Heaven. Pure heaven. Japanese heaven. I want to go there…read more
And now I know how to get there from Paris. You just have the open the door to this barely visible restaurant (all of the window shades are pulled tight and the menu on the door reveals little) settle in and embark on a culinary journey unlike any I've ever had.
Bathed in soft light, coral colored walls and decorated with wide, wood tables, this traditional Japanese restaurant has a throw-back feel that's very calming and reassuring. The pace is deliberate, the service warm, and the quality of the menus just exceptional.
You have a choice of several tasting menus from 29-42E as well as dishes à la carte to choose from. I chose the 29E menu which consisted of 7 small plates, which when you add them up, really pack a punch.
Here's what we had:
A delicate little amuse bouche of seaweed confit, super tender and sweet and really unusual
A small avocado and seaweed salad with a perfect vinaigrette
Deep fried homemade tofu served in a tangy, sweet sauce
A fabulous miso soup with more of that silken homemade tofu
Two yakitori, one salmon and one beef with cheese that blows the yakitori at your standard Japanese place out of the water.
A medly of 5 pieces of gorgeous sushi
And to finish it off, a ball of ice cream or sorbet
It was divine from start to finsish. My only one small critique was that a bowl of more unusual flavored ice creams would have been nice instead of the standard vanilla, chocolate, and pear sorbet that was proposed.
