We celebrated our 10 year Anniversary. The service was good. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and friendly. Atmosphere was great with a nice view of downtown. We ordered the guacamole, corn empanadas, and short rib tacos. Everything was delicious, but as you'll see from the pictures it was small portions for such a high price. The main entree hubby ordered Bison ribeye 18oz and I ordered their specialty salmon, with a side of lobster Mac and cheese. The steak was very juicy and tasty, but it looked more like 10oz steak. As for dessert, I was a little disappointed with the size and presentation. Usually, restaurants make a big deal of a celebration but all our dessert had was a small chocolate bar that said congratulations. Waiter was nice but runners brought us the wrong food 3 times, and not only our table but multiple tables in the restaurant and then they would take the plates and take them to another table after potentially someone else touched them. I have a few things I judge a place on, and one is their French 75- this one was marvelous. I also cannot stress enough how large a compliment it is for a place when I finish my entree. I usually get half my meal to go... it's just how I eat. These tuna tacos were so goddamn incredible that I practically licked my plate clean. And this was after sharing the tartare appetizer! I've been to Toro Toro several times and it's consistently solid. The cocktails and appetizers I've tried are all good, except the guacamole has been overly salty on a couple occasions. For the mains I highly recommend the mixed meat platter (chicken, steak and lamb) or tomahawk steak with a fun table side presentation. Both feed 2-3 people if you order a couple side dishes. The lobster mac and cheese is the best I've had. I've always had good servers. I'll agree with some of the reviewers that the ambience does feel a little like a hotel lobby (although the restaurant is located on the second floor) but it's very nice and didn't bother me. read more

TLDR: don't go; service is absolutely horrible, and food is just OK. Toro Toro is the new restaurant that replaced Quattro in the Four Seasons in downtown Houston. I was super excited to try the new spot, as I like the bar downstairs, and it's the Four Seasons. Unfortunately, the service was just so, so, so terrible, and the food was fine. There are some hotel restaurants that make you forget that they're part of hotels; for example, Xochi is such a fantastic restaurant, and you forget that it's part of a massive convention center hotel. Unfortunately, that's not the case with Toro Toro--it's definitely a hotel restaurant. Yes, if I was traveling for business and staying at the Four Seasons and expensing my meals, I would order room service from Toro Toro, but, otherwise, I wouldn't recommend it. I could go on and on about the different examples of terrible service at Toro Toro, but it just doesn't live up to the Four Seasons brand. We waited 20 minutes for our cocktails and then another 20 minutes after we ordered wine. My water was never refilled throughout the meal, except once when I specifically requested it. One of the items we ordered never came out, and our server bizarrely acted like she was doing us a favor by not charging us for it. And note that there are "bad tables" at Toro Toro. Some of the seating is out in a bar area--these are the "bad tables," as hotel events (think weddings, galas, etc.) can kind of flow out into these areas and disrupt the dinner experience. These tables would be fine if they were going for a casual, cafe vibe, but that's definitely not the case here. A good restaurant shouldn't even have "bad tables." To be fair, the redone restaurant is pretty--I didn't recognize anything from the old Quattro restaurant, except the epically slow glass elevator that takes you up to the restaurant. And, the food we ordered (at least, the food we ordered that actually arrived at our table) was pretty good. The smoked guacamole, while gimmicky with the "smoked" presentation, was very tasty, and I particularly liked the plantain chips that came with the guac. My steak was tender, and I really liked the carrots we ordered as a side dish. The potatoes three ways side was good too, though the server who dropped it off on our table shrugged as he announced that it didn't include the oxtail gravy that's advertised on the menu, oh well. Second trip to Toro Toro - Christmas Eve - 2023. Its been two years since our last visit, and I'm upgrading them to 5 stars, mostly based on great flavors on every bite we had. We sampled the short rib tacos, Birria Baos, and the Sea Scallop Tiradito for appetizers. While the tacos and tiradito were excellent, the Birria Baos stole the show. So good and flavorful. A little messy, but in a good way. They will be on my must order list for each return visit. We enjoyed the wedge salad as a mid course and for the entree we chose the Lomo Saltodo along with a side of the Trumpet Mushrooms. The mushrooms stood up to the high praise from my previous review and will be a staple for any future visits, but the Lomo Saltado served over a risotto style creamy rice was one of the best versions of this dish that I've ever tried. The beef was tender, but with some texture, the rice a perfect creaminess, and the sauces boosted and enhanced the flavor. We like to try different entrees when we repeat dine, but it will be difficult to not order this on our next visit. Oscar our waiter was attentive and made absolutely wonderful recommendations. The food was so good. It literally had 2 out of 3 of us dancing at the table. We got the Toro Toro Churrasco with a side of potatoes and broccolini. It was the perfect portion for the three of us. We literally negotiated who would get the last bites of all the foods. Some of the most excellent service and food I've had in a long time. Our party of 8 came for dinner on a Saturday night after my boyfriend's graduation, his family was staying at the Four Seasons so it was convenient for us to go. This place is a very cleverly named Latin-Japanese fusion restaurant. The atmosphere of the area was very serene and peaceful; the lights were dim so it was easy to see, the tables were spaced nicely apart from other parties, the décor was very cozy feeling. I think it would be an excellent spot for a fancy two-person date out. Unfortunately, I don't remember our server's name, but she was excellent. She had a great smile and was very attentive to the table without hovering. Our glasses were never empty, and we never had to ask for drink refills. Our server was very sweet, and explained things in detail about dishes we had questions about. She also knew how to pour wine in what I imagine is the 'proper' way. I don't quite know the proper way to do that, but she seemed to know. It was so fancy. As for the food I tried, we first ordered several orders of the Jamón Ibérico (not pictured). The ham alone had so much flavor, I felt like you could chew it for several minutes and not run out of said flavor. The bread was grilled nicely, and I didn't try the sauce with it. The presentation was also very nice; the ham is held up on hooks, like a little ham clothesline. The ham was soft, easy to eat, and didn't need any sauce or additions to taste wonderful. They brought out some corn chips and plantain chips to the table, and those were a nice neutral palate cleanser. For my meal, I ordered the Lomo Saltado (pictured). The beef was cooked very well and was not chewy or tough- it was quite easy to eat texture wise. The meat was packed full of flavor, I got the sauce on the side and didn't even need to use it. The rice was my favorite though, surprisingly. It was creamy without being too wet or mushy, and to be honest, I didn't know that much flavor could be in rice. Overall, it was a good dish - 7/10. I did try a bite of my boyfriend's salmon, which I personally liked better, but I was also satisfied with what I got. For dessert, we tried La Bomba (not pictured), a really lovely conglomerate dish that had house-made ice cream, pastries, fresh fruit, sweet crumble and came in a house-made chocolate shell. I was shocked at how much I loved the strawberry ice cream; I typically don't care for it at all, but it was my absolute favorite. The ice cream was rich without being too sweet, and had a great creamy flavor. The pastries were also excellent. It came together really nicely. They gave my boyfriend the Yellow Corn Cake (pictured) as well, and wrote a nice little 'Congratulations' on a piece of chocolate. For what it was, I think it was good, but it just wasn't my type of dessert. It was beautiful though. We also really loved the dishware they used, and they got the in-house manager to help us navigate where to purchase some of our own. The empanadas are tremendous! The service, the ambiance, the decor...all top notch. Wonderful art and wonderful visual features. Great drinks. Great wine selections. However....our Chilean Sea Bass, although it was presented nicely, overall it lacked flavor. It just wasn't special. Our waiter wasn't apologetic what so ever about the food delays & rolled his eyes at our frustration with the slow service and the fact that my husband was on his lunch break. After the sushi finally came, we waited another 15 minutes before our entrees came out and they again came out at different times leaving half of us eating while the others waited. My MiL ordered the burger and loved it. The rest of us ordered the steak frites and all agreed that the steak was so fatty it was hard to eat. It took us about 15 mins to get seated upon arrival. We were slightly confused on who our actual server was because no one came to the table to get drink orders, etc. i had to ask the manager to find out who our server was. We arrived at 745 and were not seated until 8. We were officially done at 10:30! Also, they have a card rule where you can only use up to 4 credit cards. After checking out the menu were couldn't wait to try Toro Toro! With a venue housed inside of the Four Seasons, we were sure this place would impress, but we ended up being a bit displeased. We ordered a tea that was forgotten, which is very understandable, we all have memory bobbles, but then the appetizer didn't come either after a reminder the appetizer then came almost 15-20 minutes after our lunch entrees were served. Our reservation was after 1pm on a weekday, so the restaurant wasn't packed only about four tables seated, so we were surprised by the multiple bobbles. Our plantain chips were also forgotten when our ceviche was served. The salmon was over cooked making it pretty dry, the burger was dry and the plantain chips for the ceviche were burned. The next day we returned and the wait time was horrible we waited almost an hour for our breakfast. Saw lots of others also not very happy with the amount of time they had been waiting. I had the eggs Benedict and it was pretty good but the potatoes were depressing. I asked the server if I could get the same potatoes I had last time and he told me they ran out. The ones I was given with my meal tasted like frozen potatoes, they were stale and cold. My husband had the avocado toast which he really enjoyed. The waiter gave me a side of fruit to make up for the potatoes. The fruit was fresh, no complaint there. I only kept returning because it was the only breakfast place at the hotel that was open early and we had a daily breakfast credit. Our experience there did not improve because on the Third day we ordered the Huevos with Machaca and they brought scrambled eggs out with no meat. When they replaced the dish it took a whole 5 minutes for them to return with a similar plate that had crumbles of meat that looked like bacon bits. The pancakes I ordered were also nothing great. They were dry with only a bit of caramel on the top pana cake and a few strawberries. I had to ask for a side of berries, butter and syrup to really enjoy the pancakes . Visited during Houston restaurant week and they had a special offered specifically for this time. There were some things on this menu that weren't customizable so I opted to order from the regular menu. The table settings were dim and perfect for a nice date night, we also were seated near their beautiful fireplace. Everything we ordered was great!!! My half chicken I could tell was seasoned to perfection and/or marinated I could taste seasoning on top and under the chicken skin *chefs kiss*. Not pictured we also had the Blackened Tuna Taco's as a starter from the restaurant week menu and they were BOMB. I would recommend the churros as they were lite and flavorful, the corn cake was better described as a slice of delicious pie similar to cheesecake consistency and had a plain flavoring. We had a wonderful experience with our waitress, Layla, and assistant general manager, Aubrey. Nothing but top notch service from Toro Toro at the Four Seasons. This restaurant replaced Quattro, and we were extremely satisfied! We tried many dishes, the ones that stood out were the corn empanadas, the sushi rolls - my mom had the sea bass, which see said was very light and flavorful. The highlight of the night was the table cut Toro Toro Churrasco. Layla brought the cutting board table side, and cut up the meats in front of us. She even added enough salt and butter to eventuate the flavor of the meats. All of the meats, from the chicken, lamb, and pichania, were all tender and flavorful. To top off the night, we had the La Bomba for dessert. This was presented at the table, over a plastic film, and dropped for unique presentation. The dessert had the perfect amount of sweetness, of the ice cream, fruits, chocolate and brownies. Overall experience was laid back, with a nice open atmosphere.
