They "checked my insurance" prior to my appointment, but the total they ended up charging me over the ensuing months was 4 times that of the estimate. This was for a routine study, nothing special. Took hours on the phone to reach anyone in billing and was told they would review my case. No word afterwards, just a message from collections some time later. Go anywhere else. read more

Love the staff here. Very nice and respectful. No issue with billing until last year. I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had numerous procedures done. I paid my deductible out of pocket on first biopsy. Now I am being charged the contractual discount rate that they agree to with my insurance. They sent me to collections over an amount I do not owe. Charged my insurance $450 and I paid 246.80 the $203. They say I owe is the discount amount. My insurance says I don't owe yet they turned me over to collections. Will not go back transferring all my records elsewhere. read more

Major billing and refund issues with TOPS at this location. They first tried to over bill me before they would even see me by several hundred dollars. For my procedure that was in August, and the explanation of benefits settled in early September, it is the middle of December and I still don't have the refund for them making me overpay before they would treat me. I have called and tried to work with him no less than six times It is December 7, and in our last conversation, they told me that they had initiated a refund on my credit card on November 12. But I still have yet to see that credit hit my credit card account. read more

STAY AWAY!!!! I have been going to Tops for almost 20 years. They are not the same good facility as the past. The work preformed is ok, but if you are ever owed money, you will NEVER receive a refund as the billing department is not here and do not care. They have owed me a $300+ refund for a year now.. I have called over 20+ times within the year and insurance has even tried to help. EOB states they owe me, Tops billing even knows how much they owe me, but keep lying and saying its batched for refund or its been processed. I have NEVER rec'd the refund. They lie and say a supervisor will call within 48 hours but they of course are lying. All I can say is use someone else. I am moving on, and this place will NEVER get my money again. read more

Same problem as other reviews. I have been trying for about a year now to get a refund from the worthless outsourced billing dept. The billing company they use has no clue how to process an EOB from the insurance company. I have been calling, tried emailing & today I'm going to TOPS with my EOB's from blue cross asking for help. I've had to deal with breast cancer this entire year. don't need this stress. The "back office" they mention when you do talk to someone is non existent. It's just a buzz word they are told to use to get rid of you. I am due a refund of $138. They keep sending statements saying I owe $638 & it's going to collections. I got a mammogram and a bone density test. The mammogram went fine but the tech for bone test was very demeaning and patronizing. She talked to me like I was 5 years old. Just because a person has a temporary injury or a handicap does not mean their cognitive abilities are impaired. Update: giving them 1 star now because the staff won't call you back about delayed test results and when they finally do, they were incredibly rude! There are too many imaging centers in Houston to put up with this kind of service. read more

I've called for an appointment twice a day for a week. Each time I've left the suggested voicemail requesting a call back to schedule. Nobody answers any of their phone numbers [281-580-6171, 936-321-5300]. Online scheduling gets frozen at the insurance-page. I've had great medical and tech experiences for 15 years with TOPS. Something has changed this year with their IT systems and phone systems. read more

Scheduling!!! Respect my time. I absolutely detest providers that do not value a patient's time. You can't be late but they can take all the time in the world. Then when they have the audacity to be nasty when you inquire. I'm always on time- early even. I get annoyed when the appointment is 15 minutes late. I inquire at the thirty minute mark and I'm pissed at 45 minutes especially watching people that came after you serviced. There are many other centers/places. Do not come here unless you have nothing better to do than wait! read more

Avoid at all costs if possible. Needed to get my previous information since my primary care had changed service. Tops would not fax a request for the CD to my primary care so I had to request it and then pick it up, which I did. My husband was in the area and went to drop it off for me. They told him I needed to come in and sign a release form. He told them no she won't because that was not told to me that it had to be delivered personally. Ended up making an appointment for the mammogram and ultrasound at the Red Oak facility (so much better). I was told that the results would be mailed to me along with my discs. Called almost a week later to inquire where they were in sending it and was told that they had mailed them with registered mail. Never got them. Ended up calling my primary care doctor and they said they could email me the results. This place is pathetic. Being a doctor owned facility doesn't mean that their bedside manner is good. Sure, the facility itself is nice and they do let you do online appointments (which is good because - as also other reviewers point out- they never answer their phone). But the big problem that makes this one star? This facility outsources their radiology images & interpretation services to Rose Imaging Specialists. So your mammogram may be 100% covered by insurance, and yet, you will find yourself later mailed a $440 bill from the party they outsource to that, as many have said, is often not covered. There's no specific disclosure of this either. You may sign a paper telling you that you're responsible for any charges associated with your mammogram, but the paper doesn't list these third parties they outsource to nor even tell you that they outsource their imaging interpretations so that you'd know to ask. And as many times, front desk staff may not be aware of who they outsource to and you can't get anyone on the phone, this is problematic. This really should (and likely does) fall under surprise billing, which is illegal. Coverage by the third party radiology interpretation was not covered by our insurance which is not supposed to happen under Texas statute, as TOPS -Woodlands was covered. Since this has happened to many others as shown in reviews, I suggest avoiding. read more

I would give this business zero stars if I could. I've been going to TOPS for about 5 yrs for mammograms/ultrasounds. The actual appts have been fine but the billing portion is a nightmare!! Each time I have to pay an estimate at the time of the appt. It is always higher than what my insurance says I have to pay. Then I spend months trying to get my refund every year. They use a third party billing company that has no idea what they're doing. I am currently trying to get a refund from my appt in August 2024 and have called about 7 times to be told that they've referred it to their "back office" and nothing ever gets done. There is no way to speak to a supervisor either and they won't tell you where they are located. If I try to call the TOPS office for help, I am told there's nothing they can do because it's a third party billing company. It is a complete runaround and I will never go back. I will also tell my ob/gyn that I think they should stop referring them. There are plenty of good places to go that have a competent billing dept. I would save yourself the stress of dealing with this one. read more

Warning! If you do not have insurance that covers mammograms, do not go to this location unless you are completely aware of the charges. I am self insured, but my insurance does not cover preventative services, including mammograms. I specifically told the front desk that I would be a cash paying Patient and wanted to know how much it would cost, expecting to pay the bill at that time. The girl behind the desk would not ever give me a price. She just kept saying that they would bill my insurance and that I might be surprised they might pay at least some portion of my mammogram. I am in the healthcare profession. I told her and I know my insurance and they will not cover any of this, but she refused to give me a price and just kept saying they would file it with my insurance. Since I am a working person and had taken off work to do this procedure I went ahead and got it done. Two months later I received my first bill from a place called Rose imaging for $440 when I called Rose about this, I was told that this was, the company that read the mammogram. No one had said anything about there being two charges, one for the mammogram and one for reading it. 4 months later received a bill from Tops surgical specialty for another $465. I tried and tried to call them and kept getting a recording saying that they basically could not or were not open for business I can't remember the exact verbiage that was used. I called the number which was on my top bill for months with no response. I wanted to ask them what the heck? I'm paying $900 for a mammogram? When I had specifically asked for a price and was not given one. I even stopped by Tops breast center the girl there told me that my account did not show a balance. I wanted to make sure this was correct and asked how could I get in touch with someone about My Bill they gave me a name Robin and a phone number which when I called it was a none working number ..I never received another statement. I'm sitting here 9 months later and another statement for the second charge of $465 comes to me . I cannot get anyone on the phone at their billing center , or the extension that schedules appointments . I have now wasted three hours on hold this morning and still no answers. I will never go back to Tops again their customer service is not poor. It is nonexistent, you cannot get anyone on the phone and if you go online to dispute a bill there's really no place on their website that I can find. Maybe it's there somewhere but I can't find it to dispute this or to even ask a question why was I not informed of this outrageous amount of money for a mammogram. read more

Referred to this provider by my gynecologist, who specifically mentioned that the 3D mammogram was "free" at TOPS as a screening exam for someone like me (thank you, dense breasts). The visit itself was issue free and staff pleasant. I inquired directly about any charges for the 3D option and was told nothing was owed. Done deal, I thought. All that changed when I noticed my insurance was billed twice for over $600. I have a PPO through my employer and was surprised to see I might be responsible for over $180 for what was supposed to be a free screening exam. (And in the past, a copay for a 3D mammogram was usually no more than $50.) Thankfully, due to their billing and coding discrepancies my insurance adjusted the bills and I owed TOPS nothing in the end. But be very careful about their billing practices if you choose to go here. Had I not been paying attention to the claims I would never have seen what appeared to be a deliberate effort to max out their payment for a routine screening. I will not go back to TOPS next year, and I'll be sure to notify my gynecologist so she won't mistakenly refer other patients here. read more

I've never experienced something like this before - my wife had to go in for a mammogram and ultrasound, and we knew that insurance wasn't going to cover that portion (since she is under the minimum age). We asked for an estimate, and they gave us a roughly $500 number (in network, but we've got a high deductible HSA plan). Wow, expensive for a routine procedure, but it's worth it for her health. She saw Amy Nordmann, who was very nice, for about 10 minutes. Everything was clear, and she paid the $500 and left. Well, here we are about a month later, and guess what? Surprise bill for another $250 (from the doctor herself). My wife called the office and the billing person told her that the radiologist bills separately that's just how it is. If that's the case, why was it not included in the original estimate? $750 for a routine mammogram, and they want her to come in again in six months. On top of that, the billing specialist was condescending and dismissive over the phone. Beware of extra charges, and shady business practices. I'd suggest calling around and price shopping before you go here. read more
