If it was possible to live half star I would, welcoming lady at the register is what took it to 1 star otherwise it's a 0 to 0.5. I was hoping to find a nearby barbershop open on a Sunday since I had just landed in Canada, and luckily I found this place. The lady who answered the phone was very friendly and welcoming. They accept walk-ins, so I rushed over hoping to make it before 4:30 PM for a quick haircut. I wasn't asking for anything complicated -- just a light side fade, a small trim, and specifically not too high in the back. I even showed photos of my previous haircuts, which I always do because pictures speak louder than words and usually avoid any confusion. The barber (second chair from the left) seemed to understand exactly what I wanted and even complimented my previous haircut, so I felt confident we were on the same page. Unfortunately, that confidence disappeared quickly. She seemed rushed and started going higher and higher with the clippers while I trusted the process and was distracted replying to emails on my phone. When she moved to the back, I could feel she was taking it too high there as well -- I even leaned my head forward trying to stop her from continuing. By then, it was too late. I asked, "Didn't you go too high on the sides?" and she tried explaining that it "needed to blend because of the fade," as if I'd never had a fade haircut before. Then she showed me the back, and I honestly couldn't believe it. Thankfully, she immediately noticed my reaction and acknowledged she made a mistake. To her credit, she told the cashier not to charge me and even offered me a soda from the fridge, which I appreciated. Still, I left extremely disappointed. I have important meetings this week, and now I'm walking around with what looks closer to a punk-rock/mohawk-style cut than the clean professional fade I asked for. She tried blow-drying and styling it to make it look better, but the damage was already done. What also rubbed me the wrong way was being offered add-ons like shampooing, eyebrow work, and hair products immediately after the bad haircut. The moment you walk in, there's already a huge display of products in your face, so being pushed toward more services/products after the experience felt tone-deaf. Ironically, I probably would have bought styling products if the haircut had turned out well. Overall, while I appreciate that they owned the mistake and didn't charge me, I can't recommend this place based on my experience. The wait is really long, I waited an extra 25 minutes from my expected time, and the expected time was 45 minutes long. I just about left when I was waiting outside the shop since the male store manager was chatting up his hair stylist for over 5 minutes when there were people waiting for cuts. The 1 minute scalp massage was "meh", the haircut was below average but not too bad, they also wash your hair before and after the cut, and they do a hot towel. But the whole experience that is advertised on their website is non-existent. They do offer a "free" drink with the cut, but as it is a small shop inside Fairview mall, they don't have the sports stuff. Overall it is not worth $25. read more

Amazing attention to detail from highly trained staff. No one else even comes close.

I have been to Tommy Guns, in Kitchener as well as out west, several times and found that the service is always up to par. I typically go in the mornings as to avoid the line. If I do have to wait I receive a text message from the receptionist to return; this usually happens once I have wandered around the mall for a few minutes. I've visited the competitors in the mall in addition to shops around town, including barbershops. I reckon this is by far the best, I don't mind paying a little more for a champion cut. This is an update to my first review where I had a terrible experience at Tommy Guns. However, the owner, Mr. Darren got in touch with me and offered me a free haircut. I went in yesterday and Ela took care of my haircut, and boy, was I glad I gave them a second chance. It's probably the first time that I really stepped out of that barber's chair feeling satisfied in terms of how I wanted my hair to be cut, since the time I have come to Canada (its been 2 years btw). Ela is a very professional stylist who knows her game and she immediately understood what I was looking for and even suggested something better. I highly recommend Ela at Tommy Guns. She definitely is a talented stylist. A big thumbs up for Tommy Guns and specially the owner Darren, who definitely knows how to win back clients and keep them! Cheers! read more

I visited this place at Fairview Park Mall today for the first time. And I must say it was the worst haircut I have ever got. When I first got there, their was no wait time and there was a barber available right away. Before starting they asked if I would like any coffee or water which I thought was cool. As a military member on leave I asked her for a 1 on the sides and back and a bit taken off the top. And the rest blended in which is a basic military cut. She looked at me like she had no idea what I was talking about. Half way through I noticed it was going to be a disaster and had to correct her numerous times. The haircut I got was bad. She spent 20 minutes on the fade which was blended poorly and not symmetric. At the end it was hopeless, I knew she was not competent enough to fix it and at that point I just wanted to leave. I plan on getting a real barber to fix it. The girls there don't have the enthusiasm for cutting hair and were arguing whose turn it was next. The head massage was Ok, but not worth the $28.50. read more

I went in for a trim of my beard and mustache. When I came in I was offered a coffee, tea, water, and a couple other things to have while I was getting my trim. During the conversation it came up that I had served in the military for several years, and when I went to leave, neither of them would let me pay. Excellent service, very friendly staff, and a great trim! Nice to see an actual barber shop - they are hard to come by these days! read more

I went in for a hair cut for the fourth time. Only had one good experience. You never get the same hair dresser. Your get who ever is available. Everyone I went they cut my hair differently every time. All I ask for is the sides to be short and leave the top. I do a comb over. Seriously how hard is that? They have a sign that says "cut" 16$ and when they finish they charge me $28!! The one girl janay is nice but she didn't do anything I asked. She didn't give me a fade and she messed my hair up literally and told me it was done. Rebecca told me she doesn't like puffy hair when I had her once and pretty much told me that she doesn't like my style but.I'm the boss and I get what I want. And she made fun of my name. Vahel was the only person who can cut hair. At least my hair and Viki was alright. 1 out of the 4 times there I had my hair cut good. But the other 3 were terrible. For the price its not worth it. I'm never stepping foot into that place again. I don't know why I stopped going to black and whites on king St. You get a nice clean cut and they clean your edges with a straight razor and they style it for $18. read more

I have incredibly mixed feelings on this location now. My first experience two or so months ago went great. I told the young lady how I wanted my hair done (for reference, was a simple fade all around, with the fade ending at a 0.5 and a slight trim on the top), and she did an immaculate job. I sent photos to the person who exclusively did my hair back in my hometown, and she thought it was near perfect to what I had always had done. However, my second visit was nothing short of a nightmare. I went in to have my hair cut the same as always, as I normally get my hair cut prior to job interviews. I asked for my usual cut, and the first thing the woman on duty did was question what I meant by a 0.5 length for the bottom of the fade. This was my first warning bell. Before the cut even started, she went to another person to figure out what attachment for her clippers she was supposed to use for that. Upon getting the help from someone else, it became clear that she wasn't even knowledgeable in doing a fade as she nearly started with a 1, and not a 3, which is the general length the fade starts at for my hair. Over the next 30-40 minutes, the person who was supposed to cut my hair, was being monitored, and taken over by, a second employee. For additional knowledge, it should be noted that without my glasses, I am incapable of seeing any progress being done on my hair. When the two of them were both "finished" the fade went all of an inch or two up my head and was completely unblended. I informed them, for the 3rd time what my cut should have been like. The second employee then informed the first that what I'm probably describing was the comb-over, to which I immediately said I was not. She then insisted on it being like the comb-over and proceeded to continue on with my hair, essentially shaving the entirety of one side to a 1, while leaving the other side shoddily faded. At the end, my hair was quickly washed, no scalp treatment, and the initial employee stated that she was just out of school and it was her first day. I was quickly rushed out with a "free" hair-cut and offered two $5.00 discounts on my next two cuts. In the end, I am now left with a patchy fade, and an all around repulsive and unprofessional haircut. Right before having several interviews, one of which I require to hire me if I am to continue to pay rent and afford to eat. And while I understand that being new on the job requires hands on experience, as a customer, I shouldn't feel like I'm being treated like a test dummy for both a new employee/hairdresser/barber. If she was incapable of doing the task asked, she could have, and should have, said she wasn't able to, and I would have politely told her that it would be alright and that I could have waited for someone who could. Instead, I was simply treated like a test dummy for her to learn off of, where her consequences would simply be that the location loses out on one cuts pay. I, however, may possibly lose out on much more, and will also be wearing a full toque to hide my head for the next month while I wait for my hair to grow back. read more
