Decent menu options and some fun looking specialty cocktails. Chcicken Cobb salad was good with plenty of bacon and a nice dressing. Fish tacos were ok, but not great. Fish was a bit overdone and flavors were just average. Service level seems to depend a bit on which server it is. Our main server was fine, but the guy that brought our food was less friendly. We asked if there was salsa for the fish tacos and he said "yeah it's on the top" in a fairly curt manner. We didn't bother to tell him that what was on the top was pico de gallo and we were asking for salsa. We might go back for cocktails, not sure if we'll go for food again read more

There were two of us so we got three plates to share not knowing if it'd be too much food but we actually ate it up and it was SO GOOD. The bahn mi was my first choice and I was surprised by how flavorful it was. The pork belly was melt in your mouth good. The marinade was the perfect balance of sweet and spicy. The bread was nice and crisp, the pickled vegetables added a nice crunch, and I got a side salad that was just right. I was really happy with my meal. My brother scarfed down the fajita bowl and loved the shrimp tacos. 10/10 food and 10/10 ambiance. Hopefully I'll be able to catch a performance next time I'm in town. I know I'll be back! read more

Last night I ordered Top Hat's dinner called Asian Chicken Noodle Bowl and it was delivered by DoorDash. The Asian bowl was unbelievably spicey. I could only eat a few bites and my mouth was on fire. I am in love with The Top Hat! The beautiful brick walls amid wooden detailed bar creates a cozy and welcoming vibe the moment you walk in. We came for dinner not on a weekend so didn't have the live band and crowd to contend with within h made it feel more relaxed and easier to chat. We split a cheeseburger and were provided options such as lettuce wrapped, gluten free bun or regular bun on the side. I always appreciate those who take care of us gluten sensitive and those managing celiac. The toasted bun hit the spot for the hubs and I almost ordered a second batch of fries enjoying every bit of the homemade pickled ranch and the zesty ketchup. When you want to return to a place just for the house made condiments you know you've found a gem. Also a shout out to our TOP notch server, Sophie, who took the time to pour my canned beer into a glass and offer just the right amount of small talk and care to water refills and was really pleasant! Very close to our hotel so we popped around to the place as it was recommended. Cool vibe. There's a stage where they have live music certain nights. I can see this place probably get a great crowd. Seemed very bar foody Unfortunately nothing I ordered was good. Our waiter was super nice and honest about what we ordered but the kitchen was just not on point today. Burger was way over cooked. My server was wonderfully attentive & kind but the lettuce wraps she suggested were very disappointing. They were missing any sort of sauce which would have been a great improvement in flavor & texture. I ended up taking most of it home, chopping it all up into a salad bowl and adding a Thai peanut dressing which was much better than how it came to the table. The past few times I have gone, the service is pretty slow and the food takes some time to come out (especially if you go at rush hour). it is a big space for indoor and outdoor seating - I think they host a lot of events. We used to love the Top Hat. They still have great tasting food but the last several times we've eaten here we have had food poisoning. it's been incredibly severe. Had a late lunch here to top off my first visit to Montana. Service was prompt and friendly. Papa Don't Preach cocktail - mmm, nice and spicy Spirit in the sky cocktail - kinda tastes like a watered-down version of the Papa Don't Preach. Chile Rellenos tacos - fresh and delicious. I wasn't sure if there was any cheese on mine, so I asked for some on the side. My waiter went above and beyond and brought me a 2nd order of tacos! Nowhere on the menu or from the server description did it say anything about the buffalo chicken soup and the pancet noodles being EXTREMELY spicy, not even normal spicy. They had super spicy chili flakes in everything, I couldn't even eat the noodles, we threw them out. The drinks were so boring here and the service here was whatever. I didn't finish my drink. We were there on Friday at lunchtime so there was indoor seating available immediately but outside there was a wait. Our server came promptly, as well as our drink order. Sadly, this place was a giant waste of money. Tired delivery- not available right now. Ok online ordering- nope. Ok we will go for a walk from our hotel and pickup. Not too big of a deal. We tried ordering salmon linguine- sold out. Ok fine, NBD. Then we order burnt ends, jackfruit tacos with fries, pork lettuce wraps, and pesto pomegranate salad. After tip it was $65. "Burnt ends" were literally nothing but I rendered fat chunks- nothing burnt about them. They were chewy and cold. Oook, next. Jackfruit tacos- flavorless and corn tortillas were so dry they were cracking before I picked them up. Pork lettuce wraps- SO Salty we couldn't finish them. The only thing that was really edible was the salad. Wow. That's all they could manage to do well?!? Lastly upon pickup the fam brings our food out in a brown paper bag and says " the handles broke on my way out here. Enjoy". So we had to carry the paper bag torn all the way back . What a joke. Seriously my favorite food in Missoula. I make a point to go here every time I'm back in town. During my 10 day visit I ate here 3 times and was so so satisfied!! On my first 2 visits I got the tempura oysters mushrooms and the third time I went in, they were out. Honestly the mushrooms were good but the aioli was phenomenal!! It was a lemon truffle garlicy do that was just so awesome. Flavor galore! I also shared the chimichuri chicken sandwich on two of my visits. Again just an explosion of good flavors in your mouth. The bun was buttered and toasted, the chicken was tender with a crispy outside and the sauce and veggies gave a little kick. Seriously try this!! Chicken and waffles, never fails. The Rosemary butter and the waffle are a perfect pair with the chicken. This is my friends go to when ever we come here. Jerk pork tacos were also stellar!! They were pretty spicy but so much flavor. It has a really good pineapple chutney on top which paired really well with the pork flavors. The 2 things I want so crazy about and also forgot to take photos off were the lettuce wraps and the noodle soup. I got the wraps and the meat was just a bit too salty. I did take my leftovers home and after it cooled down and sat a little longer those marinade flavors were a little less intense but still wasn't totally thrilled. Wouldn't get them again. And my friends got the noodle soup. I don't remember what it was called but it had the rice noodles and some Asian flavors. Again not a big fan. Tasted like Asian pot roast soup and I'm not a big pot roars fan. Will definitely be back to see what's be the next time I get to Missoula. read more

Ahhh the chicken chimichurri sandwich is something that I will dream about. My husband doesn't usually like slaw and he was over the moon about this sandwich. So crispy and garlicky. I got this with the tater tots which were unlike any tater tots that I have ever had. They were almost like deep fried mashed potato balls. The Wisconsin burger was also good but we both felt a little grease overload after eating it. (My husband and I do the slice in half and exchange so I get all the variety.) the fries were solid but not as exciting as the tater tots. Only disappointment was the side of aioli sauce... kinda tasted a tad funky in a not so great way. They also don't have bbq sauce which is us just being needy and nothing against the restaurant. Really kind servers. We were indoors which was a bit dark and cold and I wished that I had asked to be seated outside. If you are hot and want ac though, then you would be set. I frequently travel to Downtown Missoula for work, and Top Hat is the go to place to grab food and drinks after a long day of meetings. I wish the place took reservations, because wait time can easily be over an hour. At least you can order drinks at the bar until your table is ready. In the summertime, it's nice to eat outside. As far as food goes, it's so-so. In Missoula, it's as good as it gets. I ordered a shrimp salad during my first visit. I learned my lesson not to order shrimp there. I got red curry the next time. It was kind of watery and peppers were added to substitute flavor. I now stick to salad with chicken when I go. If you're looking for a place that can host a large crowd with decent drink menu, this is the place. As for food, it's your best option for the price range. read more

Their chicken and waffles- my favorite was so spicy- the red pepper flakes were prominent in the dish. It always had a kick but it was over the top spicy!! The chili that was their soup of the day tasted like it had been burnt and they served it anyway. There's a difference between roasted and scorched!! Such a bummer, I always recommended it to out of town guests...not anymore!! If it ain't broke don't fix it.. they may have upgraded their kitchen facilities but they definitely downgraded the quality of the food coming out of it!!! read more

We had to wait ~45 minutes for a table, and once we saw how not full it was, I can only assume that was a forced wait due to staffing. Our server immediately told us how tired she was (granted, the whole town was probably busier due to Pearl Jam being here - but it wasn't busy when we were there). She never put in our order for the brussels sprouts appetizer and didn't bring the second beer was asked for (which, maybe, was OK since the first one was warm).
