Really don't understand the less than stellar reviews for this great addition to the Wisconsin alcohol buying market options. Good help is HARD to find anywhere and the staff IS friendly and helpful to the best of their means. This location is certainly not the best I have been in, but you will definitely be able to find anything comparable to what you may have specifically come in for. Prices are also en pointe throughout all locations around country taxes notwithstanding. This particular location has a large albeit limited in comparison to other stores selection of wines, beers, and liquors. (Best High end Scotch selection I have seen in Wisconsin). Due to state regulations, I believe samplings are not as available as in other locations. I really appreciate the wide variety of being able to create a full gift from their vast collection of drink accessories from this location (cards, glasses, coolers, coozies, mixes, games, etc. - this IS unique from Miami locations)! My only grievance with this store occurred yesterday during the checkout of my case and a half of wine and various accouterments. I had been shopping with my sister and my niece, and my niece was standing with me as I was checking out and my sister was still shopping. Before I could process my payment, clerk asked if she was my daughter before he could go any further. Why? " I can't sell you alcohol with a minor NOT your own, you might be buying it for her". WTF? Now I do consider myself to be a "cool" aunt, but buying my niece a case of Rose for her 13th birthday really set me off! "I can't sell this to you until her mother is here". Curious as to this particular law? rule??? Really offended when my niece came back with my sister and he said she looks more like me. My sister laughed it off and said to just sell it to "my life partner". Love to find out about this "policy". Yeah, but what If you're not a big wine drinker? OK, my wife's life is complete now that their is a Total Wine in it. Me? meh. I've been here a bunch with her because she usually needs help lifting cases of wine, but I typically don't get too excited by their non-wine selection. Agreed, for wine this place is tops. The only place in SE Wisconsin that can compete is Ray's. The selection is far better, but Ray's is more thoughtfully selected. Total Wine has direct relationships with vineyards all over the world so it will have a ton from certain vineyards. If you like one of these vineyards, you're in luck, and you'll be set. The staff really knows about what they have on their shelf and are happy to help you make your selections. The store is obviously built around wine, and that's cool; wine is in the name of the store. Yes, they have "more" than wine, but generally it seems to be an afterthought. Their non-wine selections seem to be on offer more as a convenience to the wine shopper than as well thought out independant departments. I've recently been to Spain and have discovered that I absolutely love Catalonian Vermouth. Not only can you not get any Vermouth from Catalonia (the area around Barcelona) here, there is not a single bottle from anywhere in Spain. boo.. I also have an affinity for German schnapps. Very little to choose from. Basically, my neighborhood Metcalfe's Market has about the same selection of spirits. Total Wine's beer selection if large, but Woodman's is about the same. They even tend to be light in the basic barware department. Last time I checked, they had a single choice for mixer straws. Plastic cups? forget about it. Go elsewhere for those. boo again. Although my wife almost exclusively buys her wine here now, I will continue to shop at Ray's everything else. read more

Be aware when you ask for help! My husband and I have always liked this place and the prices are really good and definitely worth going out of the way for. However, the past 5 times we have gone over a 6 month period, we have been looking for a few specifics. Beer and wine. We learned our lesson the first time when we were told to "check our website before thinking we have a product you're looking for." So we did the remaining 4 times. We checked every time for these specific beers and wines online and the website said they had it every time. Go in, can't find it, ask and each time the same guy would bring us to the same products he brought us to last time. I am sure a lot of customers come through and he doesn't remember but it's been the same 3 bottles of wine which have nothing to do with what we were looking for. Even though the website says they have what we want, they said "it was here at one time but now it's not." So then they offer a wine or beer that doesn't even fit the description of the tastes we wanted. Funny thing is, this last time I wrote down the wines we keep getting redirected to, looked them up, they are 'total wine' brands under fancy names lol read more

Loved the selection however staff refuse to assist. We had an issue with a gift card from Total Wine, after calling others over who could not assist, they told us there was nothing they could do, customer service was closed-at 615pm??? I left and phoned customer service who offered much assist, however the store staff lied to us, telling us customer service was closed. Very disappointed, this was not a busy time at the store we were the only ones checking out, however staff had no time to assist us in resolving out gift card issue, when in fact they told us our gift card was expired when the actual gift card stated no expiration date. We are serious wine lovers and collectors, buying direct from our favored wineries, from online fine wine distributors and from local shops like Rays, Discount, Ottos Elm Grove. When shopping, I find detailed shelf talkers and knowledgeable shop employees to be very helpful. Took one trip to Total Wine one December evening when they were not very busy. The arrangement and selection of wines was pretty overwhelming with many, many that I'd never seen or heard of. These were typically at low price points and without any information on most, unappealing to me since a good shelf talker will lead me to try new wines. As others mentioned, the selection of lesser known wine regions was slim. I got the sense that they buy "value" priced wines from thousands of bulk producers, mostly US. Think $10 per bottle plus or minus. We asked for a bottle of Conundrum white blend, a boutique type California label originated by Caymus. That is our test of how good prices are. The employee we consulted found it in their inventory but could not find it in the store--hence our comment about vast inventory, probably working against the customer who knows what they want: try to find it given the way they arrange wines. The prices for some of our "go to" wines like Conundrum were about the same as we find anywhere. Also checked out the upper end wines in the refrigerated storage section, since I had just ordered some older Bordeaux second growths from an online merchant who maintains a climate controlled storage warehouse. Prices were about the same as I paid online, even with the shipping charge included (which was quite modest.) One thing we did notice, and is a deal breaker for us, is the store was massively overheated. So warm that it was uncomfortable. Heat just pouring down from overhead onto the racks. Storage in overheated premises is death to any good wine. We did not purchase any sparkling wines for this reason--they were stored upright on shelves at "room" temperature which had to be in the upper 70's at that time. Given the difficulty finding specific bottles, lack of informative shelf talkers in most of the store, the arrangement by "flavor" profile that made it even more difficult to find specific wines, lack of inventory from lesser known but emerging wine areas and emphasis on mass market bottles, we won't be back. I've only been to this one a couple times, but I love it. I had been to one in Connecticut before I moved here, and the people working at this one are just as helpful. The selection is huge, and the prices are definitely better than the corner store. We'll be supplying our wedding with booze from here for sure! Also, last time I was there with my fiancé, we got quite a bit of help and advice from someone (forget his name.. Big bearded guy) for a signature drink for our wedding. Thanks to him, we've picked an awesome gin! read more

Stopped in on the second day 12/2 of their grand opening. They already were out of their free beer glasses. I'm sure they knew they would never have enough since it was supposed to run to 12/4. the worse web site for ordering items in the world. I have called them numerous times about their web site not reflecting what was in the store and they are still working on it. So for the last 4 1/2 weeks they have had items in their store and their web site reflects out of stock and that was for one item. I would venture to say if you checked their would be many more items not reflected properly. So if you have to drive a long way to purchase items I would highly recommend shopping at a closer store like ABC of Florida. read more

This Total Wine location is fantastic. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and prices are superbly low on almost everything. If one person isn't an expert in the specific style of alcohol you're seeking, almost certainly a different staff member will be, and they'll generally send you to the resident coniseur of whatever you're trying to find. They will also let you sample certain things before you buy them, especially if they already have a bottle of it open because of a recent tasting event. Just ask a manager. I can't say enough about the excellent service that this business consistently provides, regardless of location. If you're in Milwaukee and the Brookfield location is out of stock, go to the Greenfield location. It's only 20 minutes away, and you'll get the same great service! BTW, you may have seen this same review on their Google Reviews page. I decided to re-post it here because I saw the 3.5 star average rating on yelp, which is absurd for a business that consistently gives such great customer service and has such a huge selection and low prices. I'm sorry to see the 3-star review from the guy who couldn't get vermouth from spain or German Schnaaps, and thought that was worthy of a 2-star drop. Some folks have strange expectations. Also, just because a location does not have something in store, that doesn't mean they can't order it for you if you ask them. Obviously they can't get everything, but don't just assume that since they don't have it on the shelves that they can't get it for you. I patronize this location and/or the Greenfield, WI location at least twice a month. Most of the time I spend at least a few minutes talking about whatever alcohol with some staff member, and they're always happy to talk to customers and answer questions. read more

Earlier today, my sister and I stopped at the Total Wine Brookfield location to make purchases for our family for the holidays. While at the checkout, the cashier asked for both mine and my sister's driver's licenses. My sister is underage, but I assumed that because I am significantly over the legal age and purchasing, that it should not be an issue during checkout. The cashier ushered the manager over, and we again explained the situation. The manager then said that we could not make the purchase because my sister was neither 21 nor my child. He explained that the store policy dictates that any minor in the store must be accompanied by a legal guardian (i.e. parent). Because we were on errand for our parents and needed to make other stops, I asked if my sister could wait in the car and I could come in alone and purchase. The manager said no, and further told me that I could not come back for the rest of the day. I realize that this store policy is in place to prevent sale to minors, but it is absolutely ridiculous that I could not purchase even with my sister in the car or outside of the store. The manager was indifferent, and when I called corporate to let them know of the incident, corporate said that the manager had interpreted the policy incorrectly. Total Wine lost a large purchase, including a gift card. We will not be returning to Total Wine Brookfield in the future. read more
