While Rosemary is very pleasant interpersonally, the treatments I received from her were extremely ineffective and made my hair situation significantly worse. I wasted time and money, I would like to help others avoid this mistake. - I went to Rosemary for 24 electrolysis treatments, saw no improvements, and my hair was much worse than when I started. My hair was significantly darker and coarser than before I started the treatments. I now know it's because the treatments I was receiving were not being done correctly. - I have had to start over with another electrologist to treat the small area of hair I had planned to get treated. Now that I've changed locations, I am receiving much more effective treatments and seeing significant results. - I shared this information with Rosemary and have received no refund or compensation to make this situation right. read more

I get my lip waxed rather frequently and each of the ladies I have seen has been friendly and attentive. When getting my lip waxed, soft wax + a muslin strip (or whatever the little cloth strip is) to remove the hair has been used. I've had awful experiences​ at other establishments where the skin on my upper lip was ripped off with strip wax, but not at Total. I'm unsure if they offer hard wax for those who prefer it, but I'm sure they could answer that question if you call. Also, it only costs $8 for a lip wax, which is a STEAL in my opinion people!! ~ Booking ~ Perhaps one of the best things about coming to Total Skin Care has been​ the large availability​. I've called to make an appointment the day of on multiple occasions​ and been seen that same day (sometimes even being seen early). This might have to do with the fact that a lip wax takes less time than other waxing services, but nonetheless,​ it has been very helpful for me and my busy schedule​. Cristin Doyle is amazing! My brows looked natural and perfectly-groomed after her threading session. This place is now my go-to. Highly recommend!! However, I have to say I had a bad experience on the phone. This morning, I went for a walk-in, I was informed there were no availabilities and I should check back tomorrow. Later in the day, I got a phone call confirming an appointment for the next day that I did not make. Upon my request for a cancellation, the lady on the phone was rude, to say the least. She said, and I quote, "I wouldn't have put you down if you didn't make an appointment so..." It took me three times repeating myself politely (while getting cut off) to clarify the fact that I did NOT make the appointment, and her finally informing me of the cancellation. She simply hung up with "k. bye." Now I do not know who I spoke to or if there were a glitch in the system, but I know it should not take this long nor should I be treated with this attitude to cancel a booking that I did not make. read more

I moved to Southern Maine last year and I still go back to Boston just to see Barbara (yes- she is that good)! This new facility is welcoming when you walk in. Plenty of comfy seats, magazines, and tea for you to relax if you get here early. The wax goes by quickly - Barbara is hilarious and will totally entertain you. She's awesome! The receptionist is super nice, too. The paper bag carrying my salad had a hole in it and she immediately brought me a different one to carry my leftovers home. She's also super welcoming and friendly in general! Bring cash for tip, although they tell you to bring it next time if you don't wanna pay an ATM fee (there's an ATM next door). I got there for my appointment at 10am and she checked me in promptly, and let me know that the woman my appointment was with was running a little late. No problem, it happens. When the girl who she was waxing came out to pay, it turns out she changed her mind after booking her appointment and got a service that took 4x the amount of time, which is why they were 20 minutes late for my appointment. I'm not sure why they didn't tell her she needed to book another appointment, but they should have. Maybe they wanted the money? I don't know. Either way they knew it would end up making my appointment late. Went in for my service and the woman was fine. She was nice enough and she did a great job. Very thorough. They use soft wax here, which I should have figured when there was no mention of the type of wax the use (soft wax hurts WAY more than hard wax). For a salon in the heart of Boston, I would have expected top of the line (hard wax). This is the reason I won't return. I should've done more research, but this was the most painful experience. I couldn't believe the difference between the hard wax and the soft wax. It felt like my skin was being ripped off (and according to my research after the fact, it was). Bottom line is they're friendly and do a good job, but there are places that do a great job with half the pain. read more

I wish I could this place more than 5 stars! To begin with, I was almost an hour late for my first appointment with them to get a full leg and Brazilian wax(also for the first time). They were completely understanding and accommodating with me being so late. For my first time, she made my waxing experience not feel awkward or too painful. We had a friendly conversation the entire wax. I was explained in detail about the process and even sampled a small waxing strip on my leg to test out the pain and see if I could handle it. I've been going here to get Brazilians for awhile now and Rita is a saint. She does an amazing job. She's quick and very thorough. She's so sweet and very personable, which makes the experience so much more comforting. She always offers to wax my upper lip too for no extra charge. You can pay with a credit card but remember to bring cash for tip because you can't tip on your card! One time I forgot and offered to go to the ATM but Rita told me to not worry about it. It's very hard to give Total Skin Care anything less than a five stars. This is one of the best places in Boston to get any type of wax. Both Neira and Rita (whom I've seen for facial waxing and Brazilians) are extremely precise, making sure to get out any excess hair. I also really appreciate that they take their time - I've never really felt rushed. I always feel clean and fresh after leaving, too. They are also both so conversational and put me so much at ease that the waxing goes by quicker. As I go more often, I also felt like it was getting less painful - which is always a plus! I've never waxed with Barbara, but I am sure she is also great seeing as all these ladies have years and years of experience in giving the best possible wax they can to each customer.
