The young man asked if he could at least give me some information about what the organization was doing. I agreed. At the end of his spiel he asked once again if I couldn't at least give him something. I said, "Sure, you want the money for the mortgage, the groceries or the medication my son needs to stay alive?" If someone tells you that they are impoverished and you still push for them to give you money, I'm going to treat you like the televangelists that bilk the elderly out of their Social Security.

What's awesome here is that three of the lighthouses buildings are open to be toured, including the tower itself (which was way too crowded for my comfort), the keeper's quarters that have been restored to 20th century decorations and the assistant keeper's quarters that have been restored to late 19th century. So it's all quite cool and very interesting. The lighthouse was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984. [Review 17891 overall - 111 in Minnesota - 1412 of 2022.]

The lighthouse itself was neat to climb up but smaller than expected. It was the perfect size to keep our granddaughter (age 6) engaged without being bored. By far the best part was the grounds. So beautiful and right on a well-groomed walking path. Our little 5 minute stop turned into a two hour adventure. This is the perfect stop if you're are looking to spend some quiet time on the water and would like a smaller version of split rock. It is not as well kept or as popular but was just enough for us. It is worth the stop. Especially if you plan ahead and bring a picnic lunch with you!

After you see that, walk down to the shore and capture a beautiful picture of the lighthouse from there. It is worth mentioning that every staff member we interacted with was friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable.

A great campground along the North Shore. We stayed at cart in site 17, you're right on the cliffs…read moreso the view is beautiful. It's a pretty spacious site as well with a private bench that overlooks the lake. The walk in is about 5 minutes but there is a slight incline towards the sites so not a bad walk but with a cart full of stuff you might be feeling it. Beware of the flies!! The flies were so awful at our site, not sure if that's the case with the other sites but we decided to do a hike mid day because we couldn't relax at the site without a swarm of flies around us. we probably won't go back to this site because of that. The site has a bear box but critters can still get inside!! we have some of our food nibbled on both nights so they definitely know there way around. Pebble beach is beautiful, busy at times but great for relaxing, dipping your toes in or enjoying a picnic. Speaking of picnics, they have a designated "picnic area" that has a pavilion, an inside multipurpose room, flush toilets and plenty of picnic tables along the shoreline. It's not my favorite campsite along the North Shore, but still beautiful and worth the visit.

Terrain is rough, the road is strap and only one lane (watch for cars coming down!). They have designated motorcycle parking and some signage with I for about the area and hiking.

The road to drive up was closed for the winter so we hiked up the small mountain which took around 15 minutes. But during (not the winter season LOL) the road is open to drive up for gorgeous views of Lake Superior. Definitely a must stop you have to make while driving up the MN North Shore.
