Beantown comes out, plugs their diagnostics in and generates an annual report. The heating system breaks, Beantown comes out, resets something and leaves. The next day, the heating doesn't work again. This has happened multiple times now. My 70+ year old parents have been without HVAC heat for 2 days because Beantown has failed on multiple occasions to to either properly identify or fix a known issue. Now, their call service is demanding a $500+ emergency fee to come out and address the issue. Apparently, this is because they had a holiday party the other night and gave all their employees the weekend off as appreciation for their "hard word". That's great if for them, but not great for elderly customers with service contracts whose heat doesn't work during New England snowstorms with sub-freezing outside temperatures. I guess one of my parents' neighbors had a similar problem Friday night (saw talking to the service person in the Beantown truck in his driveway) and the neighbor was told that a dirty air filter caused the most recent heating failure with his HVAC ...

Mike dug up the pipe and made the repairs, (in the dark); he also replaced the laundry trap I had broken during the day. He was friendly and responsive to calls and just had a generally good attitude about coming out to do a quality job even though it was probably pretty minor compared to other projects for him. I do a lot of my own work in my house and for the few things that are "beyond my pay grade" like running gas pipe, I was happy to hire Ed. We hired D & J and Dan Gargiulo to install a new heating and air conditioning system after our old…read moresystem stopped working. We had a contract and went through MassSave and the initial process took months because Dan would provide incomplete information for the MassSave paperwork and would never respond to emails, calls or texts in a timely fashion. We went with him because he had the best price, but it hasn't been worth the stress we have endured, or the money we are now paying other contractors to fix his work. Once the work finally started Dan and his crew were completely unreliable. We would take days off from work so that we could be home when they were working and they would sometimes not show with no phone call after they promised to work that day. The entire process was a nightmare. We had them install two systems (both heat and ac), one in the basement for the first floor of the home, and on in the attic for the second floor of the home. Dan told us the project was done and took off to Florida and we discovered one of the air supply vents wasn't even connected to duct work. He never checked the work of his crew and took zero pride in his work. Within months of the systems being installed, both stopped working. A town plumbing inspector found a safety concern in the upstairs unit and we had to have the plumber that Dan subcontracted to come fix it, and then pay another HVAC company to install it the correct way. Dan designed the downstairs unit without nearly enough air return, which we learned after the system stopped working and we had multiple HVAC companies come out and point out the same issues as one another. The other HVAC companies were appalled at his work and sheer negligence and said there were glaring mistakes. I don't want any other family to experience the stress and financial burden we have endured. Please do not use this contractor.

Found Michael thru Yelp and since he was local I called and asked him for a quote on new…read moreboiler/heating system as ours was leaking a little bit. He stopped by and gave us a quote which was very comparable to other quotes we received. We decided to go with Michael and a few days later (before our scheduled installation date) our boiler/heating system completely broke and we had no hot water. He again stopped by and looked it and offered to try to fix it temporarily. We appreciated the offer but we just waited for the scheduled installation date that we had already set. Michael had said it would take 3 days to install and it took 3 days. He arrived on time every day and worked all day in the very hottest of days. His subcontractor/electricians came on the last day and they were polite and on time. We asked them for their business cards in case we needed future electrical work. I've attached a photo of his work. Disregard the flooring as that where the old equipment was.

He explained that my on-demand oil system could then be turned off in the summer, saving money. I stupidly trusted that advice rather than research it. First, it makes no sense for a weekend house to heat water all the time when we are almost never there. Second, electric at the time was the only source of energy that was more expensive than oil. And that was when oil cost a lot more. So there is no way for a more expensive energy source that is always on to save money over a cheaper source that is on-demand. To matters worse, he plumbed it after the on-demand oil heater. So I can't even turn off the electric and go back to the oil since it would have to fill the entire electric tank! He should have put it before the oil heater, or run a bypass pipe with valves. I blame myself for agreeing to it, but he should know better. But he got his up-sell I guess. I feel burned. I am still upset every time I have to go to the circuit breaker to turn it on and off when we arrive and leave.
