Excellent quality equipment, so much space, and the long opening hours, never feel overwhelmed. Wont return to small gym anymore. Highly recommended. read more
I've been coming to total fitness for a couple of years now as it ticks a lot of boxes for a reasonable price. Great facilities including pools, a hydro pool, jacuzzi, saunas etc. Large fitness area with lots of equipment, indoor running track, outdoor football pitches and a womens only gym. At £45 a month, I felt a bit out of pocket as the facilities were getting a little outdated over recent months.. Earlier this year I don't think anything had been redone or changed in over a decade. In spring 2014 however, the gym had a bit of a revamp. A new lick of paint and some new equipment finally came in which is great to use. The new treadmills are a dream to run on ! However, the pool area really could do with an update. Hopefully the funding will come through and we will see some changes shortly! For me, the womens only gym is the real seller at total fitness. Lots of free weights and cardio equipment behind closed doors (sorry guys). It's always quiet and you can lift weights and workout in peace !! The gym is easy to get to, either via the a34 bypass or the back roads inbetween Cheadle hulme and Bramhall. There's a cafe, health shop, hairdresser, barber, laser suite(?), sun beds and one of those hypo suction suite things (where you go running or cycling in what looks like a wet suit... Rather you than me). There is also a nursery for smaller children and an area with xboxes etc. If you want to let the older kids hang out for a bit while you get your sweat on. Massive car park, always plenty of parking. Staff are quite pleasant and welcoming. Personal training is available although at a cost. Hundreds of different classes ! Overall, a very good gym that just needs a little bit of work to get it up to five stars ! read more

For those ladies who really do NOT want to get changed after a swim, in front of gawping Primary School kids,... these are the times to avoid Total Fitness. Monday 1 - 2.30... Tuesday 12.30 - 1.30 Thursday 1.30 - 2.30 and Friday 12.45 - 2.15. The local primary school children have swimming lessons on one side of the pool, which is fine actually. The problem starts when they go to the changing room, and see adults with no clothes on. This is hugely traumatic for both children and adults. And totally wrong. I do hope that the management at Total Fitness will understand that it really isn't fair to put adults in this situation, and provide some area of the Primary School children to change in. Its bad enough with a ten year old boy (with his mum) is gawping at ladies getting changed... that's deeply creepy and awful, but at least if you spot one of those, a lady can go into a private changing locker. It is far far worse to be naked and then a LOAD of children come in, and there you are... totally terrified and humiliated, grabbing your things quickly, trying to get away from them. Its beyond awful. So. These are the time to avoid, ladies. I've no idea if the gentlemen have to put up with this too. Usually the Total Fitness management put the ladies into this humiliating situation, (thanks a lot guys... you've brought the spirit of Trump to Wilmslow... ) Its so sad, because otherwise, this is a really good club. Great facilities and a wonderful pool. But for the price that you pay for membership, the lack of respect for your privacy and safety, amid the Primary school children ... is really too much. And I wonder if anyone will EVER do anything about this? Sadly, I think they wont. read more

Total Fitness, Wilmslow, October 2015: Gym has now got far worse, even after refurbishment. After a workout I am left seriously wondering whether I have been in a crèche or a gym. Machines are all the same and no variety. People on reception would sooner look away than have any kind of eye contact with you - unless it is a young girl who talks to the guys all the time. There are machines that are never used and this doesn't seem to make the gym staff stop to wonder why and maybe replace them with machines people would like. All in all, a gym that does not cater for its members at all. Every time I go, I try and catch the receptionist eye but they choose to stare into space or 'play about' with other members of staff. The only reason I am still there is that it is close to where I work. I absolutely hate the whole gym experience at Total Fitness. read more

Poor for the price. Air temperatures in the changing areas and shower water temperatures are too cold. Mildew in the shower cubicles. Over-run with little children. Very often 3 lanes are taken up (Main Pool) with children's group swimming lessons. This makes the environment noisy and restricted for swimming lengths - not what I pay to come here for. I know this set up offers a family friendly environment but actually it does NOT offer sufficient conveniently timed protected adult access time so that you can swim in peace . I dread to think what it is like during the school summer holidays! Wish I hadn't taken out a 12 month contract. read more

Great gym great facility's, however the staff could be friendlier and really need to engage their customers more so as to make a great customer experience. I see many members lifting incorrectly so wouldn't you think the trainers would give a bit of friendly advice, you never know they may even get a new customer. All in all this gym has a lot to offer but needs to brush up on its people skills. read more

Total Fitness is a disgrace I have been unwell for a month with a severe cough which I developed after swimming at Aintree branch which escalated into a severe and prolonged chest infection, following swimming in the small pool -which water was often colder than the advertised 32 degrees, and walking through the draughty freezing cold corridor which was not adequately insulated. This issue has been brought to the attention of your staff on numerous occasions over the entire winter period, by many members including myself. As a result during this month I have been unable to attend to swim. When I went back, I found my 2 locked lockers, one for me and one for my three grandchildren who also have memberships, were empty and all my valuable belongings DISPOSED OF. I was left devastated in a state of utter shock, I felt violated, disrespected, and even robbed as my private belongings have been thrown away, without any regards or concern for my basic rights over my property. This is absolutely disgraceful and unacceptable. I have been a member for the last 10 months and you have my full contact details. At no point in this last month did I receive either a letter, an email, or a phone call to notify me that there was a change in policy YET I was contacted by Total Fitness for marketing purposes, asking me for the telephone number of 5 friends, so they could contact to offer them a free day visit (to encourage them to sign up as members). There is absolutely no excuse for not having contacted me to query why I hadn't returned or notify me that my possessions were at risk, and I was left utterly distressed by the actions of the club. This is an extreme breach of trust and my possessions have been taken with NO courtesy, care or respect. One of the reason I had kept my possessions in the lockers is due to my sciatica (back pain), which prevents me carrying heavy loads, as a result, I always kept all my spare items in the lockers, and took home with me only the wet and damp items. At no point throughout the 10 months was I notified not to leave my belongings in the lockers; neither at the point of joining/induction nor afterwards. When I requested Total Fitness to conduct a full investigation and locate my items or provide a full replacement of each item in my lockers ( I provided them with all my receipts of the dispossessed items equivalent to more than £300 in value, they club refused to take responsibility for the DISPOSED items claiming it's "unfortunate that I was unwell during the time of putting the notice asking members to take their belongings otherwise they would be disposed off in THREE weeks, even though in their own contract they say that items would be kept up to FIVE weeks) I was away for four weeks, yet they DISPOSED of?? all of my belongings and my grandchildren's Total Fitness is a disgrace read more

Brilliant jacuzzi pool BUT ongoing problems with jets over many months have left me extremely disillusioned. Has taken a series of e mails for anyone to respond to my concerns and then only to be told to phone. Sorry but this is not customer care! Had a very bad fall on a wet floor (unmarked) whilst attending for hydrotherapy and was promised action. None taken. Total Fitness needs to take customer care plus health and safety issues seriously. I would not recommend Total Fitness Wilmslow until it addresses these issues. read more

This is Total Fitness's 'flagship' club. They claim the gym is "the largest in Europe" - but that could just be their sales pitch bluster (?). They are very good at selling you memberships at TF but once you are a member, my experience is that they don't give a damn about you. The Club is understaffed. Reception is usually manned by one teenager (work experience student) and the Club's phone number - 0161 440 2600 is NEVER answered! i challenge you to try it to see for yourself! There is never a staff member to be found upstairs on the floor of their "largest gym in Europe" to help if you have a query about a machine or weight station. Worst of all, the Club lost some property of mine through sheer carelessness. They left it behind the counter of reception, unmarked and unattended. It disappeared (either stolen or thrown out). I chased for days but was given little or no help in finding it. No manager ever contacted me. I don't think they even had a Manager around. They never rang to let me know what they had found (or not) and I didn't even receive an apology. Appalling. Be careful about this Club. All they care about is getting your money. read more
