The Toronto Airport have a train station for Union Pearson Express (UP Express) that takes you to Union Station in Downtown Toronto in 28 minutes. It was a comfortable and relaxing train ride that snowy, windy and cold day. I enjoyed the scenic and pretty view from the train. On the day of my departure, I took the first trip of the train in Union Station at 5am to arrive at the Toronto Pearson International Airport early to go through the lines at check-in, TSA and security. I recently traveled through Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) on a Porter Airlines to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). This was my first experience with this airport and honestly had no idea it even existed, as I've always traveled through Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Opened in 1939 as Port George VI Island Airport, then in 1990 renamed to Toronto City Centre Airport, and then in 2009 renamed to its current name of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport after the WWI Canadian pilot flying ace and WWII Air Marshal, William "Billy" Bishop. It served mostly short-hauled flights to destinations across Canada and the USA by Air Canada and Porter Airlines. To access the airport, there was a free-use pedestrian tunnel, ferry service, and of course by car. As of 2025, it was ranked Canada's 12th busiest airport, and has proven to be a viable option to Toronto Pearson International Airport, especially if your destination was Old Toronto. Would I consider Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport for my next trip into Canada or Toronto specifically!? PURCHASE(S) Porter Airlines ($226.00CAD / $161.54USD): Purchased online as a partner with Alaska Airlines prior to my departing flight, I'll cover this with more details in a separate review. SERVICE Upon arrival, Customs and Security were a breeze especially since I only had one carry-on and a backpack, my digital ticket was safely on my phone, and all directional signage was straightforward. Upon departure, it was pretty much the same. The only people I actually dealt with were the usually stoic Customs Agents; otherwise, I was self-sufficient and didn't need any assistance. Getting in and out of the terminals was a very pleasant experience - thank you! PARKING (Varied; N/A this instance) There were parking structures with both short- and long-term options. However, this airport had a very good transit system that consisted of buses, taxi cab service, and Lyft or Uber stations. So, why would you park!? But, if you needed to park a vehicle, hourly rates up to a 2-hour maximum were about $5.00CAD per 20 minutes. Daily rates from self-parking to valet started from $35.00CAD and up. ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A smallish-sized spacious airport with parking structures, one passenger terminal and an aforementioned convenient transit system! Once inside, easily marked directional escalators, stairs, bright electric lighting, a nice mix of natural lighting as you made your way through parts of the airport, minimal shops and reasonably-priced eateries along the way to your gate. Various advertisements and decorations hung from the walls which gave the place some color. Additionally, there was an exhibit, plane, and a statue, all with some historical significance. The walking aisles were wide and had signage in various languages. There were TV monitors throughout while announcements over the loudspeakers and the chatter of fellow travelers served as your background music. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. I liked to be unencumbered and unfettered, so the least amount of clothing, especially while I traveled through an airport the better! OVERALL Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) was a pleasant surprise due to easy navigation, all helpful smiling employees, and the simple ease of everything. The airport was limited in scope from the airlines it served to the dining and shopping options mainly due to its size, but what you had was more than sufficient and straightforward. Generally-speaking, the less time I spent at an airport the better. I found very good value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $259.00CAD BEFORE any discounts and/or tip). And, although I didn't actually purchase anything at the airport itself, all businesses inside and outside accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 4.0 STARS

I typically land in the evenings and probably half the time or so the ground crew isn't prepared for us, there's someone in our gate, or something else goes on. I'm currently on the runway after landing, and the pilot can't reach anyone from operations to bring in our plane (and our gate's occupied). The guy behind me said the same thing happened last week, they couldn't reach anyone, and they sat on the tarmac for 45 minutes The pilot just told us that they still can't reach anyone and that he needs to shut off the engine to conserve gas because the Buffalo airport also has no gas to refuel any planes tonight. Oof! For a growing regional airport with a recent expansion and upgrade, they HAVE TO figure this out and increase their staffing. I travel all over the country (to all sizes of airports) and don't have this issue anywhere else. C'mon Buffalo!!

One Tim Hortons is located before going through security which offers hot food and drinks. The other one is located after security and it only serves drinks. I would recommend bringing your own food as the selections are pretty limited and that's what I did. When boarding you will need to walk outside as it's not connected to the airport. It certainly takes less time to get in and out from the airport as it's less busy compared to Pearson.

It is 40 miles from Toronto so not ideal if you're visiting the city as it does not have the same high speed rail as Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ). Currently serving three "low cost carriers", Play, Sunwing and WestJet fly from here to Iceland, Mexico and, yes, Calgary. There are also bus transfers operated by Air Canada to Pearson. Lots of open parking, lots of great signage pointing the way and super easy to get onto a highway and away from here. No lounges that I could see. This is THE AIRPORT known for the Flair plane running off the runway track. It was also known for no lounge access and limited to no food options, but thing have changed. It's also the airport known for the longest time as a difficult public transit accessible airport. So I thought to give an update on things. The airport is situated in Breslau, it is a difficult airport to get to if you are relying on public transit. From most popular access points in Waterloo, Kitchener and Cambridge it can take about an hour via GRT bus service. This is a bus service for the local. They at one point did on call reservation pick up from a certain location that was still quite remote. Not there's a general bus that connects at Maple Grove where the loblaws supply chain-improvements but still a struggle. I personally have not taken it because I'm usually with a companion and it's $4 per person and a Lyft can cost $15. Second I'm usually travelling with oversized luggage the size of a body bag. The airport does have parking but it's pretty expensive and seasonally, namely the winter time economic lots are closed. But the lot does have flexible 90min free parking onsite so if you just want to wait and pick up it's an option. There are ride share pick up at the front, but I truly struggle to book Lyft, often putting a request and waiting forever. Uber seems to be only option and that can cost $20. This airport is comprised of three gates, there is a cafe now inside the secured area, there is washroom, water fountain, plenty of seating with plugs in every seat. No lounge access. This airport services Westjet and Flair and private planes. It also services Landline that transfers to Toronto-but you can't do security clearance then go straight to secured area at Toronto Pearson like some of the landline service in USA. So it's an easy ride, comfortable but unstable seat trays for laptop work for a $40 transfer with reasonable internet speed. There are other options for $10-25 in the area to transfer to Toronto Pearson without spending $20 to travel to the airport. If you happen to take Flair or Westjet, the oversized baggage is really easy to clear, and there are two security lines for xray (possibly three lines can be setup-looks like the equipment is already setup). There is no nexus express line here- so arriving a little early can help you avoid the general line. Definitely worth giving this airport a try if you haven't done so. CBSA is here- but changed to the only platform for custom clearing no longer requires visiting this airport in person.

Genesee County is a general aviation airport in Batavia with runways 10 and 28 measured at around…read more5,500 ft. It is a favorite airport of mine to go for a nice sunset flight from Buffalo. Not even halfway, on clear days you can see the skyline of both Rochester and Buffalo. The airport has a relatively long runway, no landing fees and the fuel here is competitively priced and usually one of the lowest in the region. It is very close to the I-90 (in fact, my downwind for 28 is generally right above the 90) and if you follow the interstate, you will inevitably spot it from the air. Once you park your aircraft and walk inside, you will see a meeting room, a bunch of TVs with weather radar looping and a kitchen that likely still has some stale coffee you can help yourself to (I mean that in the nicest way possible). The people who work here are super nice and the facility offers both 100LL and Jet Fuel. Self-serve is predictably cheaper and for them to fill up your gas is usually about $0.40/c a gallon more. During my flight training, it was the first airport other than Lancaster that I solo'd to so it always will have a special place in my heart. Not to mention it has an ILS system for instrument approaches and you'll often see many people here practicing. Oh, pattern elevation is 1,912ft and field elevation is 912 ft.
