Would recommend it if you happen to shop at Coles & are missing a few Asian ingredients ;)

This small new Woolies has taken over the old CommBank site, filling it with aisles of snacks, convenience foods and ready-to-eat goods. I don't think I've seen anything like it - not as big or well stocked as a supermarket, not as exxy and poorly stocked as a convenience store, it's perfect for busy workers rushing to or from work and in need of a grab-and-go meal. There's even a cafe onsite selling the cheapest coffee and cakes in Surry - $3 brownies, say whaaaaat? I'm yet to try the coffee here yet but boy has it been handy when I've been running to/from Central and needed to pick up a bag of washed spinach, a tub of yoghurt, a pack of bikkies or a bit of fresh fruit. Rude, unprofessional and untrustworthy trader. The…read morefollowing is my awful experience with the trader: About 3 weeks ago, I visited the store and bought 2 bags. When I left the store, 1 bag was leaking. when I put it on the ground, it broke. I collected its contents in another bag and left. Subsequently I made 3 further visits and bought 3 other bags. 2 weeks ago, I emailed the trader seeking an order of 15 bags/ month. The trader agreed and emailed me the order will be ready in the first week of may and I need to pay for the first week at the store. In 1 May. I emailed the trader to enquire about my order. The trader refused to honour our agreemen. Today I emailed the trader that I'll never buy any product from their store again due to their dishonest conduct. Subsequently the trader made false statements in reply to my negative review of its store. My post is just a warning to potential shoppers that this trader is a rude and dishonest person.

I thought I had been given a bad bit of information when I asked…read morewhere the nearest grocery store was located, for in the States, if there are even Woolworths left, they are the old "five and dime" type stores that stock a bunch of stiff but not groceries. But here it was. Conveniently located to my hotel on the lower level of the mall ( another misnomer for me for I was told it was on the 2nd level, which I automatically assumed was upstairs and not down) plenty of fresh produce, lots of fresh deli items and even a number of drug store items. The check out was fast and effiencient and I loved that credit card orders under $35 do not require a signature. All in all super convenient, decent prices and a large selection for a city center location.

It does not feel right being the first writer to review this Coles Supermarket. Now having…read morediscovered this Coles, I feel rather lucky to come to Yoga inside the shopping centre where this supermarket is situated once a week; and on this I always make a visit to Coles at Westfield Bondi Junction without fail. Pity they don't award Qantas Frequent Flyer Points for purchases over $30 like their major competitor does. The airy ambience and bright lighting is so welcoming. Love the fresh fruit display as you walk in. Fresh quality fruit, and ever so welcoming. Love a kilo of Red Delicious Apples ($5.50) in particular, they're juicy as. I stock up on these for the next few days ahead. The pizza bar right near the sit down (or take away) sushi bar and cafe is just amazing. I have tried the meat lovers and tropicana pizzas ($5 a slice in the past), and today I enjoyed a full serve of some Peri Peri Chicken Pizza ($5) while killing some time prior to an important dentists appointment. Generous pieces of chicken with the right amount of tangy sauce, with a few pieces of sun dried tomato succumbed to the senses and hit the spot at around 11am. These ingredients are clearly fresh, and they combine well with the cheese - mmmm swiss cheese. Today, there were samples of this and the grilled haloumi and pumpkin pizza for free - such a filling lunch in itself. There were also free samples of some hot chicken curry pie, and in the deli section some beautiful meats and cheeses to try. You do not feel like you've stepped into a supermarket when in these areas, and the service is friendly and consistently good. You can even pay for your groceries at the pizza bar. Coconut water never seems to escape you at this particular Coles either. I stock up (as best as possible) on 1 litre bottles of coconut water from here despite the constant fluctuations on prices (inflation, excuse me) with an abundance of these always on special. I need such for my daily green elixir that appears to be working, although not in areas of my body where I really want (and need it to) as of late. You can move quickly in the self service checkouts too. I'm an Aldi addict. I may work in marketing but I still get sucked into their genius marketing tricks week in week out. To the point where I will line up on Wednesday/Saturday mornings (note this is when the specials are released) along with the rest of Hurstville to get those specials. An Aldi addict that only gives 4/5 stars? That doesn't make sense. So the reason for the missing star is that Hurstville Aldi is CRAZY!!!! I wish this wasn't the closest Aldi to me but it's a dog fight for the specials each week. The sports specials, the winter clothing specials, the ski specials. My goodness the crowd has arrived by 8.20 at least. As soon as the doors open at 8.30 it's a mad rush to get your size. If you're late (by late I mean about 8.40) you might as well not show up. The other thing with Hurstville is they must carry a very limited number of size S as they are gone like this. Limited supply and over demand is never a good thing! Be prepared... be very prepared to fight to the death and have those shoppers who come to do normal grocery shopping with their trollies roll their eyes at you as they struggle to get past the crowd towards their fresh produce. I must say though you can get really good deals at Aldi. A pair of hiking boots for $35? Say What?!!! Premium ski jacket for $99? GET OUT! One tip. If you use a debit card and pay with pay pass it's an extra 0.5% but if you insert the card into the machine and put in your pin no surcharge. In these instances Hanaro is often on my list of places to visit. This has become a little less frequent of late as a massive Korean store has opened in Hornsby. In any case, Hanaro is great for two special reasons. The first is Cuckoo rice cookers. My family eat rice about 5 times a week. While most rice cookers do an awesome job, the one I bought from here is a pressure rice cooker which takes rice to another level (take my word for it). The 2nd reason is that they stock one of my drugs of choice. Chocolate covered sunflower seeds. So morish that it is all I can do from *cough* "magically" making an entire packet disappear in seconds ... Anyways. Check this place out. It has all your Korean mart needs.
