They have roaches!! in the water floating inside my water cup it was so disgusting and when we told the waitress she was so rude didn't even care and still charged us full price for everything. Roaches travel in packs when there's one there's a dozen more this place needs a health inspection ASAP and a new staff while there at it!!! 7/21/19 I went to Tortilla Flats today and saw a rat on the floor next to where I was seated. I told the waitress and she looked for no more than 30 seconds and told me that they've been doing "spring cleaning" with their back doors open and that just recently a squirrel went in the back. I still ordered my meal (cheese quesadilla) and she brought me a quesadilla with green chilies and she said that it wasn't just the cheese I asked for. I had to hesitate to take the plate so that she can redo my order and she almost didn't take it back. So that also pissed me off because she wanted me to say "oh that's fine" and just take the plate I didn't order. Went in today for lunch after visiting the DMV. I ordered the Nacho Special, which is a nacho with meat, cheese, beans, sourcream and guac. My husband ordered the chicken tacos. My Nachos were not very good, they added some kind of sweet sauce in it...Maybe to cover up the fact they don't flavor their meat. My husbands tacos were bland. The chips were stale and the salsa came out of a can of diced tomatoes. It's pretty disappointing and I think I'd rather be hungry then eat at this establishment. The waitresses were very nice, but I feel bad that they have to wear those short dresses, as they were older ladies and honestly...who really wants to see that much leg while eating, they were very short dresses on these older women, it cannot be comfortable for them and trust me nobody else either. Their food gets 4 stars and their vibe gets 2. Could definitely use some updated interior design and I think the waitress's outfits could use some updating as well. It honestly just feels stuck in the early 90s. Seems like the kind of place that only regulars are going to really appreciate. The food however was actually really delicious! I got a chile con carne burrito and my fiancé got a chimichanga - both were great! Their chips weren't my favorite but I've had much worse. The salsa was pretty good though. If the vibe was more welcoming it could be one of my favorite Mexican food places in redding. The prices for the food would be more reasonable if it were redesigned as well. Worse experience and food. We walked in got seated. We waited 15 minutes for our waters which we only got because we had to ask the manager. I ordered the "meatball" soup. It arrived steaming hot. When I was able to eat it, I was disappointed. It tasted like onion and celery. There was rice in the soup so over cooked it was mushy gross. The meatballs didn't have any flavor and the meat texture was off. I assume again it had been on to High a temp for too long. When our plates finally arrived (the manager brought them out and informed our server they had been up) the plate couldn't be touch they were so hot. They had been under the warmer so long the rice and beans had got dried out on top. People talk so highly of Tortilla Flats. For me and my guests it just feel flat. Wow! They are back. Now that the original owner and family are back running the place it has improved dramatically. Food quality so much better. In talking to the owner Katy, she tells us that all the sauces are made from scratch daily as well as soups, salsa and guacamole. All produce and meat are from the locals. Total remodel. New expanded bar, new booths and new paint . Great happy hour deals on food and drinks. Like the old days when you were lucky to get in without the wait, yet, usually no waiting. I have tried Tortilla Flats due to its location close to my place of employment twice now. The first time a friend said, and I quote "Let's go get some greasy tacos". And we did. On that occasion business was slow, and the waitress was friendly and attentive. And as far as greasy tacos go, they were, greasy. Not having a lot of time today, and having lunch with my son, we decided to give them another try. It was moderately busy, and we were seated curtly by one of the owners (sorry to put you out, it won't happen again). The busboy brought chips and canned-tomato salsa promptly, but dropped them and ran. He likely did this because he was tired of taking the abuse the waitress deserved. No drinks for 5 minutes. I was thinking about leaving. The waitress almost attacked our table, took our drink and food order, and disappeared. After another short eternity, as we were asking the busboy about our drinks (2 sodas, nothing mixed, nothing blended), she came charging across with the drinks. Moments later our food arrived. Greasy, bland, and left in the salamander too long, so even the top of the rice and beans were dry and toasted. I like bread toasted, not my rice and beans. My son noted that this was the first Mexican restaurant he'd been in that had absolutely no hot sauce on the tables. Not a big deal normally, just ask your attentive server. Whoops, I forgot which restaurant I was talking about. No hot sauce, the salsa wasn't worth using. I feel like I lost an hour of my life I will never get back, and they stole my money. There are a multitude of restaurants in Redding and the surrounding area that will treat you well and appreciate your business. This one couldn't have cared less that we were there. read more

The salsa might as well of been ketchup had no flavor spice or heat. Ordered the chicken taco and chicken enchilada with beans and rice not a whole lot of flavor. On a recent outing to find the best day bar and bartender the Stalker Club of Redding (S.C.O.R.) visited a old favorite place to eat for Mexican Food Tortilla Flats. To our surprise we found the bar to be clean and bigger than we thought it would be. Prices were high for being there during the day but we found out later that the "Happy Hour" did not start till 4pm not 3pm when we were there. Our bartender Kim was a delight and made our visit better than what the bar actually was. Bar owners take note that you can have a so-so place but a good bartender can make your place rise above others. we rate this place a three and a half mainly due to Kim. If you want a beer during the day we suggest this pace to go to but go after 4pm. read more

Oh my let me start. The food was so bad. I had a beef taco platter and i found so much fat in my taco it was not meant for human or animal consumption. In fact, we went right to McDonald's afterwards. The salsa is disgusting and is basically crushed tomatoes from a can. I ordered the Carne Asada. The meat was flavorless and over cooked, as was the beans and rice. The lettuce was brown and the tomatoes tasted funny. We thought we would play it safe and order chicken nuggets and fries for my four year old daughter, but she spit out the first bite of a French fry and didn't eat her chicken nuggets because they were burned and overly saturated with grease.
