Good food, cool place, but a little tight on space. Minimal "outdoor" seating. I had the Mexican themed burger, ordered medium, served well done. Still delicious. The pulled pork fries were great, and I am a huge fan of pulled pork. I'll be back to get that as a treat again in a few weeks. read more

I cannot begin to explain how wonderful the Tofino experience is! You can't go wrong with any item you choose on their menu because everything is absolutely delicious in its own way! I highly recommend the Red carpet burger especially if you're opting for a vegan option, as well as their mouthwatering Blumensalat! My Favorite restaurant in Essen by far! read more

We went today and were really disappointed. The french fries were relatively cold. We ordered two different burgers, both with 200 grams ground meat. The burgers were really dry, almost no sauce at all. Cheese Burger was didn't seem to have much cheese... & the Italian Burger was extra loaded with rucola leaves. Perhaps it was Saturday night and they weren't able to handle the load, I am not sure. But the only thing I am sure about is I am never going to visit Tofino again. read more

American expat here who recently moved to Essen. I live nearby and decided to roll the Yelp roulette for tonight's dinner plans. I know there's great German food around, but couldn't resist a nice burger. I'm from San Francisco, so I'm used to this foodie, hipster vibe that Tofino has going. It's got big open windows, unfinished wood tables, counters, and stools. It looks great. What's not so great is the service, wait time, and food quality. Service: it's okay. They were nice enough when I spoke English only but still hesitated to really help me. Not long after sitting down, I was asked for my order. Uh...I have to translate the entire menu first before I can decide what I want. Give me a minute. Wait time: the wait for a table wasn't bad. It was full when I walked in, but a seat for one took five minutes after a bunch of tables left. However, the wait for food was excruciating. I sat at the counter with two couples. The five of us put in our orders at the same time. It took more than 30 minutes before our food arrived. When it arrived, the same guy who took our order mixed them all up. We were already tired of waiting, now he can't even figure out which food is whose. Food quality: yes, it's nice that things are organic, but let me be critical of things that can be realistically fixed. First off, the cheese. I ordered my cheeseburger with blue cheese and expected crumbles. What I got was a blue cheese cream/spread that was very mild. Another woman at the table ordered hers with cheddar, and what she received was a cheddar cheese single melted across the top. They're advertising organic bread and meat, but then skimp on the cheese. Secondly, and most importantly, the burger itself was not that great. It was medium but much pinker in the middle than I'm used to. In addition, the burger was chewy and dry. Obviously it wasn't overcooked, so I think their meat is too lean. A good burger needs some juice in it. Lastly, the fries (pommes). The service size was ample, but the taste just wasn't there. Some of the fries tasted a little stale and others were just bland. I'm giving Tofino four stars because it's unfair to compare it to an American establishment. We're in Germany, I get it. However, I certainly don't think it deserves five stars like so many others have awarded. I'll return in the future and try another burger or salad. read more

The best hamburguers in Essen, by far. The price is right, and the place has the right size and style. The staff is really friendly and they talk really good English and Spanish. read more

Frisches, selbst pariertes und gewolftes Rindfleisch kombiniert mit leckeren Brötchen, sowie knackigem Salat -einfach nur lecker! :) Jeden Monat bekommt man einen wechselnden "Burger des Monats", sodass es nie "langweilig" wird. Jedoch sollte man die Steaks nicht vergessen. Diese sind ein Besuch ebenfalls Wert. Der Laden ist schön klein gehalten und verblüfft durch seinen eigenen Charme. Sehr cooler Laden im Essener Südviertel. Die Burger sind sehr lecker (nur aus Biozutaten) und mir hat der Kaffe sehr gut geschmeckt (war sehr cremig). Neben Burgern gibt es auch Salate, Fritz-Kola, diverse Biersorten und Gebäck für den Kaffee. Der Laden ist mit sehr viel Liebe zum Detail eingerichtet, es werden z.B. Retro-Blechschalen für den Burger und die Pommes verwendet und auf jedem Tisch steht eine schlichte Blume. Ich habe gelesen das auch einen Tofino Burgertruck gibt. Den muss ich auf jeden Fall ma ausprobieren ; ) Insgesamt ist der Laden sher zu empfehlen, eine kleine Gasto-Perle in Essen. read more

Das Tofino war am Feiertag letzte Woche total voll. Es gibt schätzungsweise 7 Tische, die aber gut belegt sind. Daher haben wir uns die Burger einpacken lassen. Daher nun zum Huaptdarsteller: Der Burger! LECKER! Das Fleisch laut Aussage des Personals dort frisch gewolft, Steakqualität und medium am besten. Und er hatte recht. Die karamelisierten Zwiebeln, die leckeren Soßen und die Chilli Cheese Fries dazu waren der Knaller! Für ca. 20EUR haben wir 2 große Burger+Pommes bekommen und waren pappsatt danach! Richtig leckere, perfekt medium gebratene Burger. Symphatisches und natürliches Ambiente ganz anders als Hans im Glück und Co. Überschaubare Karte mit klassischen Burgern ohne viel ChiChi, aber einem wechselnden Burger des Monats. Ziemlich kleiner Laden, deshalb lohnt sich eine Reservierung. Einziger Kritikpunkt: der Service. Nett, echt freundlich, aber etwas überfordert. Man hat den Eindruck, dass der junge Besitzer seine Kumpels gefragt hat, ob die erstmal bei ihm kellnern. Ich habe im Tofino die veganen Gerichte getestet und muss in Sachen Preis-Leistungs-Verhältnis leider deutlich Punkte abziehen. Der vegane Burger ist sehr lecker, allerdings mit 7 EUR plus (Chilis, Zwiebeln, kosten extra) doch recht teuer. Für den Preis ist der Burger definitiv zu klein. Ansonsten ist der Laden schön und die Bedienung sehr freundlich. Die Preise bzw. die Leistung sollte jedoch nochmal überdacht werden. Für qualitativ hochwertiges Fleisch mögen die Preise gerechtfertigt sein. Für die veganen Gerichte allerdings nicht. read more

Authentischer Laden! Eine echte Bereicherung fürs Viertel! Nette Atmosphäre, rustikale Möbel, klein und angenehm überschaubar. Die Burger sind super lecker - mein Favorit ist der Italian - und ganz vorne dabei ist für mich auch der Steaksalat . Probieren sollte man auch den Kaffee: Die Bohnen werden ganz frisch gemahlen und das schmeckt man auch! Es empfiehlt sich allerdings manchmal einen Tisch zu reservieren wenn man mit mehreren Leuten kommt.. besonders am Wochenende. read more
