Another day, another delivery order as we search for some RVA gems! They're not reinventing anything or getting too creative, but this spot will give you exactly what you seek if you want classic Chinese takeout. Tonight we ordered General Tso's chicken, pork fried rice, sauteed garlic string beans (asked for spicy), and spring rolls. Everything arrived hot and ahead of schedule, which was great! Nothing was disappointing when it came to flavor. Kudos to them for putting more than a lone piece of broccoli in the General Tso's... Some folks might find it annoying to get 6 pieces or so, but we LOVE them in the sauce and there was still plenty of chicken. Definitely ask for the string beans spicy- it steps them up several notches. We will be ordering from here again the next time we crave Chinese takeout. read more

Overall this is my favorite Chinese restaurant in the Richmond area. The staff is nice and they will make sure your food is ready with quality taste and would make your mouth water. What I like about their food is it will make you satisfied and wanting back for more in the near future when you're craving to fill yourself up. It's a small 10 minute drive from Scott's Addition to Top's China, but hey, it's worth it when you have a reliable go-to spot for Chinese takeout! Prices are very fair, employees are super friendly and cook up your food fast, and the quality of the food has been amazing! Veggies and meats always taste fresh, white rice always has that great fluffy texture. My favorites so far: Sweet and Sour Chicken [~$7]: Giant portions, batter has a great crunch without being super greasy; chicken tastes delicious and never dried out. Steamed Shrimp with Broccoli [~$9]: From their "diet" menu; love love loved the huge pieces of fresh plump shrimp. I recommend the Garlic Sauce on the side, they give you lots and it tastes great! Hot and Sour Soup [~$2]: Wow, a giant quart of filling soup for roughly $2, that's hard to beat. Love the big pieces of tofu, chicken, and mushrooms in the soup. Broth tastes amazing too! They give you the good wonton strips too...the ones that are thinner and crispier. My boyfriend always loves their Chicken Lo Mein; I've snuck a taste and it tastes great and not super greasy or heavy. I'm also a huge fan of their Egg Drop soup and Spring Rolls. I've gotten the best bang for my buck here in terms of portions and quality of the food, plus, they have one of those punch cards where if you buy 6 dinners, you get the 7th one free! This is our fave spot for Chinese - moo shu pork is EXCELLENT; the spring rolls are consistently good but sometimes extra peppery and we're sad when they're not; kids can put down massive amounts of the steamed dumplings; veg lo mein has a nice amount of vegetables. The portions are generous, I usually worry I under-order when ordering for meals with friends/extended family but we always end up having plenty of leftovers!!! We've ordered here enough to say the low star reviews are worth ignoring. read more

I eat from Top China often, it's our go to place for Chinese. It's the best spot in the area. My favorite dish is the seafood soup, although like most of the typical take outs in the area the crab is imitation. We never eat in, the place looks clean enough however we prefer to take our food home. My kids love the crab Rangoon and my husband usually gets beef and broccoli. We never get anything too outside of the typical dishes, I wasn't too pleased with their version of chicken chow mein. I gave them four stars because they are good but not great. read more

Tops is the tops! Finally found our go-to delivery spot after MUCH trial and error. Other restaurants just don't have the same level of quality & flavor that Tops China gave us. Having bought take from Top's China and really enjoyed it I was sorely disappointed with a buy of Shrimp Egg Foo Young. The two eggs with a few shrimp inside were hard fried and flipped over instead simmered in gravy like their Chicken Egg Foo Young (review below), I was unfamiliar with the cook, he may have been in training?, he clearly didn't know how to prepare the dish; the pleasant young lady which I believe oversees the orders wasn't there. When I bought the Chicken Egg Foo Young I didn't have to put the meal together, but with this one I did, a small container of gravy on the side was included; the gravy for pouring over the eggs was enough for one egg but certainly not enough for two: I prepared more gravy for the food after coming home. I also bought two egg rolls which were hot, crispy and delicious, I rate the egg rolls five stars. And even though hot, the Shrimp Egg Foo Young could have and should have been better. read more
