I am so disappointed that Torchy's has removed the jalapeño sausage from their menu. That was my go to every Saturday and Sunday for breakfast tacos. I don't give a lot of three star reviews but in a city like Austin, where the competition for breakfast taco supremacy is heated, that's the best I can do here. We came for breakfast tacos at breakfast time of day and found out that Torchy's has decided to no longer serve coffee because they were "losing money on it." A place open in the morning for breakfast that doesn't serve coffee? And at nearly $5 a taco the claim they are losing money is a bit suspect to me. We ordered chips and salsa with our tacos, which really should come out in ADVANCE of the meal...it did not. It never came. The tacos themselves? Fine. Damn good? Torchy's has hit bottom. Chips with queso were stale. Waited over 30 minutes for tacos to arrive. Wrong sauce with the tacos. Margarita didn't even cover the ice in my glass. Tables were dirty. Many of the gps locators had been left on the tables from previous guests. Instead of someone clearing tables and getting these things to pass out to the next guest, servers are wandering around the floor asking whose tacos they're carrying. The first review I did for this place was a bad on due to their previous employee being just ridiculously rude. As of 5/10/21 there is nothing bad I can say about this place. Working near this location I come in a lot and see how they work in the packed times versus the slow times. That being said Chris and Foster have been nothing but professionals. They know exactly what customers care is. Hence me taking the time to leave them a review. Every time I come in I get a genuine/friendly hello with a smile. Do these guys have bad days?? Unfortunately this location has repeatedly messed up to-go orders for us. Tonight is the 4TH TIME where we've ordered a mixture of tacos with flour and tacos with corn and all were flour or all were corn instead of what we asked for. This time they also had incorrect ingredients added in. Bacon in one that shouldn't have bacon and potatoes in one that shouldn't have it. The order was entered correctly but the kitchen CONSTANTLY gets it wrong. This cannot just be us as this happens too often. Management needs to better train the staff. They are not reading the orders and it takes 20 min just to get tacos that it would have been even worse to wait another 20 min just to get them to fix their error so my family who are particular about their tacos ate a meal that was less than. Please get your staff to do better and provide the meal that was asked for and paid for. read more

Dropping them from 5 Stars to 3 Stars. The two reasons are, 1. Not following CV-19 protocols. They have signs that the tables have been cleaned, but we watched customers leave and others sit at the same table that was never wiped down. Their signs need to say on one side, Clean Please Be Seated, and on the other side, This Table Needs To Be Cleaned. Of course it's the customers responsibility to flip it over when leaving. Several other restaurants are doing this. 2. Though they may have cleaned the table we sat at (maybe), they definitely didn't clean the bench seating as it was filthy with food. We sat at the corner table by the employee kitchen exit door. They really need to stay on top of this for customer safety. But over the holidays we had friends who were visiting us and we went to the Cedar Park location and oh man oh man.. every single taco was so salty.. it truly was a disappointment. This is about the service when an order went wrong - twice! We got a different salsa with chips from what we ordered (queso instead of the poblano) and we then became aware that the Mr. Orange we ordered wasn't going to turn up - turns out the cashier didn't hear me order it and so it wasn't on the receipt. I'm giving 5-stars because of the efforts the gentleman went through to make it right. Just outstanding attention and concern for our troubles. All I can say is that he had a really cool beard and he seemed to be the one in charge. I won't say what he did to make it right (in case he's not supposed to do what he did) but it was epic service. I came to visit family from out of state and ate at 2 location (S.A. and this place). In S.A. it was great, food and customer service. It was so good I wanted another meal at Torchy's; even though there's plenty of other great restaurants to visit with limited time. We placed a large family order online and proceeded to pick up but it wasn't ready when we arrived. So I went to the bar and got a drink. Half the glass was mostly ice and the drink was very weak. My husband tipped $10 for a $9 drink. After a few sips our order was ready. I kindly asked for a to go cup so we could go while the food was still hot. Instead the bartender said no and gave an excuse of not being allowed, but she could give me a cup if I ordered another drink. Huh? Didn't make sense to me whatsoever. I wish I could have done one or both of the following: 1) go ask another server at the food line for a plastic water cup and dump it in myself or 2) pull my money back out of the tip jar and use the $10 for another drink. Instead I chugged the drink and cursed under my breathe. Let my experience be a learning lesson, do NOT tip until after your order is complete and don't eat at this locale, it wasn't just the bartender with attitude but another one too. We love Torchy's!! We even have the red hot tattoo. They have great tacos! They're always adding a new one to the menu every month. The only complaint is that they need to have bigger venues. Yes, I'm an unabashed fan of Torchy's, so do you think I'm going to give it a BAD review? I don't think so. :-) Seriously, I would give it a lower rating if it didn't meet my lofty expectations of Torchy's, but yup this is another blessed place to get your taco fix. I'm not a fan of this location's odd floor design, layout or colors - it's darker and funkier than I'm used to seeing at other outlets. And as always, choose your dining times carefully or you'll spend too much time in line versus enjoying your food! If you're new to the Torchy's menu be sure to try one of my favorite double-features: the Fried Avocado paired with a 'Secret Menu' favorite, the 'Mad Cow' (think beef fajita meets black beans and corn). Such a pairing is the Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers of tacos. This place scores a 4 out of 5 on the 'CTJ Scale', as noted below. 5 out of 5 stars: Come-to-Jesus good. I love the food here and when you come into the restaurant it's been always a good experience but ordering for curbside pick up was horrible! Ordered the food at 5:45 PM he said it would be ready by 6:30 we arrived at 6:30 PM and texted that we arrived and we waited one hour for our food!!! that is so ridiculous, I was so hungry, and if I knew I was gonna wait an hour I would've just come and eat inside. We eat Mexican food about twice a week so we are always looking for great Mexican! We stopped into Torchys as it is right by my office and we were extremely disappointed!! The food honestly was not edible (mine not my husbands) it was cold, it looked like it had been thrown together and tossed in the basket. The food is good but pricey for what you get. The service is terrible. Been to this location twice in the last couple of years. The first time it came to closing time and they began to turn the lights off on the customers. Went again last night and as closing time came they began flipping the tables up all around us and sweeping so we got up to leave. I went to fill up my drink on the way out. They had turned it off so you couldn't get refills. This place is a joke! I will never go back!!!!!! Plenty of good places in the area to get tacos at a better price, that have good customer service.
