It was a busy lunch hour and we were seated next to a large group in the back. Plenty of seating which we enjoyed. Unfortunately, the waitress looked overwhelmed due to the busy that the lunch hour brought. She seemed to be doing everything from waiting tables, seating new guests and cashing everyone out despite more staff. We appreciated her attentiveness and check ins. They have about 3 different sushi menus, they had a specials menu, a sushi menu with nigiri on the other side and another sushi menu booklet. I was overwhelmed and didn't feel like I had enough time to study the menu because I was hungry (haha) so we chose something rather quickly and the sushi was freshhhh! Never have we ever had salmon taste so good on a roll and on sake salmon. We enjoyed the variety of rolls and their ingredients. We also had some miso soup and steamed rice. Well, the place looked questionable but man, we had a good meal! We had edamame (the best ever - you wouldn't think they would vary, but these were really excellent and they put a delicious light seasoned salt on them. Then a cucumber salad topped with a few bay shrimp that was just perfect, a classic seaweed salad, and a nice bowl of miso soup. My husband had a butter fish platter, they nicely subbed more greens for him as he is eating low-carb and the fish was delicious - he let me try it. I had a great special sushi roll. Really clean food, I had beef (grass fed) teriyaki and my husband had the fireball - both amazing. Staff was friendly and even tho we came 1/2 before closing they would not let us rush. This place had good reviews and we were traveling through after visiting the beautiful parks nearby. The sushi was great and the sushi chef was on point, but the chicken teriyaki bento box wasn't the best. I enjoyed the tempura vegetables, but you can only eat so much fried food and everything else in the box was pretty bad. The worst part of our dining experience was having to listen to the personal conversations of the wait staff. We sat at the bar and they were standing close by, talking amongst themselves, and not considering the negative vibes they were giving off. read more

When I travel I use Yelp all the time to see where my next meal will be. If you're one of those too, then this review should help you avoid this place. Bottom line: The sushi is mediocre, it's overpriced, and you get gipped on the rolls (see my pic of the caterpillar roll). I was like "where's the eel?!" Sure, I have high sushi standards as I live in LA, but there were some reviewers on here that said this place was just as good as some places in San Fran and Arizona. Uhhh, nah. If that's the case, then you don't know what quality sushi is. Could the sushi have been worse? Definitely. It wasn't the worst that I've ever had. However, for the price, it's a no. My wife and I had the privilege of dining here this evening. I ordered the Mingus Bridge and the Missoyaki Mussels. My wife ordered the Maui Bento and a CA Roll. Both of us were very satisfied and happy with our food. The mussels were so good, I requested second order. The sushi and sashimi tasted very fresh. Our waitress was friendly and liked the relaxed atmosphere. I would highly recommend it to anyone. We look forward to enjoying it again when we find ourselves in the area. There are many plates I saw coming out of the kitchen that looked delicious and I look forward to trying in the future. About three years ago, we moved north from San Diego, up to a little town called Colusa, an hour north of Sacramento. One of the things we miss most about San Diego is the great variety of good food we could get there including Japanese food. I am so glad that we found Tokyo Bistro during this trip into Oregon and visiting Bandon and Coos Bay. We hadn't enjoyed this quality of Japanese food in a while. My husband and I moved to the area last year and have been trying out the local restaurants. Tokyo Bistro is clearly one of our favorites. The service has been prompt and friendly and the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. And most importantly the food has been amazing. Wow, I have mixed feelings on this restaurant. The reason we dropped in was because of the good reviews and thinking that since we were so close to the coast meant amazing sushi, but we left totally disappointed by the rolls. First I would like to say that opposed to plating the sushi individually they put all of the rolls on a wood board and you eat it family style. I thought this was really neat and made for a cool visual. However even if the rolls look great and cleanly placed the rolls themselves were dry and unappetizing. Out of 4 rolls, the Lobster roll, mango roll, spicy Johnny (which didn't even have the ingredients it was said to be made with on the menu) and we can't remember the last one's name, we only liked the Spicy Johnny. The last thing I'm going to add is just don't get the lobster roll. It's loosely made because it's practically empty, they stuff it with vegetables and so little actual lobster it's actually comical. Seriously go look at the picture of the roll, they wrap it in soy paper to give the appearance like lobster. That roll is 17 dollars. Like always I want to be a devil's advocate and consider we may of came in on a bad night for the sushi crew but then again the whole staff seemed over it that night and it was just overall a unpleasant experience. read more

I love Japanese food, this was the worst I have ever eaten in my life! My husband took two bite of his sesame chicken and couldn't stomach anymore. It was so dry and flavorless. I had the prawns dinner, couldn't even eat all of it and threw up five times on the way home. It was so oily There was only one server, who did a great job trying to handle the whole dining room herself while there were 2 other employees just standing there behind the counter not even doing anything. I looked through the low reviews and all them just seemed dumb like the person wrote there review based on other low reviews.I came here with my aunt and we had a fun time friendly staff and laid back atmosphere. I mainly came for the Ramen and I had the seafood ramen and my aunt had the hungry Suchi platter, the Ramen was delicious the first time I have ever finished a big bowl of Ramen, my aunt says the sushi was delicious the rolls was made nicely and she could tell it was made fresh. We started with miso and endame the miso was homemade and the soybean's came steaming in a pretty large basket. We couldn't finish. I had the Johnny roll a fried yellowtail with other things like Avocado in a crunchy fried shell. Next I had the maki roll which was tasty. My wife ordered a cream cheese veggie roll which was also excellent. The service and servers were helpful and happy as well as fast. It was really clean and well presented. This was my go to sushi spot for years. John, the former owner was a very good friend of mine. I've lost touch with him, after he tried to open another restaurant in Lake Oswego. He sold this restaurant to one of the workers. Ever since that's happened, the quality, and the portion sizes have gone way down hill! Again, this was my go to spot, and I've literally spent hundreds of dollars there, if not over a thousand. Looks like I'm not the only recent reviewer who feels this way. There are two solutions to fix this problem. Either change your quality in portions back to where they used to be, or give the business back to the former owner, John, so this restaurant could once again have a five star review from many previous diners. read more

The food here is fresh and delicious. The service is excellent as well. It always smells good upon entering and the dishes are nearly prepared. I was impressed with their selection of drinks. None of them can be purchased anywhere around this area so it's great to go in and be treated to a drink I'm use to purchasing for home at an Asian market.
