It is probably the largest store I saw on my recent trip to the Tyne and Wear Region of WHSmith, which included branches in Newcastle Central Railway Station, Durham and the Gateshead Metrocentre. This branch was my favourite out of the ones mentioned mainly down to the size, it had a good product range for items such as lever arch folders, drinks and snacks etc. The drink selection was good however I found the 2 for £2.50 promotion to be a tad expensive, considering Superdrug nearby runs a promotion to have 2 for £2, which works out £1.80 with my Unidays Discount however sadly the range they have is much poorer than the WHSmith branch, when comparing the branch nearby to this one. There also is a huge staircase in the store, with the upper floor having some more WHSmith floor space as I recall and a post office. The staff member working seemed friendly enough, although I did have to take longer checking out my items as for some reason the self-service tills wouldn't recognise the 2 for £2.50 offer on my drinks, meaning it would take longer as I had to go to the manned checkout, then I had to go through the slightly longer process of finding my card after being told they don't accept Apple Pay by an employee, only to go on to find out they did accept it and the member of staff who served me didn't know about it. This is a large, decent branch of WHSmith, staff training on payment methods, machines recognising offers and pricing needs to be worked off at paramount importance, but until then this is still a decent store and a nice branch of the chain to warrant a three-star rating.

This store in particular is very grotty and every visit to it so far has left me feeling deflated. The blue fluorescent lighting makes the shop horrible and dingy and the staff look like they are working in a prison. The store is far too big for what it is (a newsagent) and they never seem to have enough stock to justify the space. Especially upstairs. All that is up there is the post office and stationery, with a huge empty gap in the middle. I only really come here to buy snacks on the go as they have a good selection of confectionery, including American chocolates. I would have left a 1 star review but the confectionery lifts it up to 2. But as a whole, WHSmith works better in the travel industry, like in train stations and airports because their main high street stores are always eerily quiet and depressing, with the only noises being your footsteps and the occasional beeping of the self checkout.

But that was PROPER WH Smiths, down in the Castle Centre near Wilkinsons. This is a newer, one level WhSmith, which is slightly stranger to fathom. It is possibly a bit bigger than the previous one but it's NOT THE SAME. It still has all the stuff you'd want from a WH Smith, without the size or stock of a Borders.

To the rear of the store there's DVD's CD's and Games, then there's games, stationary and gifts and towards the front of the store there are newpapers and magazines and an extensive book department, which is the highlight of the shop. They also sell a range of confectionary and drinks and they now have tobacco products as well. The staff are very helpful and will search the warehouse for the item you want or order in any books etc that they don't have in stock.

The Works Factory Outlet is located in The Royal Quays Retail Outlet centre in the newly developed…read morequayside area in North Shields. I love this shop! On the whole it is a bookshop but it also sells a range or Stationery, cd's/dvd's (not recent chart ones though) gifts, cards etc at very affordable prices. I've picked up loads bargains here in the past! Everything is discounted so is always cheaper than the usual RRP. I've always found the staff there to be very pleasant and helpful. I never go to the Royal Quays without going in this shop because the stock is updated rregularly so you never know what bargains you might find! Because it is situated in a retail outlet centre it is in amongst a range of shops and there are plenty of places to eat nearby. There are hundreds of free parking spaces and it is quite easy to get to by bus or by metro (Royal Quays is about a 10min walk from Percy Main Metro Station).

All VERY close together so it is easy to find something in a different size if the shop you're in does not have one. Warehouse is quite expensive to me, although I generally quite like their tailored looks and lace this season I find £50 min for a dress quite pricey so generally shop in sales here which are quite good and they have some great reductions. Warehouse does not do shoes apart from flip flops in summer. They stock a nice range on jewellery and often reduce it all to a pound in the sakes. I've always found the staff to be very helpful and polite and always offer advice if you need it.

In Warehouse I find I can easily find well priced clothing which will suit both daily wearing and more dressy occassions. This is not one of the bigger branches of Warehouse but the choice and stock levels have always seemed good. You will also find accessories to complement you clothing purchases in the form of bags and necklaces. Student discount is also offered here.

Well, actually, it's next door but one to the post office - there's a hair dressers in between! The shop is great for those things you may have run out of, essentials like milk etc. They also sell sweets, ice lollies, magazines, newspapers, stationery etc. The shop is open into the evening, I'm not sure of the exact time, but it certainly stays open after the usual 5.30pm and it's handy for the village children to walk down on their own, especially in the summer.
