On a last minute trip whim we decided to go to Munster. Surprisingly every hotel I contacted was…read moresold out. This was one of several that had a room and the plus was they allowed dogs. Really good location if you like shopping. Warning if you are here on a Sunday, almost everything is closed. There is a restaurant below one of the buildings that has an amazing happy hour with cheap cocktails and pizza. Plan at least one of your nights to end here.

I loved the Gästehaus der Johanniter…read more At first, I was thinking Oh no, either it's going to be a dingy B&B or a student-filled youth hostel! I was so wrong! On the other hand, it doesn't claim to be a 5*Star hotel like The Ritz, but it's lovely. Inside it's clean and modern with neatly pressed linens and towels, as well complimentary toiletries. (Me thinking it was a hostel unnecessarily brought shower gel, shampoo and towels!) Like any other hotel, the linens get changed daily, and the room is tidied on a daily basis as well (rather than the hostel method of collecting and tidying linens yourself!) The general hotel staff are nice and friendly, so are the housekeeping staff, who were surprised to see me lying in bed at 12 noon (I had a sprained ankle so I had to lie in bed for a few days). They were lovely and friendly (despite me not speaking much German) and even popped in to say hello during the day, which was really kind. The room has its own personal television, and internet sockets for laptops, as well as an en-suite bathroom, and a fridge for your room. Which is handy and useful for storing food during your stay, or just drinks like juice. For 89 Euros (for 2 to share a room it's roughly 40 Euros) you ge a lot for your money. Especially when you go down for breakfast! Breakfast is lovely there, you have continental type breakfast of croissants and various breads, as well as choice of juices, coffee and teas. You also have hams, sausages (it's Germany), and cooked items such as eggs (scrambled, boiled, poached, fried) and a variety of exotic fruit (pineapple, dragonfruit, passionfruit, and the usual apples and pears). There is also chocolate (merci), and yoghurts, mousses for those with a sweet tooth, so you're incredibly well fed (which is more than you can say for the usual boring meals you get in Marriott chains!) And if you're still hungry after all of that, there's a local supermarket, bakery and restaurants, and a short 3 minute walk away! Its location is in the suburbs, but has many buslinks, making it peaceful, yet accessible. So you can still pop to the local Muenster bars, pubs, restaurants etc in the city centre without feeling too isolated.

We tried on 2 separate occasions with a group of 4 several months apart (once on a Sat and once on a Mon) to get breakfast here and both times they were 'out of breakfast' at 1015 (it is served until 11) but no one bothered to inform anyone who was waiting at the reception for over 1/2 hour. It seems like people want to give this place a chance as there are always people in line but they can't handle anything but a small crowd and there are no communications about the wait or even if they will stop service before published hours. I gave the atmosphere a 4 because it is a great view and if you show up in the afternoon it is a smaller crowd but they only offer cake and drinks. So it if is breakfast you want you better show up early or if not, you are better off going to some other excellent bakeries / cafes in the area and coming back here in the afternoon for cake and a view. I'm not going to ever try for breakfast here again.
