We called on a Sunday to make reservations for the same night at 8 pm (FYI - ressos are important…read morein Brussels because once they're full, they're full - you can't even wait). We showed up at 7:30 to see if they would be able to seat us and they did. I initially found this place on Google because we needed some Chinese food and this place had good reviews/was close by our hotel. I'm not sure if the food was worth the 40 minute wait, but it satisfied the craving. We had the steamed pork dumpling. This was pretty meh - you could get similar quality in the freezer section. We then had the black pepper chicken. I was thankful for the huge portion but it was pretty salty. It definitely needed more than the bowl of rice it came with. Finally, the best dish of the night was beef chow fun. I didn't have high expectations for this one but it tasted pretty close to the ones at home in NYC, with plenty of wok hei. I'd definitely recommend this dish and if I were a betting woman, I would guess that their other noodle dishes might be pretty good too, so maybe just stick to those.

I think this is the best Chinese food in Brussels! Flavours…read moreand textures of each dish reminded me of my time in Shanghai. I intend to return often to sample many other dishes on the menu. Service was very friendly with a smile and good humour. We ordered more than we could eat and took food home. As leftovers at home, it tasted better than any take-out Asian food we have ever gotten. A true testimonial to the talented chefs! The restaurant is not large with seating for about 35. Indeed, the hostess/waitress had to turn away many clients during our dinner. Many Asian people at other tables along with a few tourists or local Europeans. I highly recommend this restaurant over any other Asian restaurant in the area. Location is near the bourse behind the Marriott hotel.

Anata is a strange/non-poetic name for a sushi bar. Wonder if they're going with a simple "you" or…read moresomething else. I'm no expert though. However, prices seem to be reasonable or cheap for the area. Their lunch specials were particularly enticing too. Portions were far bigger than we anticipated. Though, honestly, wish I had just gotten sushi. I picked a salmon bento lunch special and we also got a tori bento. Salmon bento came with a seared filet of salmon with a sauce, two salmon sashimi, tempura + sauce, four gyoza, rice, and miso. Overall, fairly decent and in a bigger portion. Tempura was really nice and the sashimi seemed fairly fresh. Something I later wished I'd just ordered alone. The salmon filet with sauce was so-so and looked good, but wasn't particularly tasty to me. Fried gyoza would have been nicer with a sauce. I'm unsure if the sauce provided was for both of the tempura and the gyoza though. Tori bento had a nice bit of terriyaki chicken, fried egg over rice, more tempura with a different sauce, miso, and kimchi. The kimchi felt a little out of left field for me, but wouldn't complain about getting kimchi. If it wasn't for the lunch prices I don't believe I'd actually have ever came here and would have found it a big rip off. The restaurant is nice for some okay Japanese style food, but nothing I'd desire to pay more than what I had. Service was nice/standard amount of reservation. Maki and sushi looked really good though. If the sashimi was any indicator of its worth then that would have been my first choice had I known. Bento boxes are good if you're looking for something heavy.

We were craving for Japanese food (especially ramen), and were glad to chance upon this restaurant…read more However, upon entering, we were a bit skeptical as we realized the restaurant was run by Chinese. And as expected, the ramen as well as the yaki soba tasted like Chinese food rather than Japanese. The ramen soup was bland and there was not much flavour, same for the yaki soba. The only saving grace is the sashimi we had, which was rather fresh. Overall, we were really disappointed with our 40euros spent on Chinese rather than Japanese food.

Okay, really a 3-star place but because this was exactly what we were looking for to satisfy our…read moreramen craving while abroad, it gains an extra star. A disclaimer: I realize that I'm probably spoiled by the mass of ramen joints that are in the Bay Area. As a result, I judge ramen places pretty highly. The 3-star rating is not to say that the ramen was terrible, but it is certainly not ranked among the best. Tonkotsu Ramen. Usually when I think of tonkotsu, I think of a rich and flavorful broth, as tonkotsu is traditionally stewed from pork bones for hours and hours. This broth fell a bit short of flavorful. The noodles, pork, and toppings were delicious (I always appreciate a perfectly soft boiled egg), but the broth is really what makes or breaks a ramen to me. Kara Miso Ramen. For those who like a bit of spice with their ramen. Or maybe not a bit of spice? I'm usually a super wimp when it comes to spice, and the slightest hint will have me reaching for a glass of water to rinse it all out. This one didn't do too much for me. I felt a little bit of heat lingering on my tongue afterwards, but I was expecting a bigger kick. The meat on this bowl was also a little dried out. I can definitely see why this place would do well in this neighborhood; it fulfills a need that is missing, which is exactly why we ventured into Umamido. Great for an area that is slim on authentic ramen choices; not so great for someone who comes from an area that is saturated with ramen.
