It's not mistake that this dealership has a 2 star rating as they are inferior in almost every regard to any competing Toyota dealership within a 50 mile radius (Newton Toyota, Paul Miller Toyota, etc). Let's begin with their service department where their specialty is recommending unnecessary/extremely expensive work to address non existent issues. Also, forget about speaking to a manager from this department as they are perpetually unavailable to speak directly with customers to hear feedback regardless of whether it's good or bad. Also, expect to receive unwanted/harassing calls from their sales team any time you are in for service, even for something as minor as an oil change. Unfortunately the issues at this dealership extend beyond just their service department. I have attempted to look at cars on their lot (both new and used) on two different occasions and both times encountered bait/switch techniques and overly aggressive sales practices. To summarize, for a purchase of this magnitude there are far better options in the Morris and Essex County areas. DISHONEST and entirely unresponsive to customer needs, a big disappointment. Extremely disappointed with my experiences at Towne Toyota. Not a dealership that I would ever recommend. read more

Jake the Manager at Towne Toyota called me directly today and stated that they are going to fix the Rav 4 that I just purchased from their co-owned Towne Hyundai dealership in Denville because it had a Torque Convertor problem that would cause the car to shutter. This problem affected 500k Rav 4's and can eventually cause damage to the transmission. This shutter can also become unbearable over time causing the Torque Convertor to malfunction completely. Jake stated at no cost to me that they would take care of this major issue. Toyota does have an extended warranty for this specific issue but on my particular vehicle this warranty ran out 6 months ago. Since I just purchased the car I felt Toyota should have granted the warranty to me because the car still has less than 60k on it and the original warranty coverage was up to 60k. I know that the time ran out but time usually doesn't cause more wear and tear on vehicles. I would highly recommend Towne Toyota and Towne Hyundai to anyone at this point since this dealership took it upon themselves to fix my issue. I am grateful for this outcome and will try to see how I can contact Toyota directly and tell them how happy they made me. In 2015 I also purchased my Highlander from Towne Toyota and have been very happy with that vehicle as well. I had the Highlander serviced there regularly and they did a superb job. When it comes to purchasing my next car they will be at the top of my list. read more

I had a relative bring his car into this dealership for his normal oil change and look over. Before leaving the shop, he was presented with a quote to replace his front brake pads, rotors and calipers for a price that's irrelevant. He took the car home and told me about it and I removed all four wheels form the car and removed the pads to inspect and measure them carefully. I found that he had more than 5.5MM of pad left on the front brakes and the rears were not an issue. I took pictures of the pads and sent them to the dealership shop manager and they did NOTHING about it. I guess I should have called the Attorney General, but I wasted enough time at this point. The real issue here is that the service writer clearly stated to my relative That the brakes were REALLY bad and needed replacement immediately. Never again by: Post Master ASE Tech read more

TERRIBLE! Reported them to Toyota USA. Eric, who is a stuck up, young mechanic got angry with me on the phone and used terrible explicit language while talking with a customer! When I told him I will be sending in the service survey that Toyota USA provides in the mail stating what happened, he stated ' I don't care, GOOD! I'll even lend you my pen to fill it out" He should be fired. Mike the service manager seems pretty nice but needs to get a hold of his employees. They also left grease footprints on the carpeted floor mats as well. Toyota USA will be replacing these. I will NEVER do business with them again, please do not go here. read more

They have HORRIBLE business practice. After showing me a DIRTY Toyota Sienna that had just been turen in off a lease, they tried to to do the Bait-and-switch routine with me on a used vehicle that I had orginally come in to see. They also tried to raise the price of the car by adding in costs of the vehicle when it came time to agree on the price. I had a horrible experience with them and called Toyota's main number to report them. After giving a recount of my experience I was told I should be getting a call from the dealership which never happened. I called Toyota again and let them know that as I was told to do so by them. They said the dealership did try to call me and that I was the reason the deal fell through and made up lies about me. I went to a different Toyota dealership and got a much better deal on a much better used Sienna (without all the BS). read more

What is their problem? This is the second time that we have gone here looking to buy a car and have had an issue with them. Several years we saw an suv advertised and called them up. They said it was available and we drove over there. When we got there, the salesman said that he made a mistake and tried to sell us a much higher priced suv. We said no thanks and left. We decided to give them a second chance when we were looking for a new car for my wife. Maybe we had a bad salesman the first time. Things like that happen. When we got there, the salesman blew us off. Instead of helping us and giving us information about the car we wanted he curtly told us to look at some cars outside and walked away. It seems the customer service at this place is downright horrible and I'm glad I found out before it was too late. After checking their reviews, this confirms my feelings. I originally e-mailed Towne Toyota around 2 months ago with a few very basic questions about a used car they listed for sale online. I instantly received an autoreply, followed by an e-mail stating my question had been assigned to someone and I would receive a "prompt, personalized response" soon. Three days later, I received a reply from Nicole thanking me for considering them and instructing me to call them. If they can't be bothered with answering a few basic questions, of course they can't be bothered by all the work involved in selling a car... so I didn't go any further. Besides, I don't work for the dealer and I don't follow their demands. If they want my money, they should be working for me. It appears they have this game of business backwards. Since then, I am constantly getting SPAMMED from this dealership. I have "unsubscribed" countless times from this nonsense, to no avail. I finally resorted to blocking their entire domain from my e-mail account. It's such a shame they're like this. The vehicle they had listed for sale was listed at a reasonable price and not too easy to find, so I probably would've bought it from them if they would've given me the time of day. ***WARNING*** A lot of their most recent 5-star reviews on Google appear to be fake (fortunately, Yelp screens and removes them). If you click on the profiles of any one of them, these reviewers are first-time posters, and have never posted any other reviews since. Very dishonest and low-life way to do business. Purchasing a new car: Walked in here since my family has purchased a few new vehicles from Towne Toyota previously. As we were walking up to the entrance, there were at least 4-5 salespersons hovering around the door. As soon as we opened the door (even though some were standing right there) they all scattered. The front desk receptionist asked how she could help us and we told her we were looking to purchase a new vehicle. It was incredibly interesting to watch so many unoccupied salespeople avoid making eye contact with her. After 5+ mins of this fiasco we walked out. So happy to have been spared this experience and I found a dealer that thought we customers were more worth the time/effort. read more

When I leased my new car from Towne Toyota in 2017, I traded in another car and the dealer was to get me new plates for the new car (which they did) and turn in the old plates (which they may not have). Very late last night I got a visit from my local police asking me if I'd recently sold a car as the Wayne NJ police had stopped a Toyota with my old plates, the same plates Towne Toyota said "for my convenience" they would return to DMV. I called the dealer, the DMV and Wayne PD today and all said that I (and no one else) have to report the plates as stolen. Some convenience, Toyota! I have been using Towne Toyota for service for many years with no issues. However, I will think twice about ever buying another car from them. read more

My parents recently had an issue with their 2010 Rav4, my mother broke down on the highway and the car was towed to Towne Toyota where they were told that one of the cylinders had lost pressure and that the engine would need to be replaced ($6000) or realistically it would be time for a new car. The technician told them he was unable to get the car started. As a formality, my parents decided to take the car to a local auto shop, Lakeside Tire. The engine was running in 15 minutes. After adding some oil, replacing a thermostat, and other minor repairs, for $500 they drove the car home. Not sure if they were intentionally misleading them to get them to buy a new car or if the mechanic just didn't know what he was doing, either way it's an unacceptable mistake that would have cost my retired parents A LOT of money. read more

She recognized my concern over not being notified about the speed rating on the tire. My wife and I went there to buy an SUV. We got a great deal on our RAV4. The Sales team does seem to be a little pushy but I expect that from a dealership. What I like is the Service department. For the most part, I don't have any issues with them. Certain members of the Service desk team seem to be disinterested unless you are "their" customer. Overall, the Service team seems to give some good ETA's on a completion time (Sales was a different story). The Customer Relations Rep, Patti Young, is very attentive and proactive to my needs. read more

After having the very GREAT experience purchasing my car from Ed back in December. I took it in for servicing only come to find out that my passenger front seat was replaced with a dirty greasy seat that doesn't even match my drivers seat, and besides that the fabric was torn down from the seat and the plastic piece that secures the fabric was broken and hanging. I certainly didn't do this and they refused to fix it or take responsibility for it. Also asked for surveillance cameras to be looked at they wouldn't do that either.. Service department is the worst I have ever encountered. Really.??? They told me to have my insurance fix it.. at a $500 deductible, that I have to pay.... REALLY ??? BUYER BEWARE.. Took my car in for an expensive detailed cleaning with strict instructions that there were mice droppings found all over. Because it wasn't used for a while and was parked by a wooded area. My car looked cleaned to begin with so I had a feeling they will do half ass job. We drove for 45 mins to pick it up and paid ..only to find out that there were still mice droppings all over the car!!! The reason why it's for detailed cleaning is because a newborn baby will have to ride that car. I'm pretty sure my husband told them that. Brought my car in for regular maintenance. They told me I needed new brakes & tires for an estimate of over $1200 (& that it shouldn't wait & be done now). I declined & investigated further. I didn't need new brakes for at least another 5000-10000 miles. Using another shop & getting better tires & better brakes, I was able to pay a total of less than $600. What a scam, trying to scare me into something I didn't need yet & for over $600 more than I needed to pay. read more

First they tried selling me a "new" truck that had lot damage and repaired in a body shop. The only reason I was able to avoid making a huge mistake is because I wouldn't stop asking questions and eventually got them to admit it. So I went and got the truck somewhere else, which was a great experience and figured I'd give Towne Toyota Service a chance, thinking it has little to do with sales department. Nope. Same philosophy. Came the first time complaining of brake vibration. Allowed them to talk me into "It's normal, go home" thing. Came back, this time with the problem already diagnosed and specific instructions to fix it. They completely disregarded them, did unnecessary work (they themselves indicated it as unnecessary last time), refused to apologize or even acknowledge their mistake. I am now making the repairs on my own dime, luckily it's only $100 from a local mechanic. I should not have to pay for repairs on a truck that has 2000 miles. Thanks, Towne Toyota! They did seem to be very good at oil changes though, knocking them out one after another. Do not go there for anything more complicated. read more

I tried to buy a car here and the sales experience was good, I was looking for a certified used and the inventory was not in very presentable condition. The salesman told us that the cars always get dinged up in their lot since it's so small but they would clean it up if I wanted the car, bad impression of the car so I really did not want to pay retail and see a dirty car, not a good first impression. I had to go elsewhere to buy but returned to at least use their service department. I really liked the staff and was happy until I had a problem. I had to wait weeks for the service manager to call me to address a problem and when finally I was contacted it was a defensive and unprofessional response. I was shocked as the folks working for her were all very professional. I also tried to reach the GM and was told that the owner runs the business directly, in spite of messages left with reception I did not get a call back. I guess I should have expected that as her voice mail was completely full and I could not leave a voice mail. She was also on vacation I was told so maybe that was the cause but no one was left in charge. End result, I will not go back as I just felt my business was not appreciated and I was not treated with respect. Since then I purchased another new car at another dealership and have been forced to go to another Toyota dealership to service both of my cars. read more

After Alberto (salesman) kept calling me for over a year and showing me many used cars that were over priced and faulty, I decided to to a look at a 2002 Toyota 4 runner with about 80,000 miles, one owner and no accidents reported. I was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer that ran great so I wasn't really in a desperate position to get this vehicle. Originally priced at $10,000 we were able to shave some money off after taking it for a test drive and reporting to the salesman that it pulled to the right when braking. Mechanics told me it was a great truck and my father-in-law who is a mechanic did say some rust but not bad; it's hard to know what will happen later on. I did get the limited power train warranty. I've had to replace the entire exhaust system, new tires (tires I knew would be needed ), brakes, rotors, which are part of a used cars typical costs. Now a sensor light has come on causing the ABS to shut off and the rear shocks are broken and need to be replaced. Additionally, the rear brake drums were leaking but that was covered under the warranty, minus $213 to replace some other part that was now covered in grease as a result of the leak. Also, after over a year we have not been able to find the cause of the shaking in the wheel at highway speeds, or why the vehicle pulls to the right. I hate driving it. I called the dealership and was told they may be able to do something for me because of the problems found, but then they called back with an attitude and said I "bought a used as is vehicle and there was nothing they could do" and that they "felt bad". In total with the ABS repair and shocks that now need to be replaced we have spent over $2,000 to repair the vehicle; keeping in mind that all repairs except the $213 were at cost and with no labor charged since my father-in-law is a mechanic and has done these repairs for us. My point is don't buy a used vehicle from them. They inflate the prices and sell poor quality vehicles; at this rate you are better off buying and taking your chances at a smaller car dealership. I expected better from a Toyota dealership which has left me with a vehicle that is worth not even half as much and in credit card debit as a result of the repairs. I cannot wait until this over priced loan is paid off so I can buy a decent vehicle, and it will NOT be from Towne Toyota! read more
