Don't get me wrong, the concept of putting sand in a rooftop to mimic a beach bar set up is nice but a visit there on a September evening proved that such may not be a good idea if it is not well executed. Did I expect too much? Well, for a bar on a rooftop, yes. You'd expect for a beach lounge chair, your feet on the sand with a really nice 360 degree view of the city while sipping on your piña colada. It's a wonderful way to spend your Friday evening, right? But I didn't get to have that nor did any of my 4 chill buddies. Nobody could get a nice 360 degree view if the entire peripheral is lined with tarpaulins effectively blocking all of your view and it's much worse once seated. There is no view at all! You are left just with shoes on the sands that didn't fare well for a colleague who was wearing heels plus you do get sandy insoles afterwards. Once you are seated, you are offered menu and that's where things get sour. The prices are costlier than the average so you'd think things get better. Our cocktails were served in cheap, small plastic cups and impressive is not even the word you find for a mile. What you can find probably would be the cheapest ingredients to concoct the drinks. If that's not enough, you'd get to hear a short EDM on a loop for the entire time which gets to cringe level once you hear it for the nth time. Better alternative: Mauritius near the main station. That's a nice place with good drinks. In glasses.

As an American of German descent, I will never pretend to understand the Germans. Service in Germany is not the same as service in the USA, so do not come to Stoevchen for the service. Come for the flammkuchen which is only 3.90 for the classic tarte with sour cream, hamand onion. A side salad is only 2.65, and a Radler is 2.50. It is a student type place but well worth it for Americans who are open minded and not expecting the service they have come to rely on in the USA. Also, most of the schnitzels are only 4.00. I have given prices in euros. I love this place, and it is open for breakfast, too. Knowing German will make it a bit easier for you to appreciate Stoevchen.

There are so many different looks, which all brings you on the journey to discover something new or grab a lonely planet ;) Service: Nice and friendly. The care about everything and totally fit in the bar, they own. Food&Drinks: A big range of good quality drinks for a moderate price. The only have 4 small starters on their menue, so dont go there for food. But it's a so good for having a chat with some friends. Summary: Wondering why this place hasnt more guests. I admit, it was nice having sand on the deck and it did feel like a beach. We watched the match on the big screen under a white tent, which seems to be a permanent fixture. The couches were big and there were a lot of pillows. There was no sand where we were sitting under the tent. The selection of food was a bit disappointing, only small snacks and light sandwiches. Drink selection was good. Don't come there hungry. After the match was over, we went to the sand area and sat around and drank. We closed the bar at around 11pm. Unfortunately the owner seemed very upset with us that we had not left yet and that we weren't leaving as fast as he would like. My german isn't very good but he was kind of arguing with my colleague. I'm not sure what they were saying. The beach chairs were nice, the wait staff was attentive, the crowd was interesting. I'm not sure it was the best place to watch a soccer match. Definitely more fun after the match was over. There are umbrellas, and beds with canopies and those beach chairs with the canopies too. Overall very cool. Would go again.
