We recently had to make the difficult decision of letting our 14 year old Morkie Max cross the rainbow bridge. As difficult as it was, we met with Dr. Barb and spent some time going over his symptoms, behaviors and overall physical abilities and she listened with compassion, empathy and understanding. She gave us a lot of information to consider when making a decision as hard as this could be but she never made us feel like we were making the wrong decision either way. We were allowed to say our proper goodbyes, spend as much time as we needed and the staff was very delicate and compassionate in handling Max in his final moments. We ultimately let Max go, but we are glad Dr. Barb and the staff supported our decision. We recently received Max's remains back and we can tell he was taken care of. I called here to ask a few questions to see if they were able to take my dog since she was a large breed. Some vets only have the capabilities to do surgeries on small animals so I was calling around to see who could take my pup. The woman who answered the phone was incredibly unfriendly. When I asked if they were able to do surgery on a large breed the woman was rude in her response telling me they couldn't take my dog till June. Timing isn't a huge deal. We aren't in a rush as she isn't in a ton of pain. I would be willing to wait but not for this place. It's unnecessary to be rude to potential customers read more

I would give a zero if I could, because that is the level of service they provided me. I asked to see their boarding facility before boarding my dog there. They said that they would not show me the boarding facility, but I would have to trust them because of their "excellent" reputation. The first women I spoke with said that they could not even provide pictures. What kind of facility is so arrogant(?) that they think a person would entrust their dog to a facility sight unseen. I complained directly to Dr Whitworth, who then said I could view the dog boarding area, but I would need to coordinate with the Office Manager. Guess what, no call backs from the office manager even after two requests. Based on my first and second interaction with this company, I would never consider them for any of my pet needs. read more

There is a reason this place is 5 stars! I recently moved to McKinney, and it took me two months to find a vet with having to research places locally while avoiding horrible reviews. Dr. Kline was awesome with meeting our two 13-year old pugs, both of which are on necessary medications. He gladly added their meds on record and provided over-the-counter recommendations to help with my concerns (versus trying to push me on more prescription meds and other products they sell!). I like that all shots were done in the exam room with us (as opposed to behind the scenes like some places), and he even got the nasal Bordetella through their tiny smooshed noses easily! Their prices are very reasonable! How do I know? I compared them with my hometown vet's prices in small town, Oklahoma, which were way cheaper than our Dallas vet...and they were similar to the Oklahoma prices. Some shots were more, some were less, and it all equaled out. That's impressive for a Proser vet, which I expected to be similar to Dallas. It was surprisingly quick to grab an appointment, and the place looked very clean. I learned grooming appointments can book out 1-2 weeks, so plan ahead for them! Even though we didn't meet Dr. Whitworth, I have to say...Go Pokes!!! We found our new vet - highly recommend!! read more

The two Dr W's and Dr Kline all have taken time to listen to my concerns and my dog's health history. I've read a few reviews here where folks have said the prices are unfair or these guys are just trying to charge extra -- I can tell you from past experience in various cities and states that these guys are surprisingly inexpensive and haven't given me anything unnecessary. Today was our first visit at Total Care Animal Hospital and could not have had a better experience. Dr. Barb is so kind and friendly and took wonderful care of our cat. She really listened to us when explaining how feisty our cat can be at home trying to put in ear drops and offered good options of administering antibiotics. Thank you, Dr. Barb! The ABSOLUTE WORST! I had taken my dog in Friday when she was having difficulty walking. Dr Kline did an exam and told me she was probably having some spine problems. I had to ask for him to draw labs. The next day she was declining fast I called to see if I could get her in again & they said no. Not to mention they never even called me with her lab results To this day. I had to go to an emergency vet (VEG Allen the best) and they requested her lab work. Her creatinine was not in a normal range so they should have called me. My dog ended up in kidney failure and had to stay the at emergency vet for several days. It's unfortunate because I've always loved coming here but after this last time, we have decided a new vet is needed. Dr Kline has always been amazing with my pets and I'm not sure if he even knows how awful his staff are. My puppy had been in the ER vet over the weekend and I called to have him seen since the ER didn't do anything but X-rays and he was still sick. This was Tuesday and I was told the earliest we could be seen was Friday! We even had to drive to Dallas because there wasn't a vet available within 20 minutes of here and my puppy was still vomiting and not in good shape. I was absolutely appalled by this and it's not the first time his staff lacked any compassion nor did anything to see if they could accommodate. It's sad if Dr. Kline knows this is happening and if he doesn't I sure hope he figures it out sooner vs later. He's a great vet but I want someone who cares about clients and is willing to help when able. Not push pets off especially when you've been a client for a few years. read more

Well my 6 year old English Bulldog died after surgery while waking him up. It happens with Humans as well, still breaks your heart. They lost my best friends collar, and paw print from Cremators they sent me was from a small dog, Not my BooBoo which had huge paws, looked like they were from a Beagle sized dog, tossed in trash and called to complain, wont help with loss of my Big Boy BooBoo, it's been several weeks and still miss him, Texas men want the collars to hang on rear view mirrors in there trucks, I was screwed out of Both. We just moved to McKinney and suddenly one of our dogs get an upset stomach that's causing him and us lots of distress and clean up duty. I woke up on a Saturday morning and really needed a vet to see him. Fortunately, Total Care has an opening virtually right away! When I called, I was immediately greeted with care and concern. They took my info all by phone so we'd be ready to go when we arrived. We checked in quickly and got settled in a room and Dr. Whitworth saw him right away. He thoroughly checked him out and wasn't overly quick to overcharge for elaborate testing. With a basic fecal float he was able to quickly ascertain that it was most likely colitis caused by stress from our move or something he ate. We got a quick probiotic prescription and flagyl which helped quickly get him back on the mend. We'll return in a few weeks with our other dog for his vaccines. We had a great experience. read more

Dr. Whitworth and his staff are great. My dog had a skin infection that I had seen another vet about last summer. The other vet told me it was an allergy by just looking at it. Dr Whitworth actually did a skin scraping and gave him a shot and medication and a shampoo. He is a wonderful doctor who really cares about animals and their parents! read more

We have a new bulldog puppy which they supposedly are experts in...which is why we went. felt like a fast food drive thru...in and out in 3 mins and then dog was never fully taken care of. Then when you call back they can never fit you in for several days. Seems they care more about just pumping pets thru and getting fees as opposed to actually helping the pet. They tell you to go to ER or wait until they can fit you in several days out. Ridiculous read more

We switched because our other vet became too commercialized and started caring more about their bottom dollar and all the things they could try and get us to buy along with them only being available at inconvenient hours. The vets at Total Care Animal Hospital are caring, have plenty of time for you, listen to all of your concerns and give you their expert opinions and advice. They finally solved my Shih Tzu's skin issues by prescribing the correct medication instead of trying to sell me something I don't need like the last place who kept recommending I do an allergy test or something else expensive. So happy to have someone just tell me what to do to get my pets healthy. They have very competitive prices for the prescriptions and I don't feel like they overcharge me for anything.
