Lovely restaurant! Finally a Morrocan restaurant in Hove! This little gem has newly opened and we…read moreare grateful for that. It oozes Morrocan charm from the moment you walk in through the old Morrocan doors. The effort that has been put into this restaurant is more than apparent; from the ceiling lights to the Small tagine pots cemented in around the top of the bar. It truly was a delight to eat in a restaurant with such ambiance. The restaurant offer a more secluded eating area at the back to seat around 10-15 people on traditional seating which essentially are large thick cushions on the floor. It looks beautiful and can be booked in advance for larger groups (birthday dinner etc). They are also working on the upper floor which should be available for party hire. Now on to the food as i could go on forever about every little detail of this beautiful restaurant. For starters i had the cheese and spinach bourek which was lovely it was a decent portion and not too oily which as it is fried i am sure many know how restaurants can go wrong with this simple starter. For the main course i went for a lamb tagine and i wasn't disappointed, it was delicious. It burst with all the right flavors and was a very generous portion. Those of you who enjoy Morrocan/North African food will love this place, I have yet to try out other dishes on there menu but i can tell you something i may soon become a regular at this local gem! Enjoy!!

I should preface this by saying I'm not familiar with Moroccan cuisine so I can't speak to its…read moreauthenticity. That being said, I can speak to the deliciousness of the menu, and in that respect it delivered in abundance. The appetizer we ordered was phyllo folded into triangles, stuffed with spinach, mushrooms, and goat cheese, then fried to golden perfection. Absolutely scrumptious. It was served over top a small, simple salad, lightly dressed and abundantly peppered, which was likewise enjoyable though less remarkable. The entree was called Supreme Chicken, and was sliced chicken breast served over a bed of sauteed spinach, smothered in a creamy, peppery sauce, resplendent with velvety sliced mushrooms and crispy, sliced potatoes on the side. It was to die for. I wouldn't describe the dish as spicy, per se, but it was thoroughly peppered, so if you're sensitive to that sort of thing you may wish to consider another entree. The menu was exotic but approachable, the staff friendly and accommodating, and the prices altogether reasonable. I have no complaints, a ton of compliments, and a profound sense of sorrow that I won't be able to visit more regularly on account of living on a different continent. Absent that, I'd be a regular. This place is wonderful.

It's not often you find a real jewel of a place that could be so easily overlooked if all you went…read moreon was the appearance of the facade. The Moorish Lounge is one such place. It's completely unassuming from the outside and peeking through the window doesn't give you much of a clue either. It's when you look at the menu that you start to get an inkling that this might just be a little special. Once you get inside you are struck how small the place is and the atmosphere is rather like being in someone's studio flat with a Moroccan theme. However the staff are more than friendly and the smells emanating from the kitchen are even more enticing. Best places to sit are on the sofas around the outside of the space but even if the stools are available, take them because this place can become busy very quickly. The menu is amazing and I can tell you that the cooking is superb. The Tagines are sumptuous, rich and delicious and it is my intention to try each and every one of them. The mint tea is lovely and poured from a height and the juices are delicious too. The restaurant has no available alcohol but the owner/cook has no problem with you bringing your own and doesn't charge corkage. He even points out the off-licence next door. The staff are very friendly and the place has a good mix of people but be prepared for a long meal as the meals are individually cooked by the proprietor to what I can only say is a standard well worth waiting for and should definitely be taken time over to appreciate. It's a wonderful place to relax over a meal and the proprietor is a very friendly and pleasant man who makes you feel very welcome and you don't mind taking your time. The desserts are also something to highlight and especially his own cinnamon creme brulee with orange blossom which is a dessert worth going there for alone! So if you want wonderful Moroccan food in a very pleasant atmosphere and want to take time to savour it then there are very few places I could recommend more. I for one will be returning many times

We were looking for somewhere…read morefor an inexpensive bite to eat with a friend, and outside Sahara was an 'A' board advertising as its headline 'Set Lunch £6.95, Dinner £8.95'. In the adjacent window the set menu selection looked very good, with plenty of lamb, chicken and vegetarian options. This hit the spot so we went in. We were given menus, but found no sign of the set menu at £8.95. We asked about it, and were treated to a rather loud and slightly embarrassing exchange between the waitress and kitchen of 'are we doing a set menu tonight?' which went on for a few minutes. The waitress then said they weren't - the offer was only on weekdays, which did not include Fridays. We pointed out they were advertising it outside (with no caveats about which nights it applied to). Then another member of staff appeared, and suggested the weekend set menu - which, at £38 for two, was more than double the price. I pointed out that they were advertising something different outside - after all, it's not a great effort to take in an 'A' board. He just repeated that the offer was on Mondays to Thursdays only. We felt ripped off - we'd been lured in on a false premise. We left with a bad taste in our mouths - so can't actually comment on the food...

I noticed India mentioning that Sahara can be a little bit pricey, but this can be avoided if you come between Monday and Thursday. During these days/nights, you can get 2 courses from as little as £6.95 (£8.95 in the evening). If like me, you are big on trying to take advantage of these promotions, Sahara is definitely a restaurant that should be added to your list of potential choices. I had a mixed meat dish served with couscous and salad, I can say with all certainty that I was not disappointed. Sahara is good alternative to the more Western restaurants, I could certainly see myself heading back.
