My friend and I were on our way home from Bart and we wanted to get some milk tea. We were looking at new places and this one popped up. Though it was a bit of a drive, we got here through the light rain. Inside is very spacious and there is a little claw machine to play and also a chair to take pictures against a wall of flowers. They also have some snacks such as Vietnamese sandwiches, but we only got drinks. Peach and Strawberry Green Tea: I got this at 50% sweet and 25% Ice. I also added agar/crystal boba to it. Overall, it was just okay. It had a strong presence of tea, but almost no flavor of strawberry or peach. No matter how much I kept sipping through my straw, I got no fruit flavors whatsoever. If I wanted green tea, then this is my drink for sure, since I can taste the flavor very well, but for the fruit flavors, it was completely absent. The agar boba was there mainly for texture for me. I'm really bummed that this place seems to have gone down hill. I want to support them so badly. I hope this review will help motivate change. I put an order on Saturday for sandwiches, a tea, and some fried tofu. One one person was staffed and clearly tasked to do prep work and not able to see when orders come in so had no idea an order had even been placed. We were then told sandwiches were not available. I was then informed one of the tea toppings was not available. The tofu was good, but the portion size has shrunk and now very expensive for what you get. :( My drink was fine, but we made the walk over so we would also have food for lunch. They ended up losing out on over half of what I was going to pay just by not having sandwiches available and having to refund me. Due to only one person being staffed, Toco Tea lost business additional business. I watched another possible client come in, wait for a few minutes, and then decide to leave seeing how long it was taking to put her iced coffee order in. This has happened to me in the past too, seeing it wasn't worth waiting an unknown amount of time due to a single staffed person trying to keep up with an order. Just a few changes with staffing, consistent menu, and portion sizes could probably make a huge difference in patronage from your local community and I imagine profits. read more

It was our first time coming to this place and we can say that it will also be the last. The service was bad and the girl on the cashier was playing on her phone and only stopped when she took our order. We weren't even acknowledged or welcomed when we came in. The place was spacious, but it looked like it was prepping to close down, although they weren't. It was messy and the plastic flower decorations smelled of old, dusty plastic. They also still had old decorations from Thanksgiving and Christmas. When it was time for us to order, they practically didn't have anything available that we wanted to order. Every time we say what particular food item or drink we wanted, the girl taking our order would say they don't have it. Mind you, their menu said it was. So, we ordered what was available and waited patiently. When we received it, we were shocked and disappointed because it didn't look like what their menu pictured it. I went back to the cashier area and told another lady there that it wasn't the food we ordered because it didn't resemble anything like the one on the menu. She said to check it and it should. Obviously we took a picture to make the comparison, clearly. It tasted so bland and you can taste the oil they used which was OLD OIL! You can literally taste the other food that was fried in it too. I had to take mine home, Tiramisu milk tea, and diluted it. I got a total of three out of that one cup. My friends drink, Peach & passion fruit, was also high in sugar. So it was not just my drink. And btw, there menu posted by the cashier and on their entrance started that the milk tea can be served hot or cold. L I E. The server was nice to make it warm for me but that's about it - it's more like tepid. But thank you for c trying. Place: overall this place is spacious with a cute ambiance. Pretty decent boba shop in the neighborhood! Parking lot is very small so be advised you may have to park in the neighborhood next to this plaza. They have a great selection, plenty of space to study or catch up with a friend, as well as an aesthetic wall to take pics. Service is usually fast and friendly. Just note towards the end of the night they will run out of boba, and don't come here after school hours! My 13-year old and I came here for a quick little boba date. This place must be new because I never noticed it before but they've been open for about a year now. We walked in and it's just hella cute. They had two walls that were set up for photo ops and one wall had a cute cocoon chair, but you weren't allowed to sit on it. So much for teasing me! For drinks, I ordered a macchiato cream cheese black tea with boba, and my son ordered the crème brûlée brown sugar boba with a waffle. As we waited, we chose a sunny location next to the window and I told him that he should always sit facing the door for safety (it's the city in me that I need to pass along my street smarts to my suburban-raised son). I drive by this place almost every time I go out but have never been here so today I decided to stop here out of curiosity. It's a Boba tea place with lots of different drinks, milk teas, fruit teas traditional teas and snacks. I had a Matcha milk tea and it was a tad too sweet for me even with the sugar level at 50%. Next time I will ask for absolutely no sweeteners. The people here are very friendly, personable, efficient and the service was great. The place is very clean, spacious and roomy. There is a wall covered with flowers (artificial) that gives a nice feel to the place. For a Boba Tea shop, the drinks were sadly not good. We tried the Japanese Milk Tea and the Passionfruit Green Tea. Both had an extremely strong tea flavor that was off putting, with sweetness added in for flavoring. The fries were good, but the "popcorn chicken" were just chicken nuggets which were super disappointing. There would be 3 workers behind the counter and maybe 2-3 people waiting for their drinks and it would take them more than 30 minutes to get the drinks made. They don't accept phone orders either, so we can't expedite our pickup time. He really seemed like he didn't want to be there or making my drinks , I tried to order the cream cheese macchiato and he rudely replied "we don't have cream cheese right now" which was fine I ordered a matcha freeze & he waited about 3-4 minutes to make my drink so he can plug his earphones up and look for a song to listen to before making the drinks. Let me tell y'all about this new boba joint nestled in El Sob in the East Bay! The nail spa I go to religiously next door mentioned their grand opening they had this past weekend, so y'all know I had to check it out. Miss Hannah, who did an amazing pedicure as always, suggested the Vietnamese iced coffee (which I absolutely love) on the menu as "Hue coffee with sea salt." It did not disappoint! I am so excited another boba place is in the neighborhood. The space is huge with lots of photo ops to be had while you're waiting for your snacks and drinks. There's about 8 tables to sit at and benches at the window as well. Super spacious and allows for proper social distancing. Although, it could get really busy after 3pm when the high school crowd stops by. We got the Hokkaido milk tea and the Panda milk tea with white and black boba. I love the Hokkaido with just the right amount of tea to creaminess of the milk. They use dairy free milk powder in their drinks so yay for us fellow lactose intolerants! The Panda milk tea had notes that were distinctively jasmine. If that's your thing, you'd love the floral flavor of this drink. The snacks, on the other hand, had room to improve. They only opened 2 weeks ago so there's a learning curve on how they execute their food. Our pandan waffle, chicken wings and calamari all came in white Chinese food boxes. Let's just say they were extra crisp. I'm sure as time passes, they'll do better on that front. I have high hopes for Toco and am glad they're here. read more

Give this place a try! We ordered two drinks this day. Cream cheese oolong tea and the Kumquat Lemon Green tea both adjusted 30% Sweet/30% ice. The drinks were delicious and flavorful. The Kumquat Lemon had a nice tartness but not bitter. Boba was on point, right amount of chewy and softness. I definitely recommend to my friends and will come again. 4 stars because the area is far from the freeway. The place is set back in the hills of El Sobrante and parking is difficult. I got a mango Yakult and some mozzarella sticks for 12$ The cup is pretty big BUT it's like 65% ice so when I come back I'll ask for a lot less ice. I was excited to finally see a decent looking boba shop open near my house and had to try it! I saw the ads online and realized there is a location in SJ so I knew this should be better than most places near here. Taste: I ordered a brown sugar milk, jasmine MT with 25% sweet and mango GT with 50% sweet (not pictured). First off, the drinks have a lot of ice, so I'd order less ice if anyone comes. I honestly thought the taste of the brown sugar milk was standard. I wasn't happy with the texture of the boba balls though. It was pretty hard and not chewy. When I took the first sip of the jasmine MT, it was disgustingly bitter for no reason. Not sure what it was, but I definitely had 25% sweet Jasmine MTs in my life, but this one wasn't great. I was hoping for a stronger tea flavor, but I didn't get that. Lastly, the mango green tea was honestly great. For 50% sweet, it's pretty good and it comes with coconut jelly. This was the best drink of all. For those coming here, I'd probably stick with the fruit teas to be safe. Price: It's pretty expensive for a drink. All drinks are $5.25 regardless of getting a plain milk tea or a fruit tea so my wallet indeed hurt a bit. Service: Came at a time that wasn't busy and the worker was attentive. I think the worker I spoke to could have done better by asking if I wanted any adjustments go the drinks. Overall, I'm not like the biggest fan, but I'd definitely go here again for the fruit teas. This Toco Tea location is in a small strip plaza with a shared parking lot. I have been to the other locations from this chain in other parts of the Bay Area. This one is by far the most aesthetically pleasing inside. I love the floral background, the egg swing chair, and the murals on the walls as well. It was a chill spot to hang out at, my friends and I stayed here for awhile playing cards and Uno. The owner is nice, he walked around the store to converse with his customers - he talked to my friends and me for a bit as well. Like the other locations, they have the soda can bottle, which is cool to watch the machine spin the top on to seal the can. I ordered their jasmine milk tea, and it was very creamy while I can taste the tea, it was a good mix/ratio. The boba was a bit too chewy and slimy though. The flavor of the fish roe balls was really good, I liked the fish balls with the saltiness of the roe. The fried chicken and with 4 big chunky pieces of crispy seasoned wings which I enjoyed. The the fried tofu was lightly fried and came with a sweetish soy sauce dipping sauce. I've been coming here since it opened and I have to say, Toco Tea has pretty decent milk tea considering the limited options in the surrounding area! I really appreciate how spacious the shop is, and the aesthetic it holds (you won't find too many Instagrammable shops in the area). Prices are alright compared to other boba shops (pretty much in the same zone, between $4-$6). Staff work swiftly and are really nice, and the shop is open into the late evening which is great. I drop by and enjoy the red guava tea here the most (and if I'm having a sweet craving I'll go for one of the more brown sugary drinks). My sister really likes the red velvet milk tea here too! read more
