We tried Torii Japanese Inspired and overall had a really great experience. This place is great if you're looking for sushi that's higher quality than AYCE, and not as expensive as high high end sushi. We started with the hamachi crudo and salmon crudo, both tasted very fresh and bright. The yellowtail crudo was my favorite - the yuzu flavor really stood out and added a nice citrusy balance. We also ordered the spicy edamame, which had great flavor, along with the negi hamachi maki and negi toro maki. The maki rolls were pretty simple, but well-executed and tasty. The star of the meal was definitely the 6-piece chef's choice nigiri set. Each piece was nicely seasoned and honestly didn't need soy sauce. We were sitting at the bar and could see the care and effort the chef put into every piece, the fish was all so so good. On top of the food, the chef and staff were incredibly sweet and welcoming, which made the experience even better.

It seems like they might be under new management. When we went, they were doing a soft opening and gave us a limited menu, which wasn't what we were expecting since we had looked the place up beforehand. They also let us know they aren't licensed to serve alcohol yet, which was totally fine with us but good to know ahead of time. We ordered the salmon and tuna rolls, and both were well seasoned with good portion sizes. We also got the pork belly yakimono. One of the employees was nice enough to throw in the chicken yakimono for us to try, which I really appreciated. The pork belly was just okay, but the chicken was great and would recommend trying it! We also tried one of their weekly sashimi specials. It looked really nice, but I'd probably skip it next time. Overall, I think my main disappointment was not realizing how limited the menu would be, but I'm hopeful they'll expand it as they get settled. I'd be open to coming back and giving it another try!

High quality Japanese food. Everything we had was fresh and tasted delicious. I'm giving it a 4 because they were out of 3 of the entrees we wanted to order. Also, the service was decent. Our server wasn't as attentive; took him a while to bring out our drinks and silverware. Other than that, I think this is a great spot to have Japanese food at.

An amazing place to grab Japanese food in Katy. Super friendly service, clean and neat spot, very intimate space, great selection of items to pick from their menu. The highlight of the night was the Crudo as that was my favorite. The sashimi was good and the black miso cod had a very good and interesting taste. I highly recommend and would come back.

The food was so fresh and the fish was high quality. We had Omakase in NYC and this is comparable to the quality we had in NYC. The flavor was balanced. No complains at all. The place is definitely up scale. I walked in shorts and flip flops and felt under dressed. The service was fast and friendly. Highly recommend this place for celebration or a nice dinner

Torii might look like a humble establishment, but the care and quality in everything set in front of me was obvious. I'm not going to turn this into an odyssey because the pictures will speak for themselves. The white fish curry/soup was amazing, the truffle tuna is a Must, and the passionfruit sake was a fun sip after the pineapple sake. Service felt omakase style without the rigidity, and Happy Hour is the time to go if you're feeling adventurous. My friend and I were able to try a wide swath of the menu without wincing at the check.

If you're looking for exceptional sushi in Katy, Torri is a must-visit. The fish was incredibly fresh--honestly, some of the best sushi I've ever had. The experience felt upscale, yet the vibe was relaxed and casual, which made it very comfortable. One highlight was when the sushi chef brought out an entire aji (horse mackerel) to show us just how fresh it was. The chef even explained the preparation process, which added a personal and authentic touch to the meal. A quick note: the old menus on Yelp show hot dishes, but those weren't available during our visit--this spot is all about sushi. And they do it exceptionally well. If you appreciate top-quality fish and a chef who takes pride in their craft, Torri is worth the trip.

Stepping into Torii offered respite from the constant hustle of the shopping center. It looks like just another strip mall restaurant but true to its name, i felt transported to another world! The space is calm and peaceful. I loved the dark green walls with natural toned furnishings. Food was served on gorgeous ceramic dishes. The servers were phenomenal and the sushi chef We spent $109 before tax/tip for two people and left hungry. The food is definitely quality over quantity. The nigiri is delicately prepared with thoughtful flavors and toppings. Their weekday lunch specials is the best bet for value. When we come back, i'd order more appetizers and one of their donburis to fill up.

It's good. Is it the best? No. We found this place after going next door for dessert one day and decided we wanted to try Torii. And so we came back another day. When we walked in, there was 2 other parties but the restaurant was very empty with lots of tables. Despite multiple tables, we were seated next to a mom and her screaming baby. While I have compassion for how difficult motherhood is and how children will cry to communicate, it did 100% affect the dining experience. I'm not sure why we weren't offered to sit somewhere else at any point of the dining experience considering there were at least 4 other tables. Food also took a really long time. We weren't particularly in a rush but we were mindful of time. The appetizer came out fast while everything else took another 20 min after the appetizer came out to come out. I can understand being busy and backlogged. There's a lot of things we don't see behind the scenes, for example any takeout orders, if a party had a big order, understaffing, emergencies, etc. however, through my whole time here, there was only one take out order and that was already ready either before we ordered food or right after. There wasn't many diners either. The employees honestly seemed more concerned with getting ready for the lunch break and prepping than serving the customers. We ordered a hamachi crudo , chirashi bowl, and a shaken beef bento. The crudo came out fast, within within 10 minutes. But after that, it took quite a while to get food. Food was good. I liked the crudo as it was refreshing. Everything tasted decently fresh but nothing that blew me away. I likely won't be back. Just the whole experience wasn't great quite frankly. The server was nice though.

    Mushroom Nabe

5 stars for amazing food and service! I can't stop thinking about the mushroom nabe. It was so buttery, delicious and packed with umami. The nigiri special was equally tasty. My favorites were the amberjack nigiri, tuna nigiri, and hamachi crudo. Each had unique flavors. We also ordered chicken karaage that was fried well and served with house pickles and a creamy, decadent aioli. We will be back to try more food and maybe order a mushroom nabe for myself.

We came on a Saturday for lunch right before they closed for lunch service, the restaurant was fairly empty and we were seated right away. I had seen some good looking sushi pictures and happened to be in the area, so was excited to give this place a try. The big takeaway is that this place is VERY pricey, way more than we expected to pay for a lunch, and the portions are very small. Food: we had some nigiri and sushi roll from their daily special menu, as well as a chirashi and a bento box. The flavor was great, but the nigiri pieces were tiny! We ended paying over $200 for our lunch, which is a bit pricey for this type of establishment. Service: the waitress was attentive and answered all of our questions, although we were pretty much one of the only people in the restaurant. Ambiance: restaurant was clean, the year had soft music playing in the background While the meal was tasty, the portions were way too small and expensive.

I'm proud that they have servers of this caliber at Asian restaurants in Houston, TX. Usually you see professional servers at upscale restaurants. There was a busboy there towards the end, and even he was super professional. Whoever the manager is at this location, you guys are doing an outstanding job training the staff here. Keep up the good work! 2. Price - about $15/bowl. 3. Ambiance - The decor here is beautiful. There are natural lighting from the front, with wood panels everywhere, lanterns hung high. They did a nice job decorating the place and you definitely feel as if you're in Japan somewhere. 4. Food - This is where this place shines compare to all the ramen places in Houston. They have the option of low sodium broth. I took one sip, and it felt like home cooked Ramen. I'm not talking about instant ramen that you buy from the store, but the ramen made from scratch. I often go to ramen places in Houston and I dread going because I know how salty they taste. There are 2 other locations I have in mind in Houston that are also my favorites. But I would say this is not bad compared to the bowl of ramen I had in Narita, Japan. If you're wondering what I've ordered, it was the CHICKEN RICH RAMEN and make sure to request for low sodium. 5. Cleanliness - Dining area is well kept, clean, and the busboy is on top of things. The restroom is questionable. The personal restroom doors are hard to close and lock. For management, have a look at the restrooms and see if you can improve things. SUMMARY: I would definitely come back. It is just THAT GOOD!

Something forgotten. Something tasty…read more Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya is a well-dressed ramen shop with an impressive interior design. The food overall was tasty. I was so hungry I forgot to get a photo of the initial presentation, but the noodles were perfect and the broth was tasty. Other than that, it was pretty lackluster: the soft-boiled egg was hard and one of the grossest eggs I've had, and the chashu was cold. We also ordered some chicken karaage, but that never showed, and our waiter was too busy to stop by so I could tell him. I'm not familiar with the ramen scene in Houston, but Kizuki was a huge letdown, especially with their roots to Japan. ご馳走様でした

The selection is a bit more limited for lunch, but the price is lower than dinner as well. Being AYCE, I wouldn't expect the highest quality, type, and cut of fish, but what they had was pretty solid, tasted fresh, and was delicious. A minor complaint would be they had no sashimi option, even for the tamago which I personally believe is eaten best without rice, but that's just minor stuff considering the good value here. As much as I try to find a reason not to give this place an outstanding rating, if I compare it to the AYCE category of restaurants, it did everything right. They do have a regular a la carte menu, with a selection that looks like a treat in itself. As for me, I highly enjoyed their jalapeno bomb to start. I highly doubt they used snow crab, tasted like imitation crab, but I enjoyed it nevertheless and got another order at the end. I tried a few nigiri while I was here, with eel being my favorite (and thank goodness for no bones, which was lucky because it's eel). Their tacos were an unexpected standout and is worth a bite or two. Using sheets of nori and frying it to it holds up like a shell is pretty genius and more places need to do this. I had a good time with their Burning Alaska signature maki, which has salmon as the main star. The smokiness from torching was a killer! Their curry reminded me of S&B, which might very well be the mix they used. I was a bit disappointed to not see fish katsu as an option considered it's a sushi place, but I can see the katsu curry selection being a good option as a comfort dish. I wish I had the stomach space to try out new stuff, but maybe next time. Wish someone would post a photo of the salmon skin salad, because I'm a bit curious about that!
