Standing here, you can almost picture the original depot as a practical outpost on a line that connected small farming settlements to the wider region, long before Matthews became the busy suburban town it is today. The marker makes the point succinctly: "Established by 1875 on Carolina Central Railway. Incorporated as Town of Matthews in 1879. Depot later served Seaboard Air Line RR. Closed by 1967." It is number 35 and was erected in 2024 by the William C. Pomeroy Foundation, part of their effort to highlight the transportation roots that shaped towns like this. What makes the spot appealing is how easy it is to take it in at your own pace. The museum and town offices give the area a civic calm, and the marker feels like a small reminder that Matthews didn't begin with boutiques and restaurants but with a rail line that made the place viable in the first place, a simple wooden depot that helped define the town's early identity. There is parking nearby, so it's an easy stop whether you're exploring downtown or just passing through, and it adds a nice bit of context to the streets that have grown up around it. We were a little lost finding a parking space since we came in through the staff parking side, and there are no "main doors." But the library is so large, having little doors all around I suppose is most suitable. So that's another thing, it's large! And I love it! It's a two story library (from what I saw), with clearly marked sections and a wonderful children's area. We immediately got ourselves library cards and began toward the children's section. My son was excited to choose new books to read (all dinosaurs and trucks of course), my daughter had a blast exploring a new open space, and neither of them wanted to leave at the end. They offer plenty of reading areas, small tables with activities, and a little computer area for children as well. The staff were extremely friendly and gave us some flyers on family events. I LOVE when libraries have tons of community events. Movie nights, crafts, toddler reading times, and bingo are all offered. They apparently have a separate auditorium for it all, which we didn't get to see, but sounds really exciting. We are excited to come again when we go for a new round of books.

There is a quiet seating section just for them where they can sit and read for as long as they want. There is someone to help the kids find books they might like. Several computer stations upstairs so you won't have to wait They also have a copy machine. The best sellers go fast any you usually have to be put on a wait list. You still need to get a card to check anything out but that only takes a few minutes to get

It's been a long time coming to see that area being put to great use. The library is huge, colorful and bright. It houses with the electric company as well. The library staff is nice and helpful; there's also monthly activities for the children. I did get me a new membership library card, there's also computers for us to use. This library was my tax dollars put to good use and I'm loving it!!!

Blacksburg, S.C was christened a town in the year 1888. It's been around a lot longer than that…read morehowever. This is a small town of 1800 residents more or less. They actually came into existence as a town due to a railroad station with a set of tracks that parallels Main Street. There was a discovery of iron ore in the immediate area in the late nineteenth century. Hence the nickname of Iron City was born. Mostly just good southern folks reside here. There's a variety of small shops and stores. I enjoyed my leisurely stroll downtown this morning. Beautiful, laidback place!

This building was constructed with the plan to modernize judicial services while preserving the historic courthouse for civic and cultural use. It is the sixth to serve as courthouse for the county and was completed in 2022. Lincolnton has been the county seat since 1785. Not named for Abe Lincoln, Lincoln County named for Benjamin Lincoln (1733-1810), who was a major general during the American Revolutionary War who participated in the Siege of Yorktown and accepted the British surrender there. Lincoln and Rutherford Counties were formed in 1779 from Tryon County which was dissolved that same year. The new courthouse is a contemporary design which houses seven courtrooms, more than twice the three in the historic courthouse. It incorporates modern elements including steel framing, energy-efficient systems for climate control and ADA accessibility as well as secure circulation paths for judges, staff and detainees. I never would've imagined Concord would have such a large, nice library tucked into the upcoming…read morehustle and bustle of their downtown. It meshes perfectly with the other shops and restaurants right along the main drag. Out front the shrubs and green spaces are nicely upkept and featured a sculpture or two. In the library you can find basically anything you'd find in a Charlotte library. The bottom floor features the fiction and nonfiction stacks, plenty of computers for public use and tables for board games, puzzles and Scrabble night. Upstairs is an entire theater where, on the day I visited, a duo was playing guitar, tambourine and singing for a group of kids. Just beside the theater entrance is the children's area for books and things. Both upstairs and downstairs you can find staff at the ready to help you find what you need. It's amazing to me that more people don't take full advantage of the service and resources libraries provide entirely for free in our communities. Though I think that's changing, as this location seems to prove.

This library was exactly what I needed! It's easy to access, with handicap-accessible pathways and a convenient one-level layout. Inside, it was clean, quiet, and welcoming; except during the occasional (and adorable) toddler reading sessions. Reserving a private study room was super easy--just scan the QR code to reserve, and a librarian unlocks the door when it's your turn. The WiFi was free and reliable, the bathrooms were spotless, and I appreciated that they allowed me to bring in water and my morning coffee. All in all, a clean, convenient, and accessible space for focused work. Highly recommend if you're in the area and need a quiet place to concentrate!
