Disappointing experience. When the stylist showed me the final result at the salon, it looked fine because I only took a quick glance. But once I got home and looked closely, I noticed that my curtain bangs are completely uneven one side is noticeably shorter than the other. I'm honestly confused by all the positive reviews. I needed a new salon and after researching a few places I decided to try Top Style, in part because of the great reviews but also because the online scheduling was really easy. It's a small space but felt lively and welcoming and all the staff were friendly and helpful - I was greeted and checked in right away and then seated at the station just a few minutes later. My appointment was with Mark and even though I was just getting a basic cut, I liked that he took the time to listen to what was going on with my hair and what I was looking for. He asked specific followup questions when we were talking and I feel like that's always a good sign that a stylist is really paying attention and trying to understand what kind of cut/style you want. This place was referred to me by a lady at the gym, so I scheduled and made the hour drive. My stylist was Mary a woman from Iran I believe. But bad impressions. I was on time and they made me wait. Hair was everywhere when I came in. I took a picture. Then my hour was split between another person that was probably getting their hair dyed. Why am I paying top dollar to have my hour appointment split with another person? The cut was also subpar. Some uneven strands in the back. I thought I'd just leave it be and not come back. I took a makeup class with Lory and it was amazing! Not only is she a very talented makeup artist, she's patient and a wonderful instructor. She will recommend products at different price points but encourages you to bring your own makeup. She will show you how to apply different aspects of makeup and then has you practice so that she can give you hands on instruction. Lory will also show you how to apply different looks, i.e. day and evening. I would highly encourage anyone to take a makeup class with Lory! read more

I wanted to reach out regarding my color appointment last week. While the staff was incredibly friendly and I liked the process, now that I've seen the color in different lighting, it's not what I was hoping for. I was aiming for a honey blonde as shown in my reference photos, but the result is more of a caramel tone and I don't like it Also, I wanted to mention that the hair brushing and washing were a bit roughmy leg was actually twitching from the discomfort. However, the team member who did my blow dry was wonderfully gentle. I'm not looking to redo the color right now as I want to give my hair a break from chemicals. I have been going to Top Style by Kate Noda since it opened and have always been thrilled with how my hair looks! I usually get highlights and a haircut from Kate but have tried different color appointments (balayage, pink/purple hair, highlights/lowlights) as well as different cuts/styling. Kate and Lory also styled myself/my bridal party for my wedding, and Lory did my hair for my engagement photos! The salon has a great location in Lake Anne Plaza next to the water and is a clean, open space and the staff is always incredibly kind and friendly. For my wedding, Kate and Lory met us at the hotel we were getting ready at and arrived exactly on time! I did a trial beforehand and was very pleased. I have fine white hair and a short cut. I showed Kate some pictures of what haircuts I like and she asked me why I liked each one. When I finished she told me what she wanted to do and I agreed completely. She was amazing with the razor cut and finished with shears. Kate also taught me how to do what she did. I am very disappointed in the cut done by Mona. I asked for a trim to remove dry/split ends. I got an "upsale" for a moisture treatment that I looked up afterwards which is targeted at color treated hair (which I don't have and I don't use heat to style my hair). My split ends are still there which explains why she spent so few minutes snipping. I had 2 people recommend this salon, so warning - don't trust the salon to vet the stylist. read more

Excellent experience at Top Style! I've been there 3 times now for color/highlights & cut with Tolga. He is masterful with natural color blending and his scissoring technique is truly skillful. Giving 2 stats because all the staff was super nice. Special shout-out to the shampoo assistant who was the sweetest. I unfortunately cannot give more stars for the actual work done on my hair. They reached out to me via text to request pictures of what I wanted. I sent back 2 photos of a previous balayage I had done a few years ago and told them I wanted a full balayage with cool toned blonde and long layers. I reconfirmed this with the stylist when I got there. What I got was a partial highlight (was still charged for the full balayage) that was basically yellow and a chop haircut. I could tell something was wrong because she came to check my color at the shampoo station and immediately did a toner. Like I said before, everyone there was super nice but I unfortunately will not be returning to this salon. read more

I came here for a full balayage and expected to have more of an ombré with a lighter/warmer caramel color added to my dark brown/black hair (I had a picture of what I wanted and showed it to my stylist). Mary did ok with my hair and used the 'teasing method' giving me more of a natural look with soft brown streaks instead. I gave this place three stars because (1) I expected to pay what was listed on the website but ended up having to spend more and (2) Mary was pretty rough with my hair especially when she was brushing out the tease. I left the salon with my scalp feeling extremely sore. read more

I guess I went with a lot of expectations after reading the reviews. The place as such is good and they did a good job washing and cutting my hair. My only thing is I asked for a particular style and showed a pic so that there wouldn't be any confusion, but my haircut didn't look anything like it. I understand hair textures are different and styles cannot be replicated exactly but my haircut does not come close to what I wanted. Haircut as such isn't bad just not what I wanted. read more

Well, they did nothing to try to fix it. The owner doesn't seem to care. she says I can come in and get my haircut again. There is no way they cut all my hair on my right side of my head with a razor and they left my little left side with all my pretty curls . I look lopsided. Don't go here if you want to keep your hair in good condition. They don't care they just want the money. I should go in and let them see exactly what Mary did to my hair. I am heartbroken. It took me a while to get my hair, healthy and nice and they just ruined it in a minute. read more
