We've ordered takeout from here a few times and decided to dine in this time. Unfortunately, the dine-in experience just wasn't it. The person at the counter who took our order was friendly, but after that, the service felt very dry and unclear. Once our pizza was ready, my name was called and the pizza was left on the counter in the pan. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to take it myself or if it would be brought over. When I grabbed it, I also had to ask for plates because nothing was offered. Throughout the visit, there was very little guidance or customer interaction. When I went up to ask for a box, there was no acknowledgment at first -- just a quick question about size and that was it. No one checked in or asked how anything was. It also seemed like other customers were just as confused -- someone next to us didn't know what to do with their pan either and was told to leave it on top of the trash. The pizza itself was good and came out quickly, which is why I'd still order takeout again. But as far as dining in, I probably wouldn't do that again. read more

Hey, it wasn't horrible, but it wasn't great. 1. The pizza is New York-style, and the two pizza fans pronounced it less greasy than normal NYC pizza but not really epic. 2. The salad was good. The veggies were cut really big, which made it much harder to eat them all. The chicken and bacon were okay, but nothing epic. 3, The chicken tenders and fries were overcooked and average. They almost made our list of places to go back to, but in the end, there are better places in the Frederick area for pizza. So, they get a 3, almost nearly good enough, but missed it by that much. Not, as a Chicago Pizza fan that I hold it against the NYC style of pizza. I don't eat pizza anymore. read more

Tried this place the second time, hoping it has improved, but it did not. While the price is ok, you pretty much get what you pay for. The pizza is mediocre at best and the place is not cut out for being a sit down restaurant. The seating is uncomfortable and its just not relaxing to enjoy food and conversation. Mostly geared toward takeout business, the experience was, much like the pizza itself, underwhelming. Sadly, I don't think we will be back. read more

Toppings has been my goto Pizza and Hoagie shop for well over 10yrs now. I usually get their Italian hoagie but last night I tried their Turkey hoagie for the first time. I recommend ordering it like this: I added diced cucumber, spinach, and fresh garlic, salt/pepper/oregano/oil & vinegar. I left the other items exactly the way it came. I could not believe how good this Turkey hoagie was, it was slamming! My order also consisted of a regular crust pizza and a calzone. Everything was amazing as usual but really, I was prompted to write this review because I was shocked at how good their turkey hoagie was. Hands down, best turkey hoagie/sandwich I've ever had. We ordered two medium pizzas and a mozzarella sticks appetizer. The sticks were fine. The pizza however was abysmal. Both had no flavor at all. No salt, garlic, pepper, it genuinely did not taste like anything close to what we should have gotten with $40. The main reason for the low rating however is the manager. The woman working behind the counter was SO nice. But the man had such a nasty attitude. I complained to them nicely but upon doing so he incredulously said "but we've been here 20 years" okay and? Dominos had more flavor than what we bit into. Don't discount a customers honest opinion. Anyways... long story short I don't recommend this place both because of the food and the manager. read more

I used to love Toppings, but something changed. The pizza doesn't taste as fresh. I can't figure it out, but the last two times it smelled off like the tomato sauce wasn't good quality. Flavorful sauce on tradional style pizza will satisfy all pizza lovers. Large dinner entree portions and generous servings of sauce with their pasta dishes. The tortilini Rosa sauce is fresh made with real herbs, tomatoes and cheeses. The dinner salad had plenty of veggies and the garlic bread is fresh baked. So glad we tried take out from Toppings and we will continue to order from them. Use valpak for discounts. read more

Pizza was tasty and the sauce made it stand out as not just another pizza. It was a little on the pricey side but I guess that's where we are at these days. Over 20 for a large one topping pizza. The boxes used to say "New Jersey Style Pizza." That's what first turned me on to the place. I sas over a friend's house, they ordered take-out, I was impressed. Have been here occasionally since and it always deliveries a great pizza. Blows any local chain out of the water. It's a good pizza. I wish you could get a normal size large pie, to-go, but for some reason the 18" is only available if you dine in. What has changed with pizza box technology these days when you can't get an 18-20" pie in a box? They knew how to do it 30 years ago, but now everybody gives you a 16" pie, calls it a large, and that's the end of it. So, slightly smaller to-go pie aside, the place is great. They have great lunch specials and from the looks of it, everything is pretty good. But I always get the pizza so I don't really know how the rest of the food is. read more

The pizza was just ok but my Greek salad was the best salad I've had in a very long time. The prices are reasonable. Great parking no line . Eat in or take out. Beer to go or dine in. First off, the food is freaking delicious. Taste like home.. NYC... it's not a restaurant it's a pizzeria. So self seat, and pay at the register before your food is ready. They will hand it to you at the counter so you will not be served... that out of the way, the food really was the best I've had since I moved down to MD 15 years ago. Great neighborhood pizza joint. I'm of the opinion that less is more with pizza; the simpler the better. Mario's Special Tomato Pie is my go to for that reason and it's what I ordered tonight. The acidity in the tomatoes balances out the garlic and salty cheese for an amazing flavor. IMO, the 2-point test of any neighborhood pizza place is their pizza and their subs...preferably cheesesteak. I'm happy to say their cheesesteaks are also very solid. read more

A very small amount of American cheese was placed in the roll with the meat added on top. Total disappointment again!!! Long time customers over the last 10 years. Quick service and food is always very good. Cheese steaks, pizza, and wings are all great. Staff is welcoming and pleasant. Only drawback is the cost of our meal; two small cheese stake combos, two sodas, and one large cheese pizza runs $44. I Have been coming here for 15 years! Being from jersey, this is the best pizza i have found in maryland to date. As a tip for those who frequent here and eat in, call your order in 15 minutes before you get here and you can bypass the line! 10 years ago i moved to Hagerstown and was beside myself when they built a Toppings right near the hospital! However the location was sold early in 2011 and has taken a dive! I now drive back to Frederick with the family all the time and its worth the trip every time! My husband and I are both from NYC, and consider ourselves pizza snobs, plus he LOVES wings. We've tried both from Toppings and cannot get enough! I just love the crust and the fresh taste of the mozzarella. My husband likes that he can get his wings cooked perfectly crispy instead of having to pop them back in the oven. Cheesesteak sub deluxe is good but what's the point in giving options to add toppings if your cook is just going to ignore them EVERYTIME?!

The ultimate in being a cheapskate along with false advertising. Their menu does not indicate a certain pizza being a white pizza. I drove 15 minutes there to pick it up, and 15 minutes back, got home to see no sauce on the pizza. I called and they said, that is actually a white pizza. I told them that wasn't indicated on the menu. After talking to her boss, she said we can only give you a refund if you bring the pizza back....I swear this actually happened, no exaggerations. I despise food service places that don't realize they are horrendous with customer service. This is a business that even has delivery drivers, but nope, it's on me to bring the food back, just to get a refund because they falsely advertised it on their own menu. Just go a mile down the road to Starvin Marvin's Pizza. There are actual humans running the place. read more
