Portsmouth is a pretty old and beautiful station, with the most gorgeous large red building, and a pedestrian plaza that is probably one of the prettiest stations in England, certainly that isn't in one of the major cities. It's the final terminus of a line that leads down to the water, and here they have a whole bunch of tracks and a lot of people using it too, and it's hard not to love such a gorgeous old station. The lovely city of Portsmouth in recent years and also the seaside Town Southsea which is a lot of memories from my past, are right here, and it's amazing. It has been the station for Portsmouth since 1847 and was originally just Portsmouth and then later Portsmouth Town, before in 1925 becoming Portsmouth and Southsea. You can get trains from here to Cardiff Bristol Brighton London and so on. And remember, promise to love this station in richer, in porth, in sickness and in health.

This is the station you need to get off at if you want to go shopping in Commercial Road or Cascades, or if you are going to Portsmouth Guildhall, the Civic Offices or the Courts. It is also the station for a lot of the University buildings. The station has upper and lower platforms and a lift is available for those who need it. The station has several windows in the ticket office and has ticket machines too. There are places to get food and drink, although they can be a bit expensive and you may be better off getting something from one of the shops in the nearby shopping centre.

If you live in Lymington, you may end up with Lymington disease, so be careful…read more What a beautiful little old town - one of those little Old Towns, and it's just very memorable, and somehow unlike any other little town we've been to recently. So absolutely gorgeous then. The old station house looks like a beautiful old pub or large cottage. It's one of the highlights of the town. It's little and old and beautiful and definitely prettier than the nearby railway station. The service is away from the main town and it just has a single track that comes down here. It's been a line for a hundred and fifty years now which is pretty amazing.

Viewed from the car park outside, it looks much like any other station, but step inside and you're transported to another world entirely. The Station Master is friendly and welcoming and the walls are plastered with pictures of steam trains, newspaper reports and authentic railway posters of yesteryear. Every nook and cranny from the ticket office to the waiting room is filled with little bits of history including old signs and signal equipment, and more personal items such as old suitcases with labels saying where they've been. Real care and attention has been lavished on this station, even down to silly things like soft covers on the metal chairs in the waiting room, and the staff and supporters deserve to have real pride in what they've created. Brilliant.

We sailed on Celebrity Apex on a Norwegian fjords cruise two weeks ago. The original cruise…read moreterminal was City Center terminal however it was subsequently moved over to Horizon a few days before we were set to sail. It was a non issue as both terminals are nearby to each other. The Horizon cruise terminal is the newer one of the two. We pulled our 24 inch luggage over from a nearby hotel. Took about 15 minutes. We had planned to walk our luggage onto the ship. But then a cruise terminal worker suggested we not as the luggage probably couldn't fit onto the X-ray conveyor belt. We checked the luggage instead. Easy peasy as they tagged the luggage right then and there. It was a seamless process as we checked in using Celebrity's app while home. At the cruise terminal we showed our passports with the app and we're allowed to board. Typically we'll ask for early boarding to take advantage of the lunch buffet onboard. We showed up at 11:20am with a 11:30am embarkation. The day we disembarked was just as seamless. We walked off the ship with our luggage. Thank goodness it was at a downhill slant all the way down into the cruise terminal. A cruise employee acted as the traffic controller instructing passengers where to go depending on your previously transportation arrangements. We met our private transport past the pedestrian crossing. In and out within 10-15 minutes. Back to London for a post stay. Took about 1 hour 50 minutes due to traffic.

There were signs for taxis, shuttles, ride shares & tours. The taxi line moved very quickly, we were in our cab in about 5 minutes. The ride to the station was in under :10. We passed several walkers pushing one bag on wheels the 1 flat mile route.

Not as aged as Old Milton…read more This is a typical little station with a road bridge going right over it at the end of the platform. Not too many trains stop here anymore, but it has a cute little Old English style house here which separates it from many other of the regional stations. Definitely one of the prettier stations in Hampshire, but also very low key. It dates to 1886 and it's just a little village railway station really.

I use the train a lot, so feel reasonably qualified to tell a good station from a bad one and was…read morepleasantly surprised by New Milton Railway Station when I visited recently. There's plenty of car parking and the station platforms and buildings appear clean and well-maintained. The ticket office staff were helpful and knowledgeable despite my asking awkward questions about different ticket types and rail operators. The waiting room was warm and comfortable and although I'm not a trainspotter by any stretch of the imagination, the wall displays of old steam trains and railway memorabilia were interesting to look at and helped to pass the time.

Fratton is a station which serves the suburb of Fratton in Portsmouth, and also (as mentioned by…read moreothers) Portsmouth FC's nearby ground. History The station was opened in 1847 as part of an extension of the line from Brighton to Chichester known as the Chichester to Portsmouth Branch Railway, (which later also became part of the main line from London Waterloo via Guildford) and is the last station before Portsmouth and Southsea. Between 1885 and 1914 it was also the junction for the short-lived Southsea Railway, which ran to the seafront at Southsea. The station The station has three platforms, and is currently being refurbished (there is a temporary ticket office and toilet adjacent to the car park). When completed, the toilets, ticket office and small cafe will reopen, but there is no waiting room. Other facilities include racks for 66 cycles and a small car park with 15 spaces. There is a new footbridge with lifts at the eastern end of the platform, providing step-free access throughout. Services The station is served by frequent direct trains to London Waterloo, Southampton, Brighton and Bristol/Cardiff via Salisbury. It is one of the recommended stations for changing trains from the East Coastway line to Brighton to and from services to Bristol and Cardiff. It is used by approximately 1.5m passengers a year.

Fratton station get VERY busy on match days, they tend to open a side gate to keep supporters out of the way of the general traveller. This station is a good pickup point f your have visitors arriving, and since all trains stop here before they go to Portsmouth and Southsea/The Harbour, it can shorten peoples journeys a little. There are usually taxis in a rank waiting outside the main building for easy transport once off the train too.

As far as ferry crossings go, seamless. Immaculate. Piece of cake checking in. No hassle or…read moredrama. Arrived quite early and instead of making us wait just loaded us straight on the next ferry. When you get on the ferry seems to have thought about everything even though only a short crossing. Dog friendly zones, teen zone, a Greggs, Costa, snacks and selection of alcoholic beverages. Toilets immaculate. Seating areas well thought out. Really impressed. Apart from the rude crappy service from Costa. Abrupt, stroppy and not helpful. When they finished their overall service they proceeded to stand and have a proper go at a member of the team over the rota or something. Not on. It was a case of "whoa" who shot your cat. Rude mares. Would have been 5* for all the other parts Costa dragged it down to 3*. Disembarking was super quick easy and no dramas. Big thumbs up and thanks!

Thr girlfriend and I had done the hovercraft, which was fun and the fastest crossing as a passenger On our weekend trip this weekend, we took the car and chose the Portsmouth to Fishbourne route as it's the shorter of the car ferry journeys (Red Funnel leave from Southampton) The route is well signposted from the M27 and we encountered no traffic, coming down for the 8pm ferry on a Friday night. Nice to see that, especially as it was the weekend of the IOW round the island race On arrival, we were directed to a lane to wait for the ferry. There was no mention of the 45 minute delay we then noticed on the large dot matrix sign. The time for the next ferry was also wrong as it was for 19.30 and we arrived at 19.45. There were no announcements or explanations about the delay but one of the marshalls we spoke to at least tried to be helpful but perhaps, they could try and keep their customers informed a bit better We popped into Greggs, located in the car park area, for a little nibble. There's also a Costa Coffee available The other slight annoyance was the lack of firm marshalling when the time came to board. There wasn't enough vigilance to stop some naughty cars from cutting in line ahead of other cars which had arrived before them The journey itself was pleasant enough with some light refreshments available though we chose to enjoy the lovely sun-dappled views of the Solent from the outdoor promenade deck Incidentally, the 3rd way to cross over is by catamaran to Ryde
