a really velvety texture. The quality is noticed not only in the taste, but also in the coffee presentation. They do simply the best latte art I've seen in Manila. To check it out, try the Cappuccino or the Chai Chocolate (Php 160). I specially recommend the latter for those who are tired of common hot chocolate, once their chai chocolate has the exact amount of spices and sweetness. For dessert, the must-try is the pistachio cheesecake. Besides taking coffee preparation as an art, Toby's has an impressive interior design, with modern chairs, black and white pallete, demolition wood walls, cage lamps etc. All those details certainly give the place a cosmopolitan and cool atmosphere. Conversation-disrupting coffee. I was talking animatedly with a friend as we ate our salad and respective dinners in Toby's Salcedo. And then my Long Black came and took a sip and ..l had to stop what I was saying, because I had then remarked, "Ang sarap naman neto!" I am not a coffee connoisseur but I know the coffee taste that I like. Toby's is gooood. I have since dined there several times and everything I've eaten there so far are superb. It's funny that Toby's Estate is just a few steps away from where I used to get plastered almost every day as a young(er) man. 121 is right there, but instead of ducking into my old haunt and reminiscing the carefree days of yesteryear, I found myself just shaking my head and smiling at the memory, then taking my wife's hand and stepping into the respectable interiors of Toby's Estate instead. As far as good places to have coffee go, you could a heck of a lot worse. At Toby's, you get good food (their grilled four-cheese is heavenly), and boy, do they know their coffee. From the roast (it's not too bitter but still packs a punch!) to the latte art, you can be sure your caffeine fix is in capable hands. My days of gin and pomelo juice 'til 3 in the morning may be behind me, but if it's good company at places like Toby's that replaces them, I really don't mind. read more

Walking into the Toby's Estate establishment in Salcedo Village made me feel as if I were in a cafe like New York City. My first time at Toby's Estate I ended up ordering three different kinds of dessert because it was way too late to be ordering coffee. My friends and I agree, everything on their dessert menu is divine! Especially their dessert called Bucky's ala Mode which is served with a scoop of Carmen's Best Ice Cream.... Pure bliss. Their standard brewed coffee is all very well, but my favorite caffeinated drink from theirs is the 'Gibraltar' which is not in their menu. It is simply delicious. YOU HAVE TO TRY IT. Toby's Estate is the local franchise of a well-known Australian coffeeshop. This particular branch is the flagship outlet, and is sufficiently spacious enough for a relaxing meal without worrying about literally rubbing elbows with the people in the next table. The coffee is excellent. My favorite is an off-the-menu item called the Gibraltar, which is a double ristretto that tastes amazing and provides more than enough caffeine to fuel a few hours more work or play. The food is great as well. Prioritizing hearty dishes over fancy fare, the taste satisfies (as it should, given the average price). The desserts are a welcome and fitting end to any meal, and go well with the coffee should you be in the mood for a snack instead. Smoking is allowed in the outdoor section, which has limited seats compared to the air-conditioned coolness of the interior. The neighborhood can be a bit noisy and dusty during the day, given that it is in the heart of the Central Business District. At night, when most offices are empty, the ambient sounds drop to a level that is conducive for even whispered conversation. read more

I love everything about this Toby's Estate branch. Seriously. My only concern before is that their alfresco area was sorely lacking, only having a couple of chairs and tables but now that they've significantly improved (by adding some nice potted plants and planters for demarkation!), I can't complain. Their coffee is always on point, and their Buckys are the perfect dessert accompaniment to any of their coffee blends. I love how Toby's menu is fairly straightforward, with none of the blended frappucinos or whatever sugary concotions that other famous brand-cafes swear by. Good, honest coffee that only has milk and sugar as its accompaniment. (And in my opinion, that's the only way coffee should be taken.) So I'm a bit of a coffee purist. (Though to be honest, I am more of a tea person!) This branch also has a more extensive food menu. (While their other two branches in Century City and SM Aura, only serve buckys and waffles, respectively) And it's super pricy! I had some grilled cheese (for an inhuman amount of pesos!) that's only about 5 x 5 inches of bread... While the cheese is really good, as are the chips that came with, it's the first time I've eaten grilled cheese that... tiny. (And expensive!) Other dishes on their menu are similarly expensive-- so really, while they use really high quality ingredients, I would suggest going for some coffee and buckys brownies instead... And for those with dogs, they're absolutely welcome to go inside! Small dogs only, though. These guys definitely know how to make a good coffee. I wasn't expecting much travelling through town and just finding Starbucks. I would personally rather drink water than to get anything from Starbucks. But then I find this place! They use their own roastery and have an amazing espresso machine. The baristas, you can tell definitely care about the quality of their drinks and offer beautifully created drinks with latte art. I'm a fan of Toby's Estate after my first patronage. read more

I love the vibe at Toby's Estate. I've spent lots of time here for work and leisure. Since its location is pretty central, it's a very convenient place to have meetings in. I haven't tried the food of the restaurant yet but I've heard good feedback about it. The egg dishes are a must try. Aside from the food, they also have a good red and white wine selection. Another plus is that they also serve beer. But the main reason I really love going to Toby's Estate is because I'm a big fan of their coffee. I love their Flat White or Long Black. My family and I would always drop by the place at night for dessert after going out. Their coffee menu is very simple to pick from, and the baristas are more than happy to explain them to you as well as provide additional information. I appreciated this warm, welcoming feeling because I'm pretty curious with these kinds of things. I would have expected this global chain to offer it at least! The other great thing about this place is that they have what I like to call, brunch food. There aren't many places in town that do this well. And the food here is really good. They have awesome toasts (foie gras and cheese), pastas, and salads. Cafes have been really trendy nowadays. It has now been a common hang out spot for many of us, including myself. I think it's really the vibe that draws me towards wanting to stay at a cafe. It's not as formal as a restaurant. If you live around the Salcedo Village Area, then I'm pretty jealous that you're near nice hip places! One of the hip places to grab coffee and food is Toby's Estate located in LP Leviste Street. This is a bigger version of the first branch they had in Century City Mall. I quite like the set up here more since there are actual chairs and tables for dining. Food wise though, it was okay for me. Nothing really caught my attention. I got to try the iced coffee which was pretty good. It was refreshing! I split the Traviata with my best friend. It's this skillet dish with 2 eggs, tomato compote, grilled cherry tomatoes, arugula, and basil oil. It's all baked in the oven. We both wanted to feel healthy so we also the Paysanne Salad (although there was bacon bits here so its wasn't super duper healthy). Overall I like the ambiance more than the food. read more

It's impossible to pass a street without spotting a Starbucks, a Coffee Bean, or some other chain coffee place. There's been a rise in "artisinal" coffee joints in Metro Manila, however strange the application of that word may be for cafes that get their coffee beans from supermarkets. Lovers of the former enjoy convenience and accessibility; the patrons of the latter subscribe to the idea of personal brews and small batches. Toby's Estate lands somewhere in the middle, neither big coffee nor independent espresso. It helps that it's a restaurant, too. Their stark white walls and woody furniture give it a homey feel, while the open and well lit floor area is welcoming. It's difficult to miss when you pass it by, and I enjoyed their shredded beef sandwich--though their crusty brown bread may be too hard for some. Unfortunately, I've no opinion on the coffee since I don't drink it, yet I still find myself visiting from time to time just to smell the brew. read more
