We had a studio apartment and it came with everything we needed and had air-conditioning which was nice in the humidity that this season so far has to offer. There are three pools , one olympic -sized, and the other for kids and adults. I especially appreciated the close distance to Baratti and San Vicenzo beaches which is where we ended up going while there. They even have a little market if you want to pick up some food on-site as well as a bar and a restaurant.

Quickly learned what nessun signale (no signal) means. T.V. and WIFI lack constant service. Why do I need T.V. and WIFI, well I want to check recommendations from the staff with WIFI and background noise from the T.V. while doing research is nice. The room was just alright. The staff allowed us to change rooms from the tower to a ground level with patio. The view of the valley was great. Room had two sets of doors to the outside, being able to open for circulation was nice. Heat throughout was turned up to 50c, why don't know but turned that down though the room was still warm and humid. Can't open the windows cause there isn't any, only the doors. Could have left the door open at night for air, but what about safety? The bathroom shows signs of mold and smells like bleach, would help if there was circulation. They charge for the water that is replenished daily, though was not informed until check out. Breakfast is limited in choices. The staff has different understandings of what a coffee means, to some its an espresso and to some its a cup of coffee. Parking is plentiful.

We stayed in a room next to the pool area, which sadly, it got too dark and cold too early for us to use it! We had dinner at the hotel restaurant, which was quite good. We had their shrimp and pasta dish with the house wine. Volterra is a great town and San Lino is the perfect hotel to make your stay the best.

Two pools (indoor at the main building and outdoor 2 doors down) are lovely. We had breakfast and dinner each day and the food was excellent...fresh and varied. The staff is really friendly and our waitress, Sabrina, was a doll. The owner and her family were very accommodating and reserved special parking spots for our motorcycles. The rooms are typical European. A bit small, but clean and efficient. We had a lovely balcony and there is A/C if it gets hot. They should have ceiling fans, but I guess energy economy restricts them. A great "home base".

Our room was on the second floor and was a fairly large room with nice views. The bed was comfortable, WiFi worked fine and the bathroom was a nice size as well. Only downside was that there was no safe, which probably wasn't necessary as we felt the location was very secure. Breakfast is served downstairs in the morning and was the simple fare of similar European hotels. Price was fair for what we got and we were even able to arrange a ride into Monteriggioni.

The apartment had a modern bathroom with good shower, 1 double bedroom, 1 bedroom with twin beds, a kitchen/dining area and a living room with flat screen TV. The kitchen was really well-equipped with beautiful glassware, cutlery, crockery, kitchen utensils, pots, pans, fridge/freezer, kettle, moka pot and plenty of ground coffee, gas cooktop, oven, microwave, kettle, and dishwasher. The full-size washing machine/dryer was a bonus as there were 3 of us! The bedroom with twin beds was pretty noisy early in the mornings as it faced directly on to the street. Even though we were on the first floor (2 flights of stairs), the apartment had a little garden with a BBQ and an alfresco seating area. Vittorio is a very responsive and helpful host. This is a terrific option for a old town Volterra stay!

He spoke English like a native speaker. Days later, a car was here to pick us up even at 3am to take us to the Florence Airport and even stopped along the way so we could have one last pastry and cappuccino before getting to the airport. We had a couple different drivers, but both were extremely friendly. One of our drivers even took a detour from our route to take us on a tour of some catacombs off the beaten path that apparently only locals really know about. It was a bit freaky, but a fun piece of local culture you probably wouldn't have discovered without a knowledgable guide like Bacci. Highly recommended, but be sure to sit in the front if you easily get car sick. After a few bottles of Brunello, even the strongest of stomachs might experience a reversal of fortune traversing the twists and turns of the Italy's hill country...
