Both doctors are great. I tend to see Dr Templeton more often and she is super thorough! Janice, the practice nurse is also terrific. If you live in the area, this is the practice for you. I did a quick search on the net and wrote down a few addresses, and then headed off to do a bit of a reccy. The first few surgeries on my list looked so awful that I didn't even go in. I was starting to wonder whether they had ANY nice looking surgeries in my area when I finally came across one that looked just about alright. I went in to find a very crowded small room, and dubiously asked the receptionist whether I could register with them. Unfortunately, she told me that they weren't registering patients at the moment - and pointed me in the direction of Abingdon Medical Practice on Stewartville Street. When I reached Stewartville Street, I swear a breathed a massive sigh of relief. Not only was it very clean and pleasant looking, when I got in it was bright airy and nearly empty. Registering was really quick and easy. It's easy to get an appointment, once you get there you don't usually have to wait for too long, and they have a large selection of magazines in the waiting room. The receptionists are also really nice, not like the grumpy ones you normally find in health practices. Basically, just about everything you could ask for from a doctors surgery.

Convieniently located in the heart of campus, this place came to my rescue a couple of times over the past few years when I was too ill to make it to my registered doctors up in Maryhill. I've been able to get an emergency appointment before, and more recently a lovely nurse took out some stictches for me. It can take a couple of days to get an appointment but if you think it's serious they'll try and squeeze you in.

I respect very few people in this world, but even a few years on, the old doc is still up there at the top of my estimations. And I felt a bit like Tony Soprano sitting across from him. I tried to make an appointment over a week in advance and was told I couldn't and that I should phone on the day I wanted the appointment. Now I have tried this before and on the day I was told there were no appointments to be had, there were no free appointments with any of the doctors. I then tried a different tactic and asked for an appointment 2 1/2 weeks in advance only to be told they couldn't book an appointment that far in advance!!!! I was tearing my hair out, I mean really and truly what does one have to do to get an appointment to see a doctor for goodness sake. I too once waited nearly 4 weeks for an appointment and at that time I had a very bad chest infection. Thankfully I was able to obtain antibotics elsewhere and really that was just luck, what if I had had to wait 4 weeks without them...would it have been more cost efficient and better for me had I had to be hospitalised should my chest infection have become something more serious? I do NOT think so. This practice is so badly managed that I tried to "escape" and register with another practice only to be told that I couldn't. Apparently if you are trying to register with another practice in the same catchment area you can't, you can only do this if you are coming from a different catchment area. Things are so bad I am thinking of getting a new addrress just to get registered with another practice so I can see a doctor. It is utterly scandalous! My recommendation is DO NOT REGISTER WITH THIS PRACTICE!!!!!

I have to say this review is for the GP service at Townhead HC NOT the dentistry, podiatry or other services that are provided here. I actually trained & worked briefly in the dentistry department and if I was to review them they'd get 5 stars, hands down. Lovely people & great service they're providing. But unfortunately the GP side is another matter...Townhead HC is split into a few differents 'wings' and I cannot remember exactly which wing my GP was based but as you walk into the centre if you head to the right hand side that was my GP reception & waiting room. Based within the Glasgow Royal Infirmary near the Alexandra Parade/maternity entrance & shopping concourse THC is quite handy for transport to and from (there is a bus stop right outside) but unfortunately they're opening times weren't that handy; pretty much 9-5pm. Maybe that has changed now, I hope so for the patients sake. One of the worst things I found with THC was trying to phone to make an appointment - this has to be one of the most frustrating phone-lines ever! Firstly you are given options for which service you require then eventually you are put through to reception to await a receptionist to take your call & give you an appointment...well, I must've spent HOURS over the years registered here waiting on the phone, trying to get through...so,so frustrating! Many times I would be waiting (phone ringing) and I would just get cut off! I swear the receptionists had a cut-off button so that if the phones rang for too long they could just shut them up with a quick press of a button. Great. Just what you need when you're ill and trying to phone up for an appointment! *sigh* Then when you DO eventually manage to get through some of the receptionists (well 2 in particular) are quite snappy with you & not the most pleasant of people. Turns out in the flesh they're (sometimes) even worse! Hmph. Quite often I have been offended or annoyed by them upon visiting the practice ~ they are also quite rude to people who cannot speak very good English (a lot of non-English speaking patients come here) which used to horrify me when I was sitting waiting to be seen (the waiting room sits directly opposite/beside the reception), don't get me wrong some people they had to deal with were just idiots but those that were just not used to speaking English very well or weren't used to a Glaswegian accent were often treated appallingly. I must add not ALL the receptionists were like this; just a couple in particular. The other thing I must add about trying to make an appointment here is please do not expect to get seen quickly! On occasions I had to wait nearly 3 weeks to get seen! Yes, THREE WEEKS. Ridiculous. It is (obviously) a very busy practice. Be aware of this. Doctor-wise it really was hit-or-miss in my experience...one of the nicest, kindest most caring doctors I have ever seen used to work here but unfortunately for myself (and other patients) she left to work elsewhere. I was truly sad to see her go. She was brilliant with me after my Dad passed away and on other occasions when I really needed help & reassurance. A lot of doctors don't give you the time of day (I realise they don't HAVE the time to give these days...) so it was so nice to have such a caring doctor as herself. I still miss her. The nurses here are most of the time very nice too, although my last encounter with one of them wasn't a great one...I was basically asked 'so why are you here exactly?!' and then I was told to leave & make another appointment at a later date. Ridiculous! Waste of time for both of us. I was not happy to say the least. But they provide a good service for non-urgent appointments also Well Woman, Phlebotomy, Antenatal, BP, Diabetes and other such clinics are held by themselves. The waiting room is a good size & the magazines are usually only a year or so out of date (compared to 2 or 3 years) so not terrible. Only one unisex toilet but there is a lift for disabled access.

I've recently received some excellent service from the surgery relating to a recent thyroid-issue diagnosis...there was no faffing about, I was referred to the endocrinology dept at the hospital really quickly and they even asked which hospital would be easiest for me to get to! Holy back crack Batman, this place is my dream come true!…read more I've been going for adjustments since I was a kid and have really seen the benefits throughout my life. I've been seriously slacking (aka, haven't gone for an adjustment since probably the late 90's) and I was really starting to feel the effect due to various things going on in my life. Being a pseudo-runner (and part time exercise buff-HA!), I somehow managed to pinch my sciatic nerve on my left hand side. Understanding that it stems from the lower back, I was feeling all sorts of annoying dull pain in two certain places on my leg and of course on the left side of my back. I've been to my GP and orthopedics to try and figure out ways to ease this pain, but left feeling unsatisfied with printed out pamphlets on ways to stretch it out. After doing a bit more research, I noticed that a sure fire way to improve my life would be to get back in to going to the Chiropractor and after two adjustments thus far I am already feeling a world of difference. In other words, no pain whatsoever!!! Buchanan Wellness is housed in the same office as Devonshire Dental, and I was in Devonshire Dental and decided to ask the receptionist for Buchanan Wellness about services offered. She was able to get me a consultation that same week and I was introduced to Dr. Jasmine as well. What a lovely doctor! Jasmine comes from a long line of Chiropractors (her entire family are Chiropractors) and she has loads of experience and knowledge, you can't help but feel comfortable and welcomed. She's calm and understanding and she listens to your needs and works with you to figure out a solution. She is great with educating her clients and gives you a little booklet to take home circling the areas of the spin that need attention and what organs the nerves attach effect. It makes so much sense!! For all you students out there, she offers a student discount and various payment options should you need multiple sessions for whatever ails you. Dr. Jasmine also offers massage therapy, and wellness workshops weekly for anyone who has questions about the benefits the chiropractor. I've been super busy with end of term papers and exam prep, so I've had to reschedule my appointment and already I'm missing my adjustments. I'm not feeling bad, but know how beneficial they are and very much appreciate that they help me feel like I'm on top of the world! I am a huge fan and highly recommend that you check out Buchanan Wellness. You'll be so glad you did!

However, the recovery wasn't quick enough, so I went to a physio. The physio said I had to choose: osteopath (at a fair price per session) or physiotherapy on the NHS. I went for the cheap and, as it turned out, effective, option. However, I had had some signs of improvement in my fortnight at this osteopath, and do believe that his work did some good. It was not madly expensive, compared to other treatments (chiropractic, I am looking at you), and there was a sense of genuine attention, not just bilking the sucker from his cash. If you understand and believe in the process, this is a nice and professional clinic.

The doctor had recommended I go to a chiropractor because I was suffering back pain in the lower region of my back, so I booked an appointment. It did make a difference though to how often my back was getting sore, as it was mostly running that was when it got sore. They gave me a few exercises to do to strengthen up the muscles in those areas, which I still do from time to time. I found that the benefit from the treatment did not last but this was at no fault of the Back Place as I did not return for treatment, when I was suppose to. It is a little pricey all in all but if it fixes an aching back that might get worse than it must be worthy it.

I've been here that often that even before I get to the counter the receptionist gives me a nod. They know me, too well me thinks. Eep! Och to be honest it is nice, they are friendly and it shows they know their clients. Ive always managed to get what I've needed from the doctors and been cured by their good advice and prescribed medication, the majority of the time. There is a couple of unusual things about this surgery. 1. They do have music playing in the waiting area but it plays through a phone on the wall. This also doubles up for the doctor to call you. The music is usually catered for the older generation and it's so muffled sounding, well it is playing through the speaker phone. 2. My doctor has a dog who lies underneath his desk. He has a reason and there's signs up saying why the dog is there, I can't remember why but it's all above board. It is quite nice when you see its wee nose poking under the desk giving your feet a wee sniff. Another couple of things to note is that you can only book an appointment on the day, so call at 8am to make sure you get one as they go quick. They changed it to this system to reduce the amount of missed appointments. Also the only open for a half day on Wednesdays as the afternoons as I believe it's the baby clinc.
