Some people don't like older facilities. It doesn't have the bells and whistles the newer ones have but it's clean and functional so I don't have an issue with being here.

Dr. Maximum was amazing though infertility and my physicals and brought hope to us when we were feeling down through years of battling infertility. My PCP, Heather Ball, is located at the Valley View Office and has been the best doctor I've ever had. She stood up for me when other doctors were calling me crazy and kept searching for answers even when I wanted to give up. Without her, I wouldn't not be as stable as I am today and she truly was amazing to work with! I've enjoyed working with Lewis Gale as a whole!

I am a 100% P&T disabled veteran, and my experience with the Salem VA has been one of the most…read morefrustrating experiences I have ever had with healthcare. I requested a male provider when I enrolled and was assigned a female provider anyway. During my appointment, I explained years of failed treatments, severe medication reactions, chronic GI issues, chronic pain, PTSD, anxiety, and the fact that I had previously been placed on numerous medications that caused serious side effects. The response was essentially more medications and yoga. I requested Community Care after a complete breakdown in confidence with my care and ongoing communication problems. Instead of addressing those concerns, I spent months going in circles with Primary Care leadership, Community Care leadership, and the Patient Advocate office. I also spent months trying to obtain a basic accommodation letter for my service connected disabilities and PTSD. What should have been a simple request turned into endless delays, excuses, and follow-ups. I repeatedly requested written communication because of my PTSD and anxiety. That request was acknowledged, yet I was continually pushed toward phone calls and meetings instead of receiving direct written answers. The final straw was my chiropractic care. Chiropractic care has been one of the only treatments that has consistently improved my daily functionality and quality of life, even if short lived. I notified Salem VA leadership in advance that my referral was expiring. I followed up again. I specifically requested that my chiropractic referrals remain current without interruption. The Chief of Primary Care, Community Care leadership, Care Coordination, and the Patient Advocate Supervisor were all made aware. Nobody responded. No referral was renewed. When I arrived for my appointment, I was forced to pay out of pocket because Salem VA failed to coordinate a referral that they had been warned about weeks in advance. That is what veterans are dealing with. Endless bureaucracy, poor communication, lack of accountability, and leadership that either cannot or will not address problems even when they are repeatedly brought directly to their attention. Veterans should not have to fight this hard for basic care, referrals, accommodations, and communication. God Bless America   & Semper Fidelis

While there is a lot of…read morenegative press on access to care, Salem does much better than provide outstanding care - they lead the way on how a VA Medical Center can set the standard for care for Veterans in the United States. I've seen other care areas that did not provide care to the level that most Salem VAMC beneficiaries take for granted. My providers care for me and I feel confident in their assessment of anything I come to them with. I have no problem talking with other Veterans who might not be utilizing their benefits there. I would say that my experience there has been exemplary. I highly recommend the Salem VAMC to anyone who served our country honorably for their care. I appreciate them and trust them with my care.

They were very disorganized and never even informed me of what was going on, like my tests and results. Some of my labs and even meds were not on time. They seem to be avoiding the questions. On top of that, there were several people on the "team" that kept on waking me up every now and then. How many doctors does it take to figure out anything? For heaven's sake, how am I supposed to rest when I am resting? Poor health care ever!
